This was my first book from Portia and I really did like it! I enjoyed Lara and Sonny’s characters and their relationship. There were a lot of fun moments in this book and this is obviously an enemies to lovers story. I look forward to try more books out by this author.

I really liked this enemies to lovers, formed proximity workplace, 2nd chance romance.

Two rival journalists are being sent undercover to get some info about a famous couple who are staying at an exclusive, secretive resort.

Sonny is an arrogant, sure of himself journalist who will not stop at anything to get the best of the best kind of deal for himself.

He even trows Lara under the bus whenever that is possible.

They have to work together to get what they want.

This was a fun and light hearted read.

I need to start with the title of this book. After so many imaginative and punny titles from Portia, this one really fell flat for me. It didn't have any of the charm or imagination of Portia's previous book titles, and it was sadly a sign of what was to come on the inside, too.

I didn't enjoy reading about Lara and Sonny. Their relationship lacked chemistry, Lara was incredibly judgemental about the most basic things, and there was absolutely no tension in their "enemies to lovers" relationship.

This didn't work for me.

An easy and light read. It took me some time to get into this book, but once I did, I enjoyed reading this. This isn't my first book by this author.

This was a quick read and the Lara & Sonny were good characters however the overall plot was good I just found it it be very swift on the delivery of it all. I guess it all felt rushed?

Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for the copy.

This was an OK read. Not as good as her others and I got bored with it and did not finish it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This one's going to be short. The premise of this story was pretty intriguing, but somehow it just wasn't my cup of tea. I DNF'd at ~50%. But, as the writing style is one that I enjoyed, I will give this another shot when I'm in a different mindset.

Although there were fun moments in this book, I didn't buy the romance and the tension was almost non-existent... arguably the most vital part of enemies to lovers.

What made me mark this book at a 2 stars, is that Portia has a really good writing style, but this book fell short. Lots of potential.

Portia has a way with words and is an amazing wordsmith. Her books are always joyous and fun and this was no exception. I really enjoyed it.

A surprising and fun read

When Lara is forced to pretend to be a millionnaire to infiltrate a celebrity couples retreat and find gossip to write about, she is not happy. But when her boss tells her that she is going with her sworn enemy and rival, Sonny, and will have to pretend to be her girlfriend, things are even worse. The tropical island they end up on is far from paradise, but they will have no choice but to work together if they want to be convincing, uncover the truth, and keep their jobs.

The premise of the book really drew me in and I was excited to start reading this book. However, the first few chapters made me dislike both characters, as I found them a bit childish and petty over nothing, which was annoying. I was surprised and happy to discover a new and more likeable side to them around the middle of the story and the tension that built between them made me excited to keep reading. The story got better and better with the characters' growth and I found the setting of the retreat really well constructed and intriguing. It was funny, light and exciting, and intense, and I liked how things turned out, even if we kind of expected it. Sonny and Lara turned out to be cute together and I liked that they dealt with their differences like adults (I was scared they would behave like children until the end at first). Anyway, a nice read!

I recommend if you like workplace enemies to lovers romcoms and aren't afraid of slightly annoying main characters.

"Perhaps we really are meant to be together after all."

TW: misogyny, assault, violence, cheating (mention)

A 4 ⭐️ read IMO. This was a fun and funny romance.

Lars and Sonny hate each other. They work as entertainment reporters for rival sister publications so they constantly are vying for the same scoop. After they get into a tiff which involves a celebrity, they are told that they have to pose as a couple and participate in an ultra secretive and exclusive couples therapy which is hosted at a resort and cover their experience or they’ll both lose their jobs.

This is a cute book, which I enjoyed.

Thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my opinions.

I’m such a fan of Portia MacIntosh’s writing, so when I saw that the title of her most recent release was also my favourite trope I knew I had to read it!

If Couples Retreat, The Hating Game and White Lotus had a love child it would be Enemies to Lovers.

