Daniel Hurst has written a fast paced, action packed, can't put down novel, My Daughter's Husband. Ellie made a very poor choice with a boyfriend and her mother intervened. Then Ellie makes a poor choice with a husband who is an imposter.
The cat and mouse scenario moves at breakneck speed with each chapter presenting a different person's point of view.
Hurst is a masterful storyteller. I listened to it on audiobook and the narration by Tamsin Kennard, Harrie Dobby, and Adam Sims is superb!
Highly recommend!
Thank you, Net Galley and Bookuture Audio, for an audio ARC of My Daughter's Husband by Daniel Hurst.
This is the third book I've read by this author, and I am hooked. This is my kind of thriller! Do yourself a favor and get this one. On sale November 3rd.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a great sequel! I could not put it down and it moved a quick pace which was great because the pace made the book gripping. The multiple perspectives in the book really were great and helped to build a lot of suspense throughout the book. I loved all of the twists in this book because I didn’t see some of them coming. Daniel Hurst writes some really great thrillers!
Wow, this poor mother and daughter dou. That's all I can say while not giving anything away. Overall, it's a great book. I didn't see the one twist coming till it was right there. The story was good and kept you entertained the entire time. I love the mother and daughter's relationship. While the book hints at a previous book, it can be read as a stand-alone. I will be adding the first book to my tbr just because I feel it would be interesting to read. The narrator of the book was amazing and made this book even better.
With thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for this advanced readers copy. The next installment of Ellie which started in the harrowing story My Daughters Boyfriend. Ellie is now married but everything isn't as smooth as she would like. How unlucky can one person be? Will we find out in this book? Yet another stunning psychological thriller from Daniel Hurst who is a master of this genre. Outstanding delivery by both writer and narrators of well rounded characters. Was there anything I disliked about the story? No. I had an idea of some story progression but not did not detract from the story which is well written. I would recommend this book to people who like to be taken for a hair-raising ride while hoping for a happy ending. And the twist in the final chapter I would never have guessed. Well done Daniel, superb.
So I’m on the fence about his one.
I really liked the premise, but I felt like it was a bit far fetched…
But…that being said, it was still a good read!
My Daughter’s Husband.
Also, this apparently is book #2 in the series. I did not know that, and it did not affect the reading at all…as it was very well explained what happened before (basically in chapter 1)!
Dawn and Ellie are mother and daughter. Ellie is getting married to her somewhat new boyfriend, but after all that she and her Mom have been through, Dawn is so happy to see her daughter happy.
You see, her last boyfriend ended up dead. But it was either him or Ellie, and “I guess, a mother’s love knows no bounds…”
Well, ain’t that the truth??
So, Kyle and Dawn seem to be leading an idyllic life filled with love and happiness. Until one day Dawn sees something that she wishes she didn’t… and the cookie starts to crumble.
But wait! That’s just the beginning! It all goes off the rails from here on…
Again, I really liked the premise, but I feel like it was one too many far fetched scenarios in this one.
Still totally enjoyed it, and absolutely LOVED the closing line!
Because what wouldn’t a mother do for her children??
Thanks to #NetGalley and #BookoutureAudio for an ARC of the audiobook which releases on November 4th.

Awesome sequel! This picks up 5 years after My Daughter's Boyfriend. Ellie is married, and picked another "winner", Dawn is back on the dating scene and being an overprotective mother, and a ghost from the past comes to get revenge on the both of them. Really good!
My only negative remarks: I wish how Ellie met her husband was addressed, and I wish Ellies character matured a bit.
The sequel to My Daughter’s Boyfriend is everything I wanted it to be and more. This is a tale of betrayal, deceit, and revenge. Ellie has married the man of her dreams and her life seems perfect. Dawn, Ellie’s mother, is not quite as taken with her new husband and becomes suspicious. Who is this dream man, and what is he hiding? This fast-paced thriller was full of twists, turns and ended with a final jaw-dropping twist I never imagined. The narration added emotion, suspense, and intensity while bringing the story to life. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.
I didn’t know this was book number 2, whoops! I wasn’t confused, I actually had no idea there was a previous book which was nice. Definitely going back to read the first one of this series. It was fast paced and great character development. There was no description of the character’s physical features, only their age. Maybe features were discussed in the first book? I enjoyed the narrators, I listened with my surround sound headphones and sounded nice with a very soothing voices. I finished listening in one day, I couldn’t stop listening! I needed to know what was going to happen. I can relate to this story with the mother and daughter bond, they seemed to be very close and tell each other everything like best friends. I really enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading the first book! Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture audio
*****I received this free audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Daniel Hurst did it again. He always writes the most interesting books. I hadn’t read the first book in this series but was easily able to follow the storyline.
