Late to this but wanted to read before Long Island - and it didn't disappoint. Feels like a snapshot of the characters that carries you along and then gently lets you go. Loved it!

I really enjoyed this.
Ellis leaves Ireland for Brooklyn in the 1950s to pursue the hope of a better life.
Alone, in a foreign land and far from family she secures accommodation, a job and further education. A tragic event sends her back to Ireland and the sliding door moment makes this story so readable. Will she? Won’t she? Should she?
I will definitely read the follow-up.
