This was my first novel by this author, but I definitely have plans to read more from her. I enjoyed the two viewpoints and how they converged together at the end. At the beginning both narrators were somewhat unlikeable, but by the end you definitely understood where they were coming from.
What a ride! I’m not sure if I loved the thrill and mystery of this one or if I was just incredibly invested in the characters. Their dynamic and the setting was so fun, I couldn’t get enough. No spoilers, but I’m happy with where everyone ended up
This book kept my attention all the way through. Relatable characters and a great storyline. A very good thriller that will keep you guessing. I would recommend this book!
A great setting for a book: a run-down motel turned into apartments. The residents gather around the pool to chat, bicker, gossip.
We follow two women who live there. There are some deaths. Whodunnit?
As the book draws to the end, action, Action and even more ACTION. My head was spinning.
Thanks to Netgalley for permitting me to read this.
This book starts out with a bang, capturing my attention immediately. Anna gets a call from her husband where he confesses to killing someone, only to be found dead himself. The police chalk it up to a suicide but Anna feels like something else happened. You see, her and her husband had a complicated relationship. She moves into the apartment he rented for his art studio. This is where the book shines. There is a crazy cast of characters living in the apartment that are like a family. Anna is slowly putting together her husband’s “apartment personality” by talking to everyone in the building. The more she talks to people, the more she feels like there is a mystery to be solved!
Honestly, the writing in this book was amazing, the descriptive detail immersed me right by the pool girls! The characters were AMAZING and incredibly likable. Anna, is ambitious and smart! Cass is quirky and fun, I loved the addition of her complete side story. The pool girls were the best. It adds such a great element to the book. I felt as though I was getting to know them all with Anna! This is a Thriller that I highly recommend you pick up. You will not be disappointed!
Thank you to NetGalley, Grayson House, Thriller Book Lovers Promotions and Seraphina Nova Glass for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. My opinions are honest and my own!
Anna’s husband calls her and confesses to killing someone, and then his body is found washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande. Anna decides to piece together what really happened and moves into his studio apartment that he used for his art. She spends her days getting close to her neighbors and absorbing gossip. When threatening letters start appearing at her door, she must decide if finding the truth is more important than her safety.
Cass has been running the Sycamores, a run-down apartment complex, for a while. Barely scraping by, she starts blackmailing sleazy men to get by. It works, until she defrauds the wrong guy. With everything to lose and no one to trust, Cass must fight to keep her secrets under wraps, especially with Anna snooping around.
I have very conflicting thoughts about this book. I struggled getting into this one and I found the majority of the book to be incredibly slow. I usually finish most books in one sitting, but I really had no desire to do so with this one and found it easy to put down and predictable.
However, despite being slow this book did have some positive points. It was incredibly descriptive, and I felt like I was right there with the characters in these shabby, run-down converted apartments. The atmospheric writing is why I kept reading as it was really the best part.
If you are looking for a suspenseful light read, then check this one out.
I would read more by this author as she really does know how to make you feel like you are there experiencing the story with the characters.
Thank you so much to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This was off to a really great start for me. I believe this was my first time reading anything by this author. I loved the start of the book, as well as the middle. The ending was good, but didn’t live up to all my expectations.
Overall, I liked how it all came together, I found the side characters (the pool girls) to add some dry humor and fun) to the book. This one has me wanting to read more of Seraphina in the future. I really liked her style of writing and I’m curious to see what is on her backlist. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was my first read by Seraphina and it did not disappoint! It captivates you from the start when you read about Cass blackmailing men. The dual POVs kept things suspenseful throughout the book as you uncovered what’s really going on at the motel. There are a lot of characters but I found them extremely likable. One in particular stands out as the MVP of the book, for me at least. Overall, very good read and I recommend adding it to your list of new releases coming next year!
I really enjoyed this book! Seraphina is already an auto buy author for me, I really love her books.
This is fast paced, with intriguing characters, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Very suspenseful, really kept me invested and I couldn’t put it down. I always had to know more!
I loved the characters, they are fun and intense, and they also show how love and caring for people can change things.
I highly recommend!
Thank you @netgalley @htpbooks for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Out 04/09/2024.
Let me start off by saying I love everything that Saraphina writes and have given her past books all 5 stars. This one started off slow for me and I found myself confused between the 2 main characters and I’m not sure why. Once it got going, I could not put it down. I loved the hotel setting and I loved how the crimes took place. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release. To be published April 2024.
Thank you Net Galley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC! This was a wild ride of a thriller and I really enjoyed it. There was great character development and though there were a lot of moving parts, they all wove together nicely. It definitely needs a lot of editing, but given it was an ARC it was very well done. This is my second book by Seraphina Nova Glass and I look forward to reading more of her books!