Overall, this was a great read. All my favourite elements of Portia’s writing were here - great banter between MCs, a quirky cast of supporting characters and a beautiful setting.

You could feel the chemistry between Lara and Sonny. And their need one one up each other had me laughing out loud several times while reading. (The all pink suitcase = brilliant!)

That said, I think Enemies to Lovers could have benefitted from a dual POV, there were so many instances I wanted to know what Sonny was thinking!

While this was a slow burning, closed door romance, if second chance romance is your favourite trope then Enemies to Lovers is for you!

Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Portia MacIntosh for an advance copy, These are my honest thoughts.

Fairly predictable rom com but it was still a good read that I enjoyed it. It was also a quick read.

I had to think on this one. It was entertaining to read but entirely unbelievable. I say that in the most positive way of being “unreal”. A lot of people will tear apart a book because it’s unreal, but I don’t always think it’s fair. Isn’t the goal to be entertained?

I could picture many of the events in my mind, and I feel like it was a story made to point out a life lesson, but, other than that, I wouldn’t say that there was a “deep message” to learn from.

A special thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Boldwood Books for providing a copy of this book without charge for providing an unbiased review.

Enjoy!

Enemies to lovers was a stunning debut but fell subpar at some parts. The writing style worked really well with me which may lead to me picking more of this authors work.

The romance was also really great did all the tropes justice but for me the characters didn't quite work, I couldn't connect to them.

I wish the title had been different as enemies to lovers is the trope and I would have preferred something else. I genuinely enjoy Portia MacIntosh's writing as they tend to be cute and funny but I felt that this book was a bit bland compare to her others. I would still recommend it as a one time read as there are funny and cute moments however I do feel she has other better books. I wish the romance was not so rushed and it felt more natural. I think the premise of the plot is really interesting and wish it played more into it. I thought that our MCs would actually fall in love through the therapy sessions and realising why they really are suited even tho they hate each other. Because if you think about it the MCs are perfect for a couples therapy retreat.

Overall its a quick easy read but just felt a little bland in comparison to her other works.

Funny, spicy and sweet!

This hilarious holiday rom com features to journalists who despise each other... However they're forced to work together in an assignment at an exclusive resort for couples.

Watching them navigate this and their relationship with each other was hilarious and I couldn't stop reading!

Portia MacIntosh is back with Enemies to Lovers, a deliciously trope-tastic romantic comedy that will make readers roar with laughter.

Lara and Sonny are two showbiz journalists whose rivalry is far from friendly. Sworn enemies who are always trying to out scoop one another with the latest celebrity gossip, Lara and Sonny want to be the best in their field and they are not averse to doing everything they can to destroy one another in order to come out on top. Being in each other’s company for more than five seconds is enough to have the two of them butting heads so when their bosses ask them to work together, it is their idea of hell. Worse, their assignment will see them having to go undercover at an exclusive retreat and pretend to be in couples therapy!

Most people would jump at the chance to spend a week on a tropical island, but most people aren’t Sonny and Lara. Being trapped with your sworn enemy and pretending to be a couple might just end up pushing the two of them over the edge – until they actually start working together and realize that they might have a lot more in common than they initially thought…

Back home, Lara and Sonny no longer need to pretend to be a couple, so why do they show no sign of wanting to drop the act? Could these sworn enemies have actually fallen for one another? And is the biggest surprise of all going to be that Lara and Sonny are crazy in love with each other?

Portia MacIntosh never disappoints and Enemies to Lovers is a fun, flirty and fabulous romantic comedy where the pages are just going to turn themselves. Sexy, hilarious and so enjoyable readers will find it a struggle to put down, Enemies to Lovers is another must-read by Portia MacIntosh.

*Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date: January 4, 2024

While this was written well, I struggled to get into the story. They’re more rivals to lovers instead of enemies, so right off the bat I was confused. It followed typical/predictable tropes but the chemistry of our MCs just wasn’t there for me.
