I loved this fast-paced page turner!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to My Daughter's Husband on Audio!

First of all, great choice on the voice actors. Each actor suited their role immaculately and it made it even more easy to listen to. Going into this book, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to follow it as I hadn't read the first book in this series. Luckily for me, that was not an issue at all. Hurst did a really great job at iterating all the events that occurs in the previous book, without creating a stale "on the last episode of..." vibe.

Although there wasn't any crazy twists in this story, I still felt gripped to the story, and didn't want to stop listening until I was finished, just so I could see how it would end. I do think the whole husband plot in general was just kind of random, and I didn't feel like we even really needed Kyle's character for this revenge style story, just felt a bit out of place in my opinion, but it did give an element of mystery and something to look forward to unraveling during the read, so I definitely don't think it's necessarily a negative!

Overall, loved it! Looking forward to reading more by this author.

Ellie and Dawn are back and once again Ellie doesn't seem to make the best choices in love.

After Ellie's wedding to Kyle, Dawn soon becomes suspicious as she finds a letter addressed to another woman arriving at his house. Choosing to find out more she investigates further but the truth is going to hurt her daughter and soon they will both be in danger.

It's also been five years since Darrel was killed, but Harvey has been released from prison and he wants his revenge.

Hurst picks back up the pace in this novel, giving us a page-turner. I felt the character of Ellie had developed a lot more in this novel, however, again, I felt she acted very immature for her age.

This novel is told from the point of view of Harvey, Dawn and Ellie, which carries the narrative well. There is also a jaw-dropping plot twist in this novel which I did not see coming and left me gob-smacked,

I highly recommend reading book one before starting this novel as this is the sequel and you will have missed key points from the first novel.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I was very intrigued with the way this book started. I found myself trying to figure out how everything was going to lead up to what we are told in the beginning. I was invested all the way through, could not stop listening. A must read.

OMG! Daniel Hurst hitting it home, once again. I know that when I pick up one of his novels I will not be disappointed or bored! And this one was a wild ride and kept me gripped the entire time. Her daughter really has the worst taste in men and should probably never date again. That being said I can't wait to see if a 3rd book comes out or if the bad guy just languishes in prison and hates them.

Five years after her daughter was almost killed by her boyfriend they have moved on with their lives as best as they could. Her daughter gets married to the man of her dreams, a very successful businessman, but only a few days after the wedding she’s helping her daughter move into their new home, and she found mail to an unknown woman with the same last name. Wanting to overcome her fear she searches her daughter’s husband only to catch him in lies. Their lives start unraveling again once as she follows the husband only to discover more lies. This is a fast paced thriller, and I loved all the twists and turns along the way. Though the mother does sounds a bit paranoid at times, but is determined to keep her daughter safe.

Another good listen by Daniel Hurst I have read/listened to a number of his books and have yet to be disappointed so when I saw this on Netgalley although I really feel for Ellie as she must be the unluckiest woman in love I have ever come across.
Thank goodness her mum Dawn has got her back.
Great storyline with a few twists listened to this in a couple of days

I got this ARC and loved reading it! I did not know it was part of a series but it was easy to follow as a standalone book! The twists were great and unexpected and I loved the comradery with the mother and daughter. A good solid first read by this author!

This audio book was difficult to put down and kept me on my phone listening for more until late into the night. I believe it is a second book in a series but can easily be read as a stand alone as the author fills the reader in on the characters history as the story unfolds. It is a story of revenge and also of how far a mother will go to protect her child. Dawn and her daughter Ellie have just returned from Ellies wedding in Turkey to a man that Dawn approves of this time around. Apparently Ellie has had terrible taste in men in the past and her last boyfriend tried to kill her. Dawn had saved Ellie by killing him. However all is not as it seems, there are new questions regarding Elli's new husband and Dawn has her suspicions. In the mean time Harvey, the father of the Ellies former boyfriend is let out of prison and is intent on finding Dawn and Ellie and extracting revenge for what he perceives of his sons murder. The story is told in three voices, Dawn, Ellie and Harvey which is well done. If you like a good thriller/revenge novel this book is for you. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to Net Galley for the chance to listen to this riveting advanced copy audio book.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series when I started listening. It started with a dramatic narration, and lots of hints to what happened in the first book (this was when I realized I missed the “this is a series” memo. Dawn (Ellie’s mother/the narrator) summarized what happened though, so readers jumping in 🙋🏼‍♀️ can get up to speed that Ellie makes pretty bad choices when it comes to men)

^^ ok I’m coming back after finishing it, and I wrote that paragraph during the first chapters. The good news is, they went it over enough and talked about the past so much, I definitely didn’t need to read My Daughter’s Boyfriend to jump into this. That said, if I had read it, I think this would have been a bit excessive of a recap for me.

Dawn pushes the bounds of a mother’s love when Ellie’s new husband turns out to have a big, horrible secret.

Perspective is told from Dawn’s POV, Ellie’s POV, and a third, from the past. Seeing the stories converge was very fun, and it helped to build the suspense. However, how many books have we all read where there’s a home invader, and he’s got people held and knife point and tied to the chairs, and then regales bis entire bad guy plan. It just fell a little flat for me there - as far as uniqueness AND action.

The ending was nice. But I felt like there was more action in the epilogue than the last pages.

