Ellie Black is a handful. Strong willed and determined to do her own thing, she has little regard for the rules. Despite just finishing a suspension from high school and being grounded by her parents, Ellie organises a drinks party at a motel to raise funds for a new phone. Probably the last time she breaks the rules for a while!
Detective Calhoun has a mission in life. After the disappearance and death of her sister Lydia when they were teenagers, which she feels she could have prevented, Chelsey is driven to make sure she doesn’t make mistakes again.
A good story, very well written. Exciting and tense. A great read, with an unexpected ending.
Will definitely look out for more by this author.
A good 4* recommendation.
Thank you NetGalley.
This is a difficult story to review without giving things away and I hate spoilers!
Almost two decades ago, Chelsey Calhoun's sister disappeared. Since then, Chelsey's life has been shaped as much as it has been haunted by that single event.
Because there is always a next girl, who is going to disappear, never to be found again. And Chelsea is driven to find those girls, and discover what happened to them, so that she can someday find out what happened to her sister. Because unsuprisingly, she longs for closure.
But then, to everyone's amazement, a young girl named Ellie Black is miraculously found 2 years after she initially disappeared. But where has the teenager been all this time? And what has she been through? Because it is clear that the experience has marked her irrevocably.
This is a compelling story, and Chelsey is an interesting MC. One whom many readers may find relatable, despite - or perhaps because of - what drives her. There is also an interesting story arc featuring interracial adoption. This book is well worth checking out if you are looking for an absorbing story with some unexpected elements to it.
This book was very exciting and suspenseful. It kept me drawn into the mystery and backgrounds if the characters. I'd definitely read more by Emiko in the future.
Really love Emiko Jeans books. So excited to read a different genre from her! Can’t wait to share my full thoughts and review, but I love her writing style and I know our readers do 2!