A mother and a daughter are trying to start a new life after what happened to the daughter’s previous boyfriend. Little do they know but trouble tends to follow them.
The narrators for this audiobook were easy to listen to and added to the enjoyment.

Story picks up five years after “My Daughter’s Boyfriend” ended. If you didn’t read it, here is a short recap as to what happened in the first book. Boyfriend Daryl is dead, and his father Harvey is in prison for lying to protect his son. Now Harvey is out of prison and wants revenge.
Story is told from the POV of
Ellie-the daughter,
Dawn- the mother,
Harvey- the dead boyfriend dad and
Kyle the new husband.
In Book #1 I found myself yelling at Ellie to stop making stupid mistakes - Guess what?
Yep she hasn’t changed much; but no surprise! ( Actually she adds to the fun of these stories!!!!)
Ellie indeed gets married to Kyle who is a London businessman,
Also as expected Ellie’s mother Dawn finds out something about him.
This was a fun entertaining read! True - it lived up to my expectation!
The ending gives us a clue there just might be third book in this series perhaps -. ‘”My Daughter’s Ex Boyfriend’s Father’ ~?
I listened to the audiobook, for both books 1 & 2 and was delighted that the narrators were the same for Dawn and Ellie. They did a fab job performing the characters as did Adam Sims who performed Harvey.
This is second in this series and my twelfth author, Daniel Hurst.
I call myself a fan!
Daniel Hurst doesn’t disappoint!
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this entertaining audiobook.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for November 4, 2023.
I requested this one because it might be an upcoming title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one.
My Daughter’s Husband (#2)
Daniel Hurst
Dawn’s daughter Ellie and Kyle were just married. The bride was beautiful, the groom was handsome, and the wedding went off without a hitch, or did it. Shortly after the honeymoon Kyle informs Ellie of his money problems and that he can’t get a loan. Ellie impulsively volunteers to take out a large loan in her name. Dawn is suspicious of Kyle. She discovers he has a secret.
In book 1 we discover Ellie’s boyfriend; Daryl is trying to kill her. His father takes the blame and is sent to prison. Daryl comes after Ellie with the intend to kill her. Dawn arrives just in time to stop him by beating him to death with a rock. Harvey has recently been released after five years with revenge on his mind. He wants to make both Dawn and Ellie pay for Daryl’s death.
Harvey breaks into Ellie and Kyle’s house and murders Kyle. Dawn becomes the prime suspect. She realizes Harvey must be holding Ellie hostage and begs the police to help her.
I feel as if this review is giving away too many spoilers, but I can find no other way to write and have it make sense.
Both Dawn and Ellie tend to be naïve. After the nightmare they faced in book 1 you would think they would do their due diligence before committing to any male. The ending of this book was very intense. I listened to this audio book in one sitting. The story is told from several points of view. The characters are each flawed. Dawn is once again obsessive when it comes to Ellie. Ellie is very childish, slothful and a bit of a gold digger. Kyle is a slimy character. Harvey is pure evil. I loved the ending.
This got me right from the start. I want to be careful about not including spoilers, but there was no hiding the flaws of the main characters. The author threw them right out in the open and the twists and turns then began. I was pleasantly surprised by how engaged I felt to this book and would definitely be interested in more books by this author. I found the multiple points of view pretty easy to follow and appreciated the character building throughout the book. I think this was well done and fans of Freida McFadden would definitely enjoy this author.
I would like to thank Daniel Hurst, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me access to this prior to its publication.
My Daughter’s Husband was an okay read. It was a tad but predictable, but I still enjoyed it. Narration was good.
I didn’t realize this is the second book in the series but you don’t have to read that one to read this one. I will go back and read it though! I enjoyed this audiobook so much! It’s so fast paced and told from 3 points of view. I liked all the narrators and it kept the story engaging and moving quickly. Parts were predictable but didn’t take away from the story. This is one of my favorites from this author. If you love a twisty and quick read I would recommend reading or listening to this one!
