Libby loses her job and boyfriend in one day. she finds work with a mysterious man. i read it in one afternoon. cute story.,
A fun festive read. Losing her job, home and boyfriend in one day, Libby lands a temp job as personal assistant to Seth. A grumpy and sunshine read.
This book was the perfect Christmas story to enjoy by the fire! It’s funny, easy to read and just really, really good! Libby is relatable to so many of us who are still dabbling around in life to figure out exactly what it is we want. And Seth is the exact opposite of that—he’s focused and scheduled and generally disinterested in more than his business. Needless to say, all that changes when Libby starts to work for him. It’s a hilarious, unpredictable journey that was fun to be along for with them! Definitely recommend this book—and it’s a bonus if you can read it over the holidays!
Short and sweet. And sometimes, that’s all you need. This book was short (read in one day) and sweet (cute clean storyline). I did like both Seth and Libby, but I wish I connected to them a bit more.
For how short the book was, I felt there were superfluous inclusions. I wish the unnecessary details were exchanged for additional information on Seth and his background, or more about their relationship evolution.
Finally, I felt the end was rushed. Despite the lead-in with Libby’s thoughts voiced, it still felt a bit blind-siding. Then all the sudden, there was a resolution and the book had ended. Though it was a cute feel good book overall, it felt rushed and incomplete.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher Joffe Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute, quick story. A fun enemies to lovers trope. It does not give you the Christmas vibes until the last quarter of the book, but it's worth the wait.
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for the advance reader copy.
A lovely feel good festive read. I really enjoyed this and thought the characters were really well written. Highly recommended to get you in the Christmas spirit!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. This was such a treat! It's was adorable and I loved the character development. A must read for the holidays.
Libby navigates her role as a personal assistant to the enigmatic businessman Seth Coleman, who is known for his terse and demanding demeanour. When an adorable Golden Retriever puppy, Barney, enters the picture, Libby discovers a surprisingly sweet side to Seth as they work together to train the pup. However, their budding connection is tested when Libby learns that Seth's company has acquired the community centre crucial to the neighbourhood. Heartbroken by Seth's dismissive stance, Libby decides to leave, but unexpected circumstances force her to spend Christmas with him. As they find themselves stuck together, Libby takes it upon herself to infuse some holiday cheer and perhaps open Seth's heart to the magic of Christmas. The novel combines elements of romance, furry companionship, and festive spirit, offering a heartwarming holiday tale of love and second chances.
Emma Bennet has crafted a heartwarming and enchanting holiday tale in "A Christmas Truce." This novel takes you on a journey where love, laughter, and the magic of Christmas collide.

When Libby becomes the personal assistant to Seth Coleman, the tension between them becomes obvious. The dynamic between these two characters is captivating, and you eagerly anticipate each interaction. Seth's terse and demanding demeanor, at first, conceals a deeper, more complex personality that Libby gradually uncovers. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their journey from employer-employee to something more keeps you hooked from the start.
Barney, an adorable Golden Retriever puppy, is such a sweet character. Libby's efforts in helping Seth train Barney provide a charming contrast to the corporate world. The way Barney weaves his way into their lives and hearts is heart-melting.
However, the story takes an unexpected twist when Libby learns that Seth's company has acquired the community center, a place of great significance to her and her neighbors. It's here that Bennet brilliantly portrays the clash between business interests and the emotional ties that bind communities together. Libby's devotion to saving the community center will lead readers to root for her as she takes on the challenge.
Christmas serves as a backdrop for the developing romance, and Bennet does a fantastic job of infusing the magic of the season into the novel. The transformation of Seth from a stern businessman into a man with a heart is one of the most endearing aspects of the story. As they navigate the season together, you'll find yourself yearning for more Christmas magic and romance in your own life.
The title, "A Christmas Truce," is aptly chosen, as it encapsulates the central theme of the story – finding common ground and making peace, not just with others but also with oneself. Bennet's message of forgiveness and love during the holidays is touching and inspiring.
Bennet's writing style is engaging and filled with vivid descriptions. Her knack for evoking emotions and making you feel like you're part of the story is evident throughout.

