Harlequin - Romance, Afterglow Books by Harlequin and NetGalley provided an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.
I didn't like the imbalance in Shay and Colin's relationship - she made many things better in his life, but he didn't do the same for her. In the end, I don't feel Colin did enough to earn her trust and love. I think the author could have trimmed a bit of the time spent on the side characters to devote more space to firmly establishing why Colin and Shay would actually be good together.
I believe this is apart of an interconnected series and I have not read the other books. It does seem you can read it as a stand alone.
I really disliked the male mc. Every time he mentioned his old fling and how she’s the perfect woman because she knows how to “behave” it pissed me off. He kept saying he shouldn’t be with Shay because of her “less than stellar background” In my opinion he was an AH.
At one point he said he didnt want to kiss and tell…after he literally finished telling his coworker him and shay ran out of condoms and proceeds to tell his coworker he’s only interested in her for sex🙄
The “love” aspect of this relationship was not believable. It was all lust and spice. Even when Colin messed up there was no true communication. no groveling, no holding him accountable. They just have sex. I was honestly hoping Shay kicked him to the curb and left him there.
Some parts got repetitive. The whole, dad left mom,mom spiraled thing was said quite a bit. I don’t think the part about mom’s bf was needed. The book isn’t long so i would have preferred to see more character development in Shay rather than her mom.
Accountant Colin Anderson is working himself into an early grave. Shay Davis is finally living her dream of owning a yoga studio. Sure, they went to high school together—but that’s where their similarities end. He’s Mr. Corporate, hustling late into the night so his firm can go public, while she flows through sun salutations and half-moon poses at her own pace. So when a health scare pushes Colin to make a few life changes, he knows where to turn. If he’s going to get right with his career, he’ll need the right woman—and to get the right woman, he has to prioritize his health. Who better than Shay to help whip his butt into shape so he can win back his high school girlfriend?
The catch is, she only has ninety days to do it. And they both really, really get on each other’s nerves. Soon, though, their sessions are heating up the studio. But as Colin gets closer to achieving his goal, he and Shay both move further away from what they thought they wanted. Before they know it, they’ll have to step out of their comfort zones and rethink their own versions of “right”…before their time is up.
I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but I enjoyed this nevertheless. Perfect amount of spicy. I was not a Colin fan at first, but he won me over by the end. 🙂 This was a fun easy read. One of the best parts of this book is the Shay's group of friends. They make a good story better! Definitely worth a read!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!
This book was a great followup to the other book in St. John's Six Gems series from the other Harlequin line. This was steamy and cute. I appreciate the representation in the book
This is the 4th book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. High school classmates that didn’t hang with the same crowd, Shay and Colin reconnect years later when Colin has a health scare and needs Shay’s help getting his health back on track. The two don’t always get along, but when they do… whoa it’s steamy haha
Love the supportive friend group and the yoga studio setting. This book was written well, and I was totally invested in the story, but I wasn’t a big fan of how Colin acted around Shay, kind of an “I’m better than you” vibe, which is why I didn’t give this book 4 stars.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for Frenemy Fix-up to come out February 20, 2024.
I'm really enjoying the 6 gems series! The frenemy fix up was a spicy frenemy turned lovers story that kept me wanting more. I really enjoyed Colin and Shays story. Yahrah St. John is creeping up on my authors I love list. This book is a must read!
I enjoyed the book very much and appreciated its representation of diversity and the opposites attract aspect, but found the supporting parts of the story over descriptive, causing it to not flow as smoothly as it could have. The author did not leave much room for the reader to construct the scene for themselves.