The writing of “My Daughter’s Husband” isn’t horrible, but I found it frustrating that colloquialisms were misused, e.g. an American saying “Thanks for collecting me” rather than “Thanks for picking me up” and a British person referring to things like “trunk of car” rather than “boot.” Perhaps this is due to the unedited reviewer copy status? All in all, it is trite, relying entirely on overused thriller plot points. I did give. Second start because I did not foresee the epilogue’s events, which is doubly unusual considering how expected the remainder of the book is.
Full disclosure: I have not read “My Daughter’s Boyfriend” but I don’t think that would have changed my opinion.
Many thanks to Bookouture Audio via NetGalley for this audio ARC given in exchange for an honest review.

My Daughter's Husband
Daniel Hurst
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is the second book in this duology following straight on from My Daughter's Boyfriend which I read and reviewed earlier this year....and loved!
When I spotted this sequel was being published, I just had to get hold of it and read what happened next for Ellie and her Mum after the events of the first book.
I'm going to try and write this review so that there are no spoilers for either book - but it will be tricky as the events do relate and do continue roughly from where we left the pair in book 1 - I would definitely recommend that you read these in order.
So, moving on with their lives after the previous events and trauma, Ellie has found the man of her dreams and is getting married.
As Ellie and Kyle begin their new life together, things are looking rosy.
When her Mum visits and spots some post in someone else's name, she feels that familiar tingle down her spine and can't help but wonder what Kyle is hiding.
As she investigates, she discovers more than she bargained for and then their past comes back to haunt them too.
This really gets going straight away and as it moves on seamlessly from book 1 it was really easy to get back into the flow of Ellie and her Mum's lives.
The new characters add a bit of extra interest for us and as expected, the title being a slight hint, I instantly disliked Kyle and was just waiting to see what he was going to do wrong.
I loved the premise of this, but did find myself thinking it a little implausible that this would happen straight after the events of book 1 - but actually this worked well and as it wasn't the whole focus of the plotline, it was easy to let it slide. Especially with Ellie being as ditsy as she is.
Having said this, her development in this book was great!
This was full of action throughout and I spent the whole book on the edge of my seat. I raced through this in one sitting, listening late into the night!!
I loved the action at the end and the outcome - totally sounding as though it was being set up for a book 3 - I did wonder how that was going to go - then came the big twist in the epilogue - absolutely brilliant!!
I'm totally hooked on Dan's books! I can't believe how quickly he writes them ....but I'm doing a good job of trying to catch up 🤣 - this is my fourth read of this year!!
And Mr Hurst - that is not a challenge!!😳
💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕
My Daughter's Husband by Daniel Hurst
My Daughter's Boyfriend #2
Narrated by Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, Tamsin Kennard
Five years after Dawn and Ellie's disastrous mess with Ellie's fiancé, it looks like they've moved on and gained a few common sense brain cells. At the start of the story I thought all the popcorn I'd popped to throw at my brain's screen, as I listened to this audiobook, was going to have to be eaten by me. I'm feeling proud of Dawn and Ellie, staying out of trouble and all, for five years.
Ellie, even though she hates every minute of it, is working at an admin job, saving money, and marrying her new beau, a wealthy young man who runs his own business. Dawn could not be prouder and the wedding is in Turkey. Life could not be better considering where they were five years ago.
But wait, maybe new hubby isn't all he's cracked up to be! Ellie begins to have suspicions, Dawn begins to have suspicions. But of course, withholding info from each other is the way they go. These two, give them two choices and they will always pick the wrong and dumbest one. Looks like I won't be eating all this popcorn, after all.
But they have another problem brewing, too. Harvey, father of the former fiancé is getting out of prison. He's had five years to stew about these two and he has plans for them that will make no one but him happy. How will these two problems intermingle?
Okay, not only did I throw all my popcorn but my throat is hoarse from screaming at them, "don't do it"! Time after time, dumb things get done and even Dawn thinks her daughter is dumb with her antics and that gave me a good laugh. Pot calling kettle black there. Although I do think Ellie drags Dawn down to a dumber level. Mostly I like Dawn except that she goes nutty where her daughter is concerned. Fun times again here, can't take things seriously so I just enjoyed all the wacko people doing their wacko things.
The narration is great, the voices of Dawn and Ellie really fit them and Harvey's narrator sounds like a cool, calculating menace.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this ARC.
Overall, my favorite Daniel Hurst book to date. It was fast paced and an easy read. I had not read the prequel but it did not seem to impact my ability to jump right into this book! I loved the surprise ending too :)