I received an audio ARC via NetGalley in exchange for review #NetGalley #HeyitsJennaReads

This was a wonderful listen. I enjoyed listening to it in one day, that doesn't happen very often. The narrators did an excellent job, I knew who was talking in each POV. I was able to listen to this at 2x the speed, which was good because I want to know what was going to happen next, what new secrets were going to emerge. I found out this is a 2nd in a series, but it read well without having read the first book. There was plenty of suspense and tension in the story. I wanted to scream at the characters a few times to not be so stupid, but I kept my screams to myself. This was my first book by this author and it certainly won't be my last. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the listen, I'll be telling other's about this great story. #MyDaughtersHusband #NetGalley

I have listened to 2 other audiobooks from Hurst and I found him to be an author with great potential writing great stories.

Meanwhile, I wasn’t impressed by the other two books, this one has definitely showed improvement and growth.

I must honestly admit that I did not know this is a second book/sequel. But I have no problem understand it even without reading the first book, which is also what great about this book.

First of all, I really liked there were 3 narrators for the characters, and each chapter was for each character, which made it not confusing.

The plot itself was great with very fast paced, not wasting time, which is what I really like about Daniel Hurst.
I loved how 2 storylines coiled together. I was wondering about that from the beginning like “ interesting, how are you going to do that?”

And it turned out great. I also loved the contrast between the 2 pairs – Father & Son; Mother & Daughter.

However! I wish for more depth in this story, the plot was very predictable despite being very entertaining. I think the book could be a little longer, give it more tension.
The ending was definitely surprising.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, all opinions are my own.

I always enjoy Daniel Hursts audio books and this one was no different! All three narrators do a great job and are easy to listen to. The multiple pov's are well told and was delighted to get a chance to listen to the sequel as I also enjoyed the first in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley & Bookouture for sending me this audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed Daniel Hurst's audiobook, My Daughter's Husband. When I started the book, I realized that this is actually the second book in a series. I have not read the first book, My Daughter's Boyfriend, but I certainly plan to now! Enough background is given in Husband that I was able to understand fully the characters and the relationships that were forged during the previous book.

My Daughter's Husband is a straightforward thriller. There are two storylines happening simultaneously, putting our main character Ellie in danger on both fronts. It is up to Ellie's mom Dawn to save her, but will she be able to in time? There are not any big twists or surprise reveals, and that's ok; I almost felt relieved to read a thriller that was not tricky.

All three narrators are easy to listen to. My Daughter's Husband is a fun, quick book. Thank you to Mr. Hurst, NetGalley, and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to review this book.

After mother and daughter survived Ellie’s homicidal ex, Dawn is hopeful that this time around things will be much different. Unfortunately for them both, Dawn starts seeing clues that her daughter’s husband, Kyle, might be hiding some secrets. As she deals with both Kyle’s shadiness and her past trauma someone else from their past is intent on coming back to finish the job.

I originally didn’t know this was a #2 in a series but this was still an excellent read. I almost wish I had because of how much I enjoyed the story and the author’s writing. Hurst does a good job of brushing up on what happened enough in the first that I wasn’t lost. Missing out on the first didn’t impede my reading of this one at all.

Hurst does an excellent job of building up suspense. It’s fast paced and keeps the reader engaged.

When Dawn would reflect on what had happened in the past I questioned why she wouldn’t be more diligent in investigating her daughters potential loves. I feel like anyone else in that position after what had happened would be paranoid and would at the very least do some minor digging into their background. I only found this part hard to believe.

I love a good thriller and this book definitely served that. This is my first novel read by this author and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for his other works.

As mothers we are inherently wired to protect our kids. This book definitely addresses that.

This is book 2, and I did not read the first, but I still absolutely enjoyed this one.

Ellie is about to be, and then is, married. Her prior relationship ended in disaster and her mom is so happy she has found someone fantastic.

But then. Things come out. The mom is definitely stalkerish. She follows the husband. Finds out some things. Is this new husband not what he has portrayed himself? Is her daughter about to be in trouble yet again?

I love multiple points of view always, and some of the twists and turns. The audio was well done.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

A fast-paced, revenge thriller with plenty of twists and turns and a great epilogue!
The story is told effectively from multiple POV and is narrated extremely well which adds to the mounting tension as the book progresses.
I hadn't realised this was the second book in the series but it certainly works well as a stand alone piece - I just have to go back and read the first book now as I enjoyed the second so much!
I am grateful to the publishers and Netgalley for an advanced listener copy of this audiobook and am leaving my review voluntarily.

REVENGE comes to mind with Daniel Hurst. He’s an expert on this subject. This is book #2 of My Daughter’s Boyfriend) A wedding in Turkey!! And then all the psychological thriller that comes next! Onto book #17 of Daniel Hurst. I think I am a bit obsessed with this author!

I seem to be in the minority here, by I found this rather mediocre. Maybe I would have been more invested if I'd read the first book, but I had no idea until after I'd finished this one that it was a 2-part series.

Having said that, I don't think you need to have read the first to follow, it's all explained as the story progresses. I just couldn't relate to any of the characters, Ellie especially. Goodness, what a naive and rather irritating girl, and this is just me but the constant references to 'my daughter' and 'my man' or 'my husband' were a bit much. It just seems unnecessary, we don't actually speak that way.

I found the ending fitting and it's quite fast-paced and relatively short, and while it wasn't terrible, it also wasn't my favourite.

3 stars.
