Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read Daniel Hurst’s new book!!
Daniel Hurst never disappoints! Ellie is unlucky in love let’s just say that!! This is the second book in the series but I didn’t read the first one and wasn’t lost at all. Ellie’s new husband Kyle has secrets. This is a story filled with betrayal, scams, murder and a mothers love which knows no bounds!
Hurst’s characters are always so diabolical. It’s fun to watch all his stories unfold!
I didn't read MY DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND, before MY DAUGHTER'S HUSBAND, but I felt the author did a great job recapping where the first book left off. I liked Dawn's character. She proved once again that she would do anything for her daughter, Ellie. I enjoyed the narration and I thought the story was well-written and engaging. If you're looking for a fun book to listen to in a day, I would recommend this one.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my gifted ALC.
This review will be shared to my Instagram (@coffee.break.book.reviews) in the near future.
They're BAAACK!
Dawn, Ellie, and Harvey from "My Daughter's Boyfriend" are back.....
And so is talented author Daniel Hurst......
with yet ANOTHER fast-paced, engaging, and compelling revenge popcorn thriller.
BE FOREWARNED:
1) Ellie's taste in men was deeply flawed in "My Daughter's Boyfriend" and has not improved in this sequel.
2) Even though this book is a sequel, it's also a standalone read.
I especially enjoyed the book's two villains as well as the book's many eye-rolling moments.
Yes, Daniel Hurst has mastered the art of eye-rolls and he does so with unusual and admirable skill and finesse!
I listened to the full-cast audiobook.
I always enjoy full-cast audiobooks and Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, and Tamsin Kennard all gave Oscar-worthy performances.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"A mother's love really has no bounds"
I really liked the sequel! I though it was better than the first! Poor Ellie really has horrible luck with men, but Mom is always ready to fight for her daughter! Enjoyed the twists and turns this story took! Gotta love a Daniel Hurst book! The narration was great as well!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thrilling, gripping, fast paced and hard to put down, My Daughter's Husband is the perfect follow up to My Daughter's Boyfriend!
Five years have passed since the ending of My Daughter's Boyfriend. Ellie has moved on and found love! She has met the Kyle, the man of her dreams and has a lovely wedding in a beautiful setting! She couldn't be happier. Her mother, Dawn, while initially happy has found a letter which has her reeling. Her handsome son-in-law is lying!
This is an addictive and binge worthy read. I enjoyed the cast of characters, the drama, and the eye rolling moments. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrators. Daniel Hurst has done it again. This was just as good as the first. I enjoyed the various POV's in the book, the mounting tension and sense of danger. Pure enjoyment. There were some twists and turns along the way with an epilogue which cannot be missed.
Enjoyable, fast paced, thrilling and dramatic.
After surviving a traumatizing event that almost made her lose faith in love, Dawn's daughter, Ellie, is finally about to get her happily ever after. Dawn in beyond happy that her daughter's getting married to the man of her dreams, but her joy is short lived because she finds a strange letter and starts feeling terribly suspicious towards her new son-in-law. What is Ellie's husband hiding exactly ? And because misfortunes never come alone, Ellie's ex-boyfriend's father just got released from prison and he is determined to avenge his son.
Well, I won't say that I hated this book, but (and truthfully, I don't mean to be harsh or unkind) it was mediocre.
The events of this story come 5 years after what happened in "My Daughter's Boyfriend" (that I haven't read), but one can easily read this one as a standalone, since everything that happened in the first book is explained at the beginning of this one.
My main problem was that there was no real mystery, everything was out in the open or so predictable that I found myself constantly waiting for a plot twist that never came, or just ... something. We know from the beginning what everyone's role will be in the story and there is nothing to make us doubt what the ending will be.
🎧 Audiobook narration : 5/5 the narrators were perfect though, all three of them ! They really gave the rather dull story some depth and were, I believe, the main reason why I didn’t get bored.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me access to this audiobook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
My Daughter’s Husband was excellent!
I hadn’t realized that this was book #2, so definitely can be read as a stand alone.
This grabbed ahold of me from the very start. The story of Dawn and Ellie is the story of any mother and daughter. Our natural instinct is to look after our children right? But with a previous boyfriend that tried to kill her and his father now in prison, Ellie has finally found her one true love. Or has she? Just days after their destination wedding, Dawn discovers that her daughters new husband may not be exactly who they thought. Add on top of that the fact that a revengeful father is being released from prison….. whoa.
I loved the multiple POV in this. It’s just works. The dual threats to both Ellie and Dawn are done fantastically and I found myself gripped with apprehension as it all came crashing together.
Excellent audiobook with excellent multiple narrators.
5 ⭐️ Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture audio for this ARC in return for an honest review.
A quick, fast paced follow up to My Daughters Boyfriend. We are back with Dawn and Ellie 5 years after their last ordeal, as they prepare to celebrate Ellie’s wedding day. But Ellie’s done it again, she’s fallen for a man who has trouble in store for her! Will Dawn come to her rescue yet again ?
