A health scare pushes overworked accountant Colin to ask former classmate and yoga instructor Shay for a lifestyle transformation. She has 90 days to overhaul Colin’s assumptions about success and happiness. As these opposites reunite, will their hot yoga sessions turn to romance?
In this warm and heartfelt novel, Colin and Shay have sizzling chemistry between them. The characters are well-developed with strong family ties.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
After a health scare, Colin turns to his former classmates Shay to help him recover.
The enemies to lovers aspect was very short lived. I would say this book has more of a grumpy/ sunshine type of trope. It also has a lot of spice.
I was not a big fan of MMC in this book.
I did not like how he pitted Shay up against Claire. It seems he felt Shay was only good enough for a "fun" time. He was quite narrow-minded in his opinion of her.
I enjoyed Shay. I like that she stayed true to herself.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking who likes the grumpy/ sunshine trope.
The 4th book in the Six Gems series. Which I didn’t know when I started reading it. I do go back and read book 1 and it set it up nicely so I just continued with 4. But will probably go back at some point to read the whole series.
It a fun light hearted faaairly spicy romance series with fun tropes and delicious men.
Shay has finally been able to start her yoga studio and is hopeful to make some renovations to add a Pilates wing. When she runs into a jerk from high school she thought was cute. But now he’s grown and he’s very cute but still a jerk. Collin had a health scare and running into Shay makes him think she can help him get his health in better shape.
I thought the book was fun and Shay and Collin were very compatible 👀 the conflict did start to wear a little thin and mainly make me reconsider if I liked Collin or not. But it works out-he just sometimes tramples on her boundaries and I didn’t love that for her. It was fun to see all the Gem gather for Wynters wedding and I hope to see more of the group together in the next one.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for an eARC.
I unfortunately did not enjoy this. I found Colin insufferable and the repetitive back and forth of their dynamic frustrating. I think enemies to lovers is hit or miss because the line between a good guy who happens to not get along with the heroine and a shitty man who happens to like the heroine is thin. I’m not interested in reading a man whose descriptions of women are mostly about their bodies or ability to contribute to his success. Every other section of his dialogue is about arousal, not even attraction or commentary on her accomplishments.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin books for this read. I enjoyed it. The book flowed so well. I haven’t read the other ones in the series but I will be going back to read them and want to read the next one coming in August because I want to see what is going on with Lyric. This book was well written and just the right amount of everything. I refuse to give anything away. Go and read this book. Thanks again!
Thanks to NetGalley for an eARC of Frenemy Fix-Up.
I wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t connect with the MMC. It didn’t seem believable to me.
I enjoyed parts of the book. This is a cute romance between a Yoga instructor and and businessman. I love the opposites attract trope and how the FMC has had a crush on the MMC when she was younger. I just wished there was more banter, the sexual tension was there just felt like something was missing. I felt like the ending was just too rushed and the MMC Collin got away with too much. I needed more groveling.
This is the 4th book in the “Six Gems Series.” This is an entertaining read with its share of a little drama, action packed, secrets, steamy romance, great characters and an old so great plot. Shay and Colin share a pass as they went to high school together and he never pay attention to her. Shay is one of the gems, divorced and she is living her dream and owns a yoga studio. Colin is a workaholic accountant and he is working so hard at his making his company go public and to achieve a promotion that he has a cardiac scare. Colin is forced into taking a medical leave. Colin propositions Shay to be his personal trainer and in return he will give her $50,000.00. Shay agrees as she wants to expand her studio and can really use the money. As things continue to progress between the two their feelings began to take center stage. The banter and frenemy thing that Colin and Shay have going on is great. As Colin is getting back on track he realizes that all the hard work he has done to take his company global and get a promotion that he deserves has been given to his colleague. I really enjoyed reading about the 4th Gem Shay and Colin. The 5th Gem featuring Lyric’s book will be released August 20th, 2024.
I am so hoping that the 6th Gem Teagan gets a book. Congratulations Yahrah St. John for writing your first book for Afterglow Books; you did an awesome job and continued success.
I received an ARC via NetGalley Harlequin - Romance, Afterglow Books by Harlequin and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Yoga? Romance? Enemies to lovers?
I was initially so excited to read this, but ultimately struggled to get through this one. I did finish it in hopes that maybe the end would redeem some of the things I struggled with, but in the end, this one just wasn't for me.
