A very enjoyable account of the authors role as a Canadian Officer in the British Army during World War Two.
The book covers the authors wartime experience from leaving Canada until the end of the war.
I really enjoyed this book which gives a great insight into one man's wartime experience, saving many lives of other service men and women behind enemy lines.
Very well written, very precise in its manner, an enjoyable read and highly recommended to all those with an interest in war.
The story of the ill-fated ‘Operation Market Garden’ has been well-covered in books and films, but this book attempts to set out a first person account of one who was there. All the well known features and incidents are covered, and the author does seem to have met a surprising number of the key players. The tragic ending to the battle is featured from the point of view of a soldier who becomes a prisoner of war, and who then gives an account of the experiences endured at the hands of the Germans.
A well written look at the ill-fated mission to take Arnhem and end the war, as told by a Canadian Officer involved in the action. The story is full of action and suspense as well as heartbreaking descriptions of how the troops suffered. An extremely good read, that I recommend!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
