The Coven by Harper L. Woods pulls you into a shadowy world of enchantment, hidden truths, and dangerously tempting connections. The immersive setting and unforgettable characters keep the tension high and the pages turning. A perfect escape for readers who crave fantasy laced with allure and mystery.

Non-Spoiler Review Of The Coven.
Willow is a witch who has been waiting and planning to come into her full witching powers, to do this she has to apprehend the bones of her long-gone ancestors. Willows mother has recently passed away and she’s taken in by the headmaster of Hollows Grove University.
Hallows Grove is hiding something, and that something is attacking the students.
Along with the secrets and mystery there is also romance. Be warned this is a dark romance / dark romantasy / paranormal romance, trigger warnings are available. I do recommend checking trigger warnings for anyone new to these genres.
If you enjoy shows like supernatural with more “witchy vibes” I think this will be a great book for you.
Gray has a lot of Dean Winchester, but more possessive vibes and I’m here for all of that.
Spice level is about a 2/5 – at least on my personal scale.
The Coven hits the action quickly, not a whole lot of “fluff”. These characters will take you by surprise as the twists keep coming. This is part one of the series, and the ending leaves you wanting to pick up book two immediately.
The writing style itself is great, and I will be reading more books by Harper L Woods.
-Additional note: The book itself is bloody beautiful! The cover is gorgeous, and the sprayed edges are wonderful.
Thank you NetGalley and Bramble for the copy for my honest review.

This book was just OK. Honestly, it kind of just throws you in with zero world building and leaves you kind of confused. I think if there was a prequel to give some prior knowledge I would have enjoyed this more, but as of right now I'm not inclined to pick up the second book.

This was not for me. I think there are people out there who will enjoy this series, but I just couldn't get into it.

First of all, I have been sleeping on Harper L Woods and I am wholly ashamed of myself. I have discovered an auto buy author because, friends, this book was EVERYTHING. Like all the things. ALL OF THEM, MKAY?!
There is nothing more I love than a fierce, kick-ass FMC. Well, actually, there is, and it's a morally gray hero...or anti hero...if you will. And OMG when I tell you that I devoured this book.
Willow is a witch who has been hiding from the world of The Coven and brutally prepared for her destiny. The last thing she wants is to follow the man who arrives at her door, but when her little brother's life is in danger, she's determined to protect him. Even if it means making a deal with the devil. Willow finds herself in Crystal Hollow and the prestigious Hollow’s Grove University, a world of witches and secrets. And the bane of her existence is the grumpy headmaster who dragged her there. And the tension and chemistry between these two? OMG it was on another level.
If you love an enemies to lovers vibe, this had it in spades. Deliciously so. With a splash of forbidden. But Willow is not just at the university to learn of her destiny. She has secrets, dark ones, and an agenda that can get her killed. The story was a delicious thrill ride of twists and turns. Secrets and betrayals. I devoured it in one nail biting sitting and immediately jumped into book two. This world owns me wholly and entirely and I am so obsessed. I cannot recommend it enough for any of my fellow dark romantasy readers out there.

Not a ton of build up or tension. It was a very fast paced story with good banter. I wish there had been a bit more plot earlier on, but I understand this was more relationship focused.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Holy Cow - The Coven by Harper Woods was way darker than I thought it was going to be! I love a good witches and vampire-ish romance but I had very mixed feelings on this book. I loved that the author included a break down of the different witch houses before the book started. I also enjoyed the dark mystery aspect to the book. However, I was not a fan of the almost abusive like relationship between Willow and Gray. This book does leave off on a cliff hanger which will be a perfect set up for the second book.

This book is a whole vibe. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was fresh and interesting. And I really liked the character development

“The Coven” by Harper L. Woods is a deliciously dark tale brimming with magic, secrets, and forbidden desires. The world-building is rich, the characters sharp and compelling, making it impossible to put down. Perfect for those who love their fantasy with a seductive edge.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.

I enjoyed this! I loved how creepy this felt (perfect for a spooky season read) and was swooning over the headmaster/ (adult) student vibes! AND SCREAMING AT THAT ENDING!
I can't wait to read book two this coming spooky season!

I really wanted to love this book, but it just fell short. I am looking forward to reading The Cursed, hopefully it will be redeemable.

I really enjoyed the premise of this story!! I found it really fascinating and overall it has very good bones!! I do believe the characters need some more fleshing out and details of the world could use some work but for a debut I really enjoyed it!!

Calling this a 3.5
Cheesy and pretty cringe at times, but ended up being a fun read with friends.

An interesting take on religious themes with definite Lucifer the tv show vibes. I liked the banter and the relationships, but it might have been better if it wasn't set at a school. This didn't really add to the plot, especially since we never really see the students learning anything. Overall I liked it.

I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and were not affected by the free copy.
I wanted to love this, the premise was super interesting, but it just kind of fell flat for me. For the most part, I really, really like Willow. She's been through hell, she's snarky and sarcastic, and she cares about the well-being of magic. But outside of that, I wish that everything had been better developed. I still feel like I'm missing key points of world building, the lore, and it read kind of young, while still being for adults.
I already read book 2, but I'll probably continue the series, if it does.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!! The premise of it sounded very intriguing and boy was I not disappointed, If anything, i was pleasantly surprised that it was better than I anticipated!! The story was so unique and the magic system was perfection! This was the perfect book to read during spooky season!

I really wish all the content/trigger warnings had been included in the description. I would not have requested this book had I know how many traumatic experiences I would have been able to escape reliving if this simple courtesy had been afforded to those of us on NetGalley who wish to avoid unnecessary triggers.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for providing me with a digital copy to review.

If you love a morally grey MMC, this is for you. I mean his name is even Gray (well one of his names). She’s a witch, and a powerful one, and he’s a demon vampire thing they call a Vessel. She’s the last of her line, but her secret is that she’s actually the last of two lines, one of which can unmake Vessels.
It’s a steamy read, and they both do bad things. He has no empathy really, except when it comes to her, and even that is limited. But it’s expected, as he can’t feel much in his Vessel form. There is a lot at stake for her, and she cares deeply for the earth (the source of her power), her brother who is in hiding, and begrudgingly, Gray. I really loved the world built, as it’s our world but with these magic families; all the lore behind it and the mystery of the deaths happening in the school and how it links to what happened in the past.
I’m moving on to book two now and can’t wait to dive in!
Thank you Bramble for this gorgeous copy

Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read "The Coven." This is a great recommendation for fans of the "Discovery of Witches," series. I do wish that there is was more development in the relationships between the main character and the other students. It was mainly, just three characters that interacted with one another. Overall, I thought is was a good story for those who love witches, vampires and demons. I also admire the fact that Woods let villains be villains. Too many stories have the villains always turn out to be heroes. Well, done can't wait for the second book.