I’m really glad this sequel was done. It’s very much written in the same vein as the last, and I want to ask the author again to trust the reader, we don’t need the over explaining and if I was being pedantic I’d have counted the “this is why” type sentences. Nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.
The characters are a horrible lot - no one I would want to spend time with. And as a result, I could not finish this book. It was horrible from the opening. The mother is obsessed with being a helicopter parent. The daughter is a child at best - perhaps because she has a controlling mother? The men are vile from the outset. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Honestly, I didn't love this one. The premise sounded interesting, and as a mom I can totally understand Dawn wanting to do everything to protect her daughter, but that was really the only aspect that I enjoyed.
I did not find the characters to be particularly likable, the plot was not engaging from the beginning...I think that the writing itself was fine, it just didn't hook me the way that I was anticipating.
I will definitely try more of Daniel's books in the future.
3.5 stars rounded up.
Premise - A mother tries to protect her quite dumb daughter from the unfortunate romantic decisions she makes.
The story is told in multiple POVs - Dawn, the very protective mother, Ellie, the teenage-acting twenty-something, the father of the dead ex-boyfriend who tried to murder Ellie, her new husband who’s hiding his own secrets…
No one is likable. Dawn is obsessive, the guys are all evil, and Ellie is immature, lazy, and a would-be gold digger who can’t wait for her husband to “hurry up and make your millions” so he can retire her. It’s a good thing it’s told as a split narrative, because I don’t think I could stand spending an entire novel in any of their heads!
The story is fast-paced and gripping. The character voices are well done, even if the characters are caricatures - I always know who is speaking, they’re so distinct.
The ending wrap-up feels a little easy, but it’s also more realistic than a more complex ending would be so I didn’t really mind.
The book is a sequel, but I haven’t read the first book and am enjoying it anyway. The last chapters make it sound like a book three is coming and I’ll happily read it!
Fans of light reads and Judd Apatow movies (humorously dumb caricatures of female stereotypes) will enjoy this! To be clear, the guys suck in this, too.
Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Hurst is the master with psychological and domestic suspense. This is the sequel for My Daughter’s Boyfriend and a must read.
Dawn is the mother that is always involved in her daughter Ellie’s life. After all she has been not the best judge of character with men in her life. Her last boyfriend was a killer, so you can see why Dawn wants the best for her daughter.
Five years after her last relationship, Ellie meets Kyle and gets married. Dawn finds a letter that is sent to the couple’s home and it causes major concerns for her daughters’ safety. Mothers intuition is a powerful thing.
Ellie takes out a huge loan to help her new husband and this is JUST the BEGINNING of this wild ride. Who is Kyle? Who wrote the note? Is Dawn being cautious or paranoid! Buckle up for this binge worthy novel. Thank Bookouture and Netgalley for this advanced copy. Due out November 4, 2023.
SO pleased that @Daniel Hurst gave us a sequel to the brilliant “My Daughter’s Boyfriend”.
Five years on, Dawn and newlywed Ellie are back, and Harvey has served his time in prison, after the death of his son, Ellie’s ex-boyfriend, Daryl.
So not only is there the matter of Harvey’s determination to seek revenge for Daryl’s death, Dawn is concerned about Kyle, Ellie’s new husband, after finding a letter that doesn’t make sense.
I loved the dual threats, which added more layers to this gripping story. The pace is fast; no messing, Daniel Hurst leads us right into the heart of the action.
As the different threads of the story collide, WOW! It was so tense and I held my breath, waiting for the inevitable big twist and it didn’t disappoint. Well played, Mr Hurst 👏🏻
I’m a big fan of Tamsin Kennard’s narration and I tend to speed up audiobook narration speeds, so this was a really quick listen for me. Harrie Dobby and Adam Sims were also excellent and I always appreciate a full cast for an audiobook.
5⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Daniel Hurst and Bookouture for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I found this story to be predictable from the beginning. Even without reading the first novel in the series, "My Daughter's Boyfriend," I could foreshadow what was going to happen along the way. However, I did enjoy the dual narration and thought it really added to the overall quality of the audiobook. The story did keep me interested throughout. Sadly, it wouldn't be one I would recommend to others.
Popcorn Thriller with a predictable ending. Narrators were fine.
I much prefer "The Doctor's Wife" series to this one. That is the book that made me want to read Daniel Hurst novels and the one I will recommend to those reading his work for the first time. This man certainly churns out a lot of books at a very rapid rate. It's interesting because so much of the plot is given up in the first chapter which I am still conflicted whether or not this worked for me.
My main issue with this book is the main character's (mom and daughter) who make terrible choices and who frankly I wasn't rooting for in the end. The epilogue had a nice twist, but it wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the book. What did work for me was the dual POV's which I am learning I sorta need in a thriller.
Daniel Hurst will still be an author I read, but this one wasn't.my favorite. I am sure some reader's will enjoy this as it is relatively short.