After reading this book, I had mixed emotions. I felt I would have enjoyed more of Libby and Seth’s backstory earlier.
Libby is a temporary office worker and she seems lost for what she wants to do with her life. She resents any suggestions from family, friends and her boyfriend to pursue more stable professions. We never understood what is the root of her aimless career aspirations. She grows angry whenever it’s mentioned but only says she is tired of being nagged about it. The book never explores why she doesn’t want to pursue photography as a profession even though she loves it and studied it in school. She shows great skill as well.
When she interviews for the girl Friday position, Seth asks her some unusual questions but we never find out why. It’s never brought up. Then Seth is virtually absent for a quarter of the story while Libby is adjusting to the position. It makes it hard to “know” him.
I wanted to feel more of the tension of attraction and think this book would have benefited from a dual perspective from the characters. I also would have loved a little more spice in their hook up to “feel” their connection.
Overall, I enjoyed their story but felt that they could have added more to the story to help us understand their backstory.
Really enjoyed this fun and fast paced enemies to lovers story about Libby who takes a job as a personal assistant to millionaire CEO Seth Coleman, he's so demanding that she keeps messing up!
There is also a very cute golden retriever who's called Barney who was the star of the show for me. Loved the whole story and would really recommend if you are looking for a lovely festive story!.
I was impressed with how Seth’s and Libby’s characters were brought to life in the story. The author did an excellent job crafting their personalities and making them feel genuine. In particular, I found Libby incredibly relatable, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the story.
On the other hand, Seth’s character was a fascinating contrast to Libby’s. He strongly preferred structure and predictability, which made him a foil to Libby’s more chaotic nature. This dynamic created an exciting tension between the two characters and kept me engrossed in their interactions.
However, everything changed when Libby landed the Seth’s girl Friday position. These unexpected events added a new layer of excitement to the story. It was fascinating to see how Libby’s life and relationship with Seth evolved.
Overall, this was an enjoyable enemies-to-lovers story. It’s a quick and enjoyable read that will make you feel joyful and festive. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this type of trope.
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for allowing me to read and review this book.
I had a fantastic time reading this book. It was a quick and enjoyable read that had me chuckling and feeling all warm inside. The story of Libby, the whirlwind of energy, and Seth, the stoic businessman, is a delightful journey.
Libby’s character development, from someone who can’t hold down a job to a strong-willed individual, is both relatable and inspiring. Seth’s transformation from a prideful man to someone who learns to prioritize what truly matters is heartwarming.
The book strikes a great balance between humor and sweetness, making it an all-around fun read. The quirky yet endearing relationship that blossoms between the sunny Libby and the grumpy Seth is simply charming. If you’re looking for a light and heartwarming love story, this book is a great choice.

Another sweet enemies to lovers trope that I absolutely devoured and flew through! A very simple, easy read that gives you a bit of a festive buzz and some heartwarming moments.
I was able to picture Barney in my mind and, as an animal lover, I feel that made me even nore invested in the story as a whole and the outcome of the 2 main characters!
I would recommend this book to fans of romance, the enemies to lovers trope and for a short, easy read.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
The day is going badly for Libby, not only does she lose her job, but on reaching home, she finds her boyfriend in bed with someone else.
So now, she has no job and nowhere to live. She accepts a position as a live in girl friday, for Seth, a a millionaire, who likes things in their place and Libby is not known for keeping things tidy.
Will the two be able to live and work together?
I recommend this book.
This was so cute. I love a good Christmas book with a sweet rom-com feel! Very much like a Hallmark movie!!
Honestly, I hated it. The title made no sense until the very end, and there's not even a lot of Christmasy vibes in it. I think the concept was good, but it wasn't written well. Also, it was written in the third person, which I didn't care for at all. I didn't feel like I connected with the characters. I wish it had been dual poverty instead of just Libby. I feel like hearing Seth's side would have made it better.
Thank you, NetGalley for providing an advanced copy to read and enjoy!
This was a very enjoyable and cozy, feel-good romance story. A little cliché if you ask me, but I still really enjoyed reading the storyline.
Seth's and Libby's characters were well written. Libby was honestly pretty relatable, which kept me entertained. Seth likes everything structured and predictable. Libby is a little chaotic, and not sure what she wants to do in life as she jumps from temp job to temp job. That is, until she lands a job as Seth's girl Friday (I had to google what that was because I am not familiar with alot of British terminology. I'm in the US).
If you enjoy slightly predictable, but feel-good Christmas stories, then you'll enjoy this book. It's also a shorter book, so it can be read pretty quickly.
This was a precursor to christmas that felt like a big Christmas present.
Lobby is having a bad day, she loses her temp job and goes home to find her boyfriend in bed with another woman.
Homeless and jobless she takes a job as a live in girl friday for a millionaire. He is well known for being very particular, how is a free spirit like Libby going to rub along with a perfectionist.
I loved this book and the characters, you see where the story is going but the journey is well worth the ffort.
This was such a beautiful and enjoyable read. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
