I enjoyed Daniel's book "My daughter's boyfriend" and I was excited at the possibility of being able to listen to this one. I was blessed with an ARC for it to only be taken away a day later before I could download it. Very sad.
After surviving a killer few years ago, Ellie has now found the one to settle down with - while she is enjoying her wedding day in Turkey, her former boyfriend's father Harvey is now getting out of prison. Harvey has his mind set that he will travel to Ellie & Dawn's country and make sure he gets his revenge.
After the wedding, slowly things start to fray for Ellie as her mom Dawn starts noticing small discrepancies in what her son in-law has told about himself. As Dawn finds out Ellie's husband Kyle's real story she is shocked and cannot believe that her daughter could be so unlucky in finding a partner!
I enjoyed the 1st book in the series a lot, the 2nd book My Daughter's Husband was an ok book - few reasons, almost until 80% into the book Harvey is suddenly missing and just like that shows up and it just seemed like a convenient fit, how can Ellie be so naive, she is not a teenager who needs her mom to protect her always from anyone she meets in life? There were some chapters where Dawn sounds jealous of her daughter (or this was my thought)
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio and Daniel Hurst for approving the Audio ARC in exchange for unbiased review.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My Daughter's Husband by Daniel Hurst, an audiobook narrated by Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, Tamsin Kennard was way much better than the first book. Ellie acts mature which is great but this time Dawn kept doing some confusing things. But, compared with the first book I liked the storyline much better and all the actions were closer to reality. I believe that the narrators helped to make this book better as they managed to bring the characters to life! It was easy to follow and no confusion about who was who and what was going on!
I liked all the suspension moments and even so, based on the first book, we are guessing that there will be something wrong with the husband I liked how the story was twisted and I didn't expect things in the way they worked out.
I enjoyed that there was more accent on Dawn as a woman not just Ellie's mum. And I absolutely loved the ending!
In this book, as we can guess from the title and first book we will be following Ellie and her husband and will be witnessing how things can go wrong in the least way we would expect! We will have some nail-biting moments when the story brings back Harvey, her ex-boyfriend's father.
And this is what was great about this book - we had two heart-beating storylines! So not just one main twist to guess but two! With some smaller twists in between!
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this wonderful experience!
Fast-paced and utterly gripping thriller, again, by Daniel Hurst.
Dawn was happily attending her daughter Ellie’s wedding, but then she knew that the successful businessman image of her son-in-law Kyle was fake. Ellie was told more by a person who’s a trigger in the story.
On the other hand, Harvey went from the USA to the UK for Dawn and Ellie. Not congratulating them, but murdering them indeed. In the sense of revenge for his son.
The characters under Daniel’s pen were always sharp and with strong personalities. Thank to all the narrators here as well. Three narrators player Dawn, Ellie and Harvey intriguingly. I was drawn into the story immediately by the multiple POVs. Easy to follow.
The twist at the end made me jump, even I was waiting for it. I just noticed this was the sequel of My Daughter’s Boyfriend. Surely I would go back to read the first book of this series, but still this My Daughter’s Husband could be read as a standalone.
This was a quick read/listen. It was fast moving. If something could go wrong for the good or the bad characters, it did. I found Ellie and her mother irritating, but I feel that is what the author wanted. There is a book before this and the storyline of that book is a continued arc in this book. I haven't read the previous book and I didn't feel it was a hindrance as a lot was explained in this book.
If you want a fun mystery read that gets you away, this book is for you.
Thanks to netgallery for giving me an ARC audio for this review. All the opinions are my own
This is a MUST READ! Thank you so much NetGalley for the ARC
"My Daughter's Husband" is a thrilling page-turner with a gripping plot filled with unexpected twists and turns. I found myself justifying the characters' actions to protect their adult children, which as a mother myself, I felt this added depth to the story. An incredible read that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I'd absolutely give more than 5 stars if I could!

Dawn and Ellie, your favorite mother/daughter duo, return in this second book in the series. Five years have passed and Ellie is marrying Kyle, the man of her dreams. A happy ever after for her? Not so fast. Kyle has some secrets of his own. Meanwhile, Daryl (father from book 1) is out of jail and bent on revenge. What will happen when he makes his way across the Atlantic? In many ways I really thought this was a step up from the first book and an engaging sequel. With one exception: (view spoiler). If Daniel Hurst decides to write a third book in this series, I have some ideas about what the plot might be. Kudos to Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, Tamsin Kennard for their expert narration of this new popcorn thriller.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review. Happy Publication Day!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The sequel to -My Daughter's Boyfriend, My Daughter's Husband is a fast, fun thriller. The story has plenty of suspense and moves quickly. The audio was exceptional. Two narrators and multiple POV makes the audio flow well and the voice actors make a great pair!
Thanks publishers and NetGalley for the Arc of the audiobook My Daughter’s Husband by Daniel Hurst.
Mr Hurst did it again. Another book that I just couldn’t put down.
Man she can’t catch a break! What a book 📚 if you’ve read book one My daughters boyfriend by Daniel Hurst the. You definitely want to pick up book two.
I thought I was going to listen to a happy ending for Dawn & Ellie but boy was I in for a ride.
