Man, this was a good one. Super quick read but really engaging. I loved the Southwest backdrop, the setting of the apartments, and everything else about this thriller. Definitely recommend picking this one up asap.
Cass's life hasn't turned out how she expected; far from it, in fact. Reeling from a blindsiding breakup and forced to find the first work she comes across, she winds up the handy ma'am (you read that right) at a worn-down apartment complex called the Sycamores. On a good day at the Sycamores, Cass can almost breathe again; nobody knows her, her story, or her side hustle of blackmailing unsuspecting men. They had it coming, after all.
Meanwhile, Anna is grappling with the unexpected loss of her husband Henry. His final days are clouded with mystery, and as self-proclaimed resident artist of the Sycamores--of all places--Anna's started to wonder if she knew her husband at all. The final, teary voicemail he left her alluding to a terrible act he committed suggests she didn't. When Anna packs up her life and turns to Henry's abandoned unit at the Sycamores for answers, she stumbles upon more questions than answers.
And that's just the start of this story.
"The Vacancy in Room 10" is the latest from Seraphina Nova Glass, one of the indisputable greats of domestic suspense. I've fallen in love with Glass's recent novels for their character development and surprisingly-complex plot twists. While I had high hopes for her latest, I found this a bit drawn-out despite its binge-worthy length. Glass undeniably nailed her setting here as always, but this cast of characters felt too broad and disconnected even by the end. This, like her others, packs a surprising twist with decent execution, but the overall wow factor that I found in "On a Quiet Street" especially was nowhere to be seen here.
The Vacancy in Room 10 follows the lives of two women, Anna and Cass, who are going through separate major life changes that have brought them both to the Sycamores, where their paths cross in explosive and destructive ways.
This was a fun, quick read. The characters and relationships were interesting and original and their stories were both relatable and wild at times. My only real critique is that both women were similar, Anna and Cass, so I struggled to keep them straight, especially in the first half.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to more from the author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Grayson House for the opportunity to read this ARC before its intended release of April 9, 2024.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin books for this opportunity! I have loved every book I’ve read by this author and this one is know different. What an amazing read! I personally prefer books where they flip back and forth between characters as it makes the anticipation higher the closer you get to a reveal. And that’s just what Vacancy in Room 10 includes. This thriller will pull you in right from the beginning
Beware of a woman scorned!
Opening this book to read has coincided with the news that Seraphina Nova Glass’ previous thriller, On A Quiet Street, has been optioned for a limited TV series. How exciting! If you haven’t read one of her novels, what’s keeping you!?
Nova Glass writes spectacular suspense, sweeping readers away in nail-biting drama fueled by mystery, and secrets and propelled by her twisty, unique plotlines showcasing fantastic characters. Her ability to balance humour and suspense is noteworthy.
This is one of those books where giving too much away would ruin it for you. These are the hardest types of reviews for me to write! All I’ll say is when Cass and Anna’s lives intersect at the dilapidated Sycamore apartment complex, it turns into a completely engrossing read.
It explores
✔️ how trauma can either unite strangers or turn them against each other as they clamber to tell their own story.
✔️secrets. If you have a secret, don’t let Superintendent Cass know anything about it. She doesn’t let secrets stay buried…and it almost causes her downfall.
✔️how appearances can be deceiving
✔️found family
That’s it. Go into it blind. Learn to love the eclectic characters who inhabit this authentic setting.
I can’t wait for the next SNG novel!
I was gifted this copy by Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Thank you to Net Galley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this amazing opportunity!
Cass is turning tricks for a buck but not the tricks you might be thinking. Will this get her caught up in more drama than she could ever imagine?!
Anna is desperate to find out why Henry commits suicide but does she really want to know the truth?! She discovers a hidden secret of Henry’s and will do anything to get the truth.
Monica (Anna’s best friend) has spoken to Henry only weeks prior, could she be a suspect that Anna should question?!
The twists and turns of this book will have you flipping pages faster than you can handle.
It was amazing and had my heart racing! The ending sets a great example of what to value in life. A+++
So many relatable, different characters that will drag you in! Thanks to NetGalley and the author for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review!!
I must say that as thrillers go, this one is done very well! This is my first read by this author and I'm excited to read more.
The book starts off really strong with a death and a confession and the mystery unfolds from there. I really enjoyed the characters, especially the comedic relief of the gals by the pool. I think the author does a wonderful job of intertwining the characters while also giving them their own story.
There are a few bits that I did find a little too unbelievable but I am willing to look aside for those.
I also want to mention that one of the tenants has cats with the best names! Love that.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and Seraphina Nova Glass for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The story was interesting but I kept getting the characters confused. Took a while to get into it. Goes back and forth between characters. I found it a little slow.
After finding her boyfriend cheating Cass has to move out of the home they share together, and takes a job at a run down apartment complex.
Anna moves into the apartment complex after her husband dies under mysterious circumstances.
Cass and Anna are both working on finding out what really happened at the apartment complex.
I don’t get it. Did I read the same book as everyone else??
The sarcastic/dry humor was about the only thing that worked for me, but even that wasn’t enough to get me invested in this story. 🤷🏼♀️ I couldn’t stand these characters and Cass was downright awful.
Thank you to NetGalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House for the opportunity to read and review.
*Also, I know this is an ARC and some errors are to be expected, but this was in 𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ shape. 😬
This was a very exciting thriller from Seraphina Nova Glass with relatable, realistic characters that brought it all together perfectly.