What happens when you think your husband committed suicide and then you find out it was murder? Do you investigate on your own, or do you leave it to the police? Well, Anna decides to find out what happened to her husband on her own by moving into this art studio in order to understand his double life. Cass--the apartment manager--has a lot of baggage of her own. After her failed (not) marriage and eviction, she is drawn into this mystery against her will. Who killed Henry?
I had an absolute blast reading vacancy in room 10. This was my first read from this author and I will definitely be picking up more of her books.
The story follows two points of view, Cass who is recently dumped and as a result has to move into a run down apartment complex and come up with unique ways to make some money. Anna whose husband recently passed away, who goes seeking answers about the events leading up to his death at the same apartment complex.
But both women will learn more than they bargained for and as their paths intertwine and they begin to fear for their safety and well being, who will save them?
This story has themes of sisterhood and rebirth. I found all of the characters to be extremely interesting and important to the plot itself.
There were so many twists and shocking revelations and it was super interesting to see it all come together in the finale.
Would definitely recommend this 5⭐️ read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read this book!
This highly anticipated novel from Seraphina Nova Glass did not disappoint.
This was a multiple POV novel and while I enjoyed hearing from both Anna and Cass, Anna’s POV was my favorite. I found both characters to be likable and the mystery surrounding both women kept me interested throughout the book.
This was a slow burn for me and I wish there had been more heavy hitting breadcrumbs to make my eyes bulge along the way but overall this was a good thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley and HTP for this ARC.
This is the first book I’ve ever read by this author. I could tell she’s an excellent writer, but I didn’t see any character making the same decision I would have. The ending actually made me roll my eyes and think less of the main character instead of rooting for her.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Seraphina Nova Glass for this ARC!
This is a dual POV thriller I won’t soon forget! Told through the perspectives of Cass and Anna, this story kept me intrigued from the moment it began. While I did discover the twist on my own about half-way through, Glass really did a wonderful job keeping the story interesting until the very end.
Although I did enjoy this story, I felt the setting at this motel turned apartment complex was not my favorite and I found the conclusion of the story a tad bit cheesy.
4 ⭐️
While I was admittedly unsure about how the dueling narratives, Cass the maintenance caretaker at a rundown apartment complex and Anna is a widow who moves into her late husband's art studio at the complex, would ultimately tie together. But Seraphina Nova Glass did an excellent job subtly weaving in the pieces making for an exciting, thrilling climax. I loved getting to know the characters at the Sycamores.
“The Vacancy in Room 10” is a suspense book by Seraphina Nova Glass. What I liked about this book was the overall premise - a motel turned into apartments for those down on their luck. There were a number of residents to keep track of, but the book mainly focuses on Anna and Cass. I liked the interaction between “the pool girls” (they’d both drive me crazy and be an absolute hoot!) and also the relationship between Frank/Sinatra and Cass. What I didn’t really like was that information is kept from the reader … and while it makes sense due to the habits of the person with the information, a) I saw “who and why” a mile away though I couldn’t figure out how it was going to be found out, and b) it seemed really sneaky/underhanded. I could see this book being turned into a TV movie of some sort. For me, while the idea of this book was fine, I must admit to not really liking many of the characters as they were all unreliable. Overall, if unreliable characters in an interesting setting with tons of stories is something you like, I’d recommend picking up this book.
Thank you NetGalley, Seraphina Nova Glass, and Harlequin Trade Publishing for allowing me to review this ARC!
Wow! This book was quite a wild ride from start to finish. Storylines that fit together perfectly! Cass is a maintenance woman at an apartment complex where Anna's husband (dead from a potential suicide)completed his art projects, and Callum lives because of his (now dead)wives growing medical bills forced him to. When Anna learns her husband's suicide may be foul play she tries to find out what happened and just maybe someone that lives there knows. Cass and Callum have their own secret that could ruin their lives, but when Anna and Cass join forces to figure out what happened to Anna's husband they find out that Callum may know more than he says.
This story was exciting from the get go! I felt as though the characters weaved together seamlessly which led to an ending that was perfectly summed up! I read this book in a day and couldn't put it down! I love when an author keeps you guessing until the end. This story has it all: mystery, suspense, heartbreak, betrayal and hope. Would definitely recommend!
4.5 stars for The Vacancy in Room 10. Told in multiple POVs, this book really keeps you on your toes. I felt like I was guessing until the very end. It reminded me of Schitt's Creek but with a mystery element as it takes place at a run down apartment complex with a cast of different residents. Definitely recommend to all my mystery/thriller lovers!
Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC!