I really struggled connecting with the main characters and found the male love interest, Colin, kind of insufferable and shallow. He seemed to have a blatant disregard for boundaries and I just could not find it in me to care about him much as a character. I also found the female main character, Shay, a little hard to connect with as there wasn't much to her personality outside of her divorce. I also really struggled with the portrayal of depression in this story. While I do appreciate the representation of depression in novels, I think authors need to be extremely careful in how they do it. I think in the case of this book, this portrayal of depression was more harmful than representative.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for providing an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of this for my honest review.
This is the fourth novel in the Six Gems series, but is an interconnected standalone. Our FMC is a divorced yoga shop owner, who needs capital to expand her business. Our MMC is an accountant who has worked himself so hard he has a cardiac episode one day. The two had a reconnect moment, since they both went to highschool together, and when he decides he needs to focus on his health while on medical leave - he proposes she be his trainer and he will give him $50K. Can the sparks flying remain at bay? Or will a frenemes with benefits situation be enough?
I hadn't read any of the series before jumping into this book, and I didn't feel as though I missed anything. I love a good enemies to lovers and opposites attract trope so I was here for it. I feel like I wanted a little more from the characters and wanted to feel a deeper connection, that's all that I feel was missing for me.
Book 4 of the Six Gems Series - Can be read as a Standalone

I received a digital ARC of this book from Harlequin - Romance, Afterglow Books by Harlequin via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Who doesn’t love a good frenemies to lovers trope; right? This book follows workaholic Accountant Colin Anderson and free-spirited Yoga studio owner Shay Davis. The pair find themselves in a situationship
a decade after Shay’s unrequited high school crush on Colin.
I enjoyed the story for what it was. The book was well written with just the right amount of spice. I think the relationship was definitely one-sided as Shay sacrificed more of her time, effort and feelings whereas Colin benefited from the agreement without putting in much effort to express his true feelings. I would love to have seen more than just the physical attraction on his part.
This is part of a series but can be enjoyed on its own. Colin and Shay, who didn't run in the same crowd when they were younger, reconnect years later, and sparks fly. Initially, Shay outshines Colin, but by the end, he comes around. Overall, it's a fun, quick read with great banter and enjoyable spice. Thanks to Yahrah St. John and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I DNF'd. Colin was insufferable and shallow, and the author was not successful in convincing me to care enough to stick around long enough to see if he'd be reformed by the end.
Thank you to Afterglow Books by Harlequin for providing me with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to netgalley and Harlequin - Romance, Afterglow Books by Harlequin for allowing me to read this book. Overall the book was an okay read. The male character took a while to get into but i did overall enjoy the book.
I enjoyed this book but the male character really drove me up the wall with his arrogant stance on dating someone with a certain image. He was smitten with the lead and still gave her a hard time. This book is well written and I know every love story can not be perfect. I look forward to other stories by this author.
Frenemy fixup felt like a slow burn even though it wasn’t. I liked the couple well enough but I wasn’t really invested in them. This is one of those books that would work well as a novella. The story was predictable.
I loved the convent for this book and thought it would really capture my attention. It did but I do feel like the story was kind of slow for me so I rated it down a bit for that but I really liked the yoga aspect and the characters were well developed
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for providing a DRC of this title for review.
The Frenemy Fix-Up follows yoga instructor Shay and accountant Colin– high school enemies– who fall into a friends-with-benefits situationship as they partner up to reach their successive professional goals. I really wanted to love this one, but sadly The Frenemy Fix-Up wasn’t quite for me. I loved Shay, her friends, and her goals of building a firmer financial foundation for her yoga studio, but I don’t think Colin fully redeemed himself for me with his rushed declaration of love after spending the entire book pining after another “better” woman. The writing felt a bit stilted, and the way mental health issues, particularly depression, are handled also struck a sour note for me. For fans of the previous books in this series, they might still give this one a try, but, otherwise, this might be one to skip.
I am a big fan of opposites attract romance because it often leads to good comedy! I also really enjoy when characters who don't like each other have to work together so I thought this one was right up my alley. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me.
I did enjoy Shay's independence. I also liked seeing Colin realize what was important in his life. I think a lot of people will relate to his struggle with companies that don't allow for a work-life balance.
I enjoyed that Colin couldn't stay away from Shay even though he wanted to but I didn't fully understand their connection beyond physical attraction and enjoyable sex. I wanted to see Shay get rid of all her worries about falling in love and would have liked Colin to recognize his feelings sooner.
I also wasn't crazy about how this book handled the topic of depression. I felt a little bit like it was treated a bit like a moral failing. I think if Shay's mom had struggled with a physical illness it would have been viewed much differently. Now that might have just been Shay's perception but I would have liked that to have been made clear if that was the case. As someone who deals with depression, I wasn't a huge fan.