I love Daniels work it’s so binge worthy. I love listening to his work because the narrators are always so good!
Is it Ellie’s taste in me? Or is Dawn too much of a mama bear? Ellie gets married but Dawn notices a very small detail & to top it off the ending with the plot twist! My oh my!
I definitely recommend the full cast audiobook
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc audiobook!
I had read the first book (My Daughter’s Boyfriend) and jumped on this audiobook! I loved the first story and this continued on to that story greatly with some new twists thrown in. I flew through this book, loving all of it, and as it was getting close to the end I wondered how it could ending like that but the major twist at the end was perfection! I love the easy, fast paced writing style of Daniel Hurst and would recommend to anyone!!
This audiobook was a suspenseful read, and I enjoyed the multi-cast narration and multiple perspectives. I picked it from the NetGalley description, not being familiar with the author and not realizing that it is actually a sequel to My Daughter’s Boyfriend, The author did a great job catching the reader up with what they needed to know from the first book throughout the story. Searching for this on GoodReads, I found that the author has published many suspense books/series, and after listening to this I would definitely read another book by them!
This one is as just as good as the first one- My Daughter’s Boyfriend. It’s hard to put down. Daniel Hurst can write a great quick thriller! Check it out!
How far would you go to protect your child? Apparently as far as it takes!
Five years after the first novel, Ellie has found the one and marries Kyle. Dawn is the beaming mother of the bride. The joy is short-lived when Dawn discovers that something doesn't add up with her son-in-law. Ellie sure knows how to pick them!😳
Meanwhile, Harvey, the father of Ellie's ex-boyfriend is out of jail and wants to settle the score for his son Daryl.
Ooh, double trouble?
This is a fun thriller. I would like to rate it higher but Ellie is so naive OMIGOSH, I want to shake some senses into her.😆 Love is blind and all that? But I'll definitely listen to book 3 if there is one.
Although My Daughter's Husband is a follow-up to "My Daughter's Boyfriend", I never felt lost. Daniel Hurst did a terrific job summing up the first novel at the beginning before continuing on with the story. It will spoil the "Boyfriend" novel if you wish to read that one later. Recommended for those who enjoy quick and twisty thrillers. 3.5⭐
I listened to this terrific audiobook, narrated by Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, and Tamsin Kennard. I love multi-narrators that keep me from guessing PoV chapters. Also, all three read at the same speed which makes it easier for the listener not to have to adjust as we listen.
Thank you Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for the ALC.
My Daughter's Husband by Daniel Hurst was a fast paced and shocking psychological thriller. It is the second book in a series, and although I've never read the first, this could easily be read as a standalone. This book was very much cat and mouse, back and forth. There was always something new being discovered, especially with changing POVs. There definitely wasn't a dull moment and I can't wait to read something else by this author soon.
Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I didn’t realize going in that this one is a second in the series. Luckily it can also be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed this light thriller, it’s a very quick and easy listen
Thanks to NetGalley for this audio arc! I really enjoyed this one. It was a quick easy listen. Pretty predictable and there isn't really anything thriller about this more mystery/suspense but it was still entertaining. A woman gets married to a man after 5 years of a tragic thing happening to her boyfriend in the past with Elly's mother killing boyfriend back then to protect her and Daryl's father just gets out of prison and has a mission for revenge no matter the cost so he goes from America to the UK to hunt Elly and her mother down. I recommend but it's nothing too deep, just a fun time.
A worthwhile sequal to My Daughter's Boyfriend with Daniel's usual twists and turns. Ellie was much more likable this time round, a lot more mature. However, she was incredibly naive at times which made me quite frustrated. Dawn was a brave and resilient character who I really liked. Some parts were quite predictable but the ending was a surprise. I was kind of assuming there would be a follow up...but I guess but. The narrators did a wonderful job too. It was a pleasure to listen to them. I'll look forward to the next book Mr. Hurst.
In the end....everyone got what they deserved!! This book was another example of how being naïve gets you killed and in short form. This was a fast-paced cat and mouse thriller. I enjoyed the twists you knew and the ones you didn't know. That mother was NOSEY!! I do love thrillers like this one from time to time where those that needs to die, dies! Thank you NetGalley & Bookouture Audio for this ARC. I prefer my thrillers in audiobook version and would love more from this author.
Daniel Hurst is the only thriller writer that I will read a trilogy from “My Daughters Husband” is the second book and has the same characters from the book “My Daughters Boyfriend” with the exception of Ellie‘s new husband Kyle Ellie just returned from their honeymoon and Dawn couldn’t be happier that is until she finds something to worry about and it isn’t even the fact that Harvey has been released from prison and is on his way to the UK. It seems our little Ellie has a neck for nacking secretive men and once again it is dawn is the one top of things. There’s not much more I can say except OMG an awesome book I loved Ellie‘s defiant attitude in the first book in so definitely loved it in the second there is way more to the story and it is one I definitely recommend. I listen to the audiobook and loved all the narrators once again they all did a stellar job and I really enjoyed their performance as they’re all top notch and totally great I want to thank Audible and Bookoucher and Net Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