The storyline was so very different from probably all the thrillers I’ve read recently. The characters were well developed and had very different backgrounds. Anna and Cass are both women that had “picture perfect” lives that came crashing down in different ways. They soon found themselves living in a rundown hotel turned apartment. Cass was dumped and ditched by her rich boyfriend. Anna lost her husband and was trying to uncover his deepest secrets. This book has a huge range of realistic characters, and the pool moms were probably my favorite. I feel like anyone that had ever lived at any apartment had their own set of pool moms and the author really nailed it with them.
The twists and turns were well executed!
This book was a great way to start off the 2024 year and I can’t wait to read more from Seraphina Nova Glass.
Didn’t think I’d be able to get into the book at first. But after i read several
Chapters i couldn’t put it down ! Such a quick read!
The Vacancy In Room 10
The Vacancy In Room 10 by Seraphina Nova Glass is from the point of view of two women. Anna is a widow grieving the supposed suicide of her husband Henry. Henry claimed that he killed someone. Though the suicide was ruled out when his body washed up on the Rio Grande & police told her, he was already dead when they found his body. Anna must put the pieces together to find out what happened and why someone would want Henry dead. Cassidy has been running the Sycamores, after being kicked out by her wealthy cheating long term boyfriend. Cass barely makes it as a superintendent and ends up blackmailing sleazy men threatening to expose their infidelity to their wives if they don’t pay up. Blackmailing is easy and no one gets hurt until the wrong one does get hurt. Both situations force Anna & Cass in each other’s presence questioning if they can trust each other.
Writing, Characters, Setting & Twists
I was very grateful that Seraphina Nova Glass sent me a Netgalley copy of The Vacancy In Room 10, & I felt it was even better than her previous book The Vanishing Hour. I like Anna & Cass as main characters and some of the side characters were hilarious too. I can picture the story as I read as though I were watching a movie or miniseries in my head. I like that the setting was out west. The mystery as to who killed Henry and why and how it connected to some of the other deaths in the novel were tied together nicely. It was very exciting! I also appreciated that Seraphina had both Anna & Cass tell their stories from both points of view.
Overall
If you are a fan of mystery novels and a fan of Seraphina Nova Glass, I recommend The Vacancy In Room 10. If you don’t have a Netgalley or physical copy, preorder the book coming out on April 9th. I am very excited about doing this Behind The Book on The Vacancy In Room 10 with Seraphina Nova Glass.

You guys, I went in blind and this book had me HOOKED from the very beginning!! I literally could not put this thing down! This was my first Seraphina Nova Glass book and I've already lined my kindle with 3 more.
The book alternates between two POVs. Two women, brought together in a run down motel turned apartment complex. The story was absolutely crazy, completely addicting and my jaw hit the floor multiple times. This is easily going to be one of my favorite Thrillers of the year and it's only January! The book comes out in April and it absolutely NEEDS to be on your tbr. Go preorder now, you will not be disappointed!
Thank you to NetGalley, Seraphina Nova Glass and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an ARC!
The Vacancy in Room 10 by Seraphina Nova Glass kept me guessing! The characters were both interesting and enigmatic. This story is told from the alternating points of view of Cass and Anna, 2 very different women whose lives converge in a twisted circumstance of loss and upheaval and they both, for different reasons, find themselves living at a dumpy apartment complex. I found myself visualizing the characters and the setting as a read. I’d love to see this made into a show. This thriller has a unique storyline. The unraveling of the mystery surprised me!
At first, I thought the writing was slightly amateurish. It took me a bit to get into the story. Once I did, I understood the diction and characterization. I thought this was an easy read, and I really enjoyed it. Even though a few characters felt a little silly to me, I enjoyed the world Glass built. I would read a sequel! Cass needs her HEA!
The Vacancy in Room 10 follows an odd cast of characters living in a sketchy, run-down, apartment complex. As secrets are revealed, their lives unravel, and they must come together to stop a murderer from killing another tenant.
Fast-paced and unputdownable, Seraphina Nova Glass knows how to draw you in and keep you guessing. This is the first of this authors books that I had read, and she now a must-read author for me.
The Vacancy in Room 10 exceeded all my expectations! I loved everything about it, the pacing, the character development, the dual timelines, and the fantastic storyline. I really enjoyed trying to solve the mystery behind Harry’s death along with Anna. I had so many theories going through my head and every single one was wrong. I loved Cass’s character! Her struggles are real and believable.
I cannot recommend THE VACANCY IN ROOM 10 enough and I have no doubt it will be flying off the shelves next April. Pre-order your copy now!
Thank you @seraphinanovaglass and @graydonhousebooks for my e-ARC.
After her husband leaves her for another woman, Cass finds herself alone, poor, and working as a Handy-woman at The Sycamores, a run down apartment complex with an interesting cast of tenants.
After her husband's death, Anna also finds herself at the Sycamores, where her husband was staying before his death, trying to find answers.
How will these two women's stories connect? And what secrets are each of them hiding?
I had a hard time putting this one down! My second read from this author and another fantastic domestic suspense read. This went every which way and kept me guessing throughout how it would end. The characters were well written and so much fun, some loveable, some love-to-hate. The setting of the apartment complex was perfect. The plot was the perfect amount of suspenseful and not slow-moving with some fun scenes and side-plots thrown in. There was a lot going on and it was woven together so well! Highly recommended!
4.25/5 ⭐
Holy heck!! Talk about whip lash! This book has so many fun twists and turns. I liked the dual POVs and the friendships that were built. The setting was different and I enjoyed all the characters at the motel. I didn’t see the twist coming at all!!! It did take me a bit to get into so only reason not 5 stars.
