No matter what books you already have on bugs, Insectorama is a great addition to make!
I loved the illustrations in this book. Suggestive of Charley Harper but with some Eric Carle influence, the images are bright, varied, and detailed without losing their appeal.
The graphic arrangement of data is very well done, mixing text with drawings and full illustrations. The vocabulary strikes a great balance between accessibility and scientific clarity.
Each individual is introduced with a nicely laid out summary page and full illustration, followed by "metamorphosis" and an observation guide. Some are enhanced with extra information; I particularly liked the Anatomy of an Anthill (p159 in this galley).
The second, shorter section exhorting readers to "Go on, take a closer look!" amplifies the book's inviting, adventurous tone. The integration of illustration continues to enhance the informational content.
I didn't love section 3, the life of instructs, quite as much-- mostly because I wanted more. It's a nice sort of appendix that could easily be the foundation for a whole volume. The "let's do our part" page of actions the reader can take "to help protect insects" is terrific: simple, actionable, non-anxiety-inducing, and age-appropriate.
This book had lots of colorful, interesting illustrations about many cool insects. I think kids will really enjoying looking through it and learning about some amazing bugs.
I love all things insects and this didn't disappoint. First, just the variety was impressive. From common to less known bugs, it gave good info. Then, it was simply but colorfully illustrated. I can't wait to see the finished product.
I LOVE this collection! The clarity and ease of understanding is wonderful and appreciated. We are huge insect fans (I even have a tattoo!), so this educational book is perfect for us. It was well organized, informative, interesting and well illustrated. Highly recommend for anyone who loves insects, or wants to learn more 🐛
