Narrated by Harrie Dobby, Adam Sims, Tamsin Kennard
I really enjoyed the narrators in this book.Ad soon as I seen this was available I had to request it I love Daniel Hurst writing. I like that we are going back to these characters . Following Kyle,Dawn, Ellie and Harvey is very interesting I like how we hear from Dawn alot and how she cares for.her daughter Like the first one, this was excellent. The book's several points of view, growing suspense, and sense of peril were all enjoyable to me. utter delight. Along the journey, there were several unexpected turns, and there was an epilogue that was unmissable.
Am addicted to Daniel Hurst writing and stories as they are addictive
This is another really good Daniel Hurst book which whenever one comes onto my TBR list I prioritise it, however I would not read/listen to this without listening/reading to book 1 as my daughter's boyfriend - the relationships would not make as much sense.
For me this was an one session listen as I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. oh my goodness the ending WOW it worked so well.
The book didn't disappoint.
I loved the addition of the different narrators for each of the voices it really took you into the book.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
There is no doubt about this: as soon as I finished 'my daughter's boyfriend' a few weeks ago, I was counting the days until the next part would drop on lap. I guess everybody who has read that book was looking forward to see what the author had planned for the recurring characters.
Was Harvey going to be true to his word? Have Ellie en Dawn been able to move forward and put the past behind?
I was happy to once again being able to listen to the audio book. The narrators were fantastic the previous time and they did an excellent job this time too, bring the book to life.
So yes, this is another very, very enjoyable book by this author, but I did not expect anything less. I have loved every other book I have read by him and I loved this one as well.
So please, Mr Hurst, don't stop what you are doing, because this review has been written by a very big fan. 5 stars
This is the second book in the My Daughter’s Boyfriend series. I really liked the first one and was excited to see Tamsin Kennard and Harrie Dobby were back to narrate this one alongside Adam Sims. They really did a phenomenal job at narrating. The author, Daniel Hurst, is really good at keeping you on your toes. I was irritated a bit at Ellie, just like in the first book. She seems to lack all common sense, but then again, the book wouldn’t be nearly as good if she did have common sense. I finished it in less than 2 days, staying up really late just so I could finish it. I love books like that! If you’re looking a for a good book to get wrapped up into, this is a great one.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to review this audiobook prior to publication.
This is my third read by this author and he never fails to disappoint! This is a second in the series (I didn’t realize this before I started reading but the author fills in the gaps and it probably is not necessary to read the first - called My Daughter’s Boyfriend).
It follows the story of Dawn and her daughter Ellie who is getting married after a relationship with a killer. Her mother Dawn initially is so happy for her daughter to finally find a good man but very quickly catches new husband, Kyle in several lies. Her friend advises her to not tell Ellie until she digs deeper herself. Across the world another man wants revenge on this family for what they took from him and he will stop at nothing to get his revenge. I don’t want to give too much away but it is filled with suspense until the very end.
Thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for an ARC to review. @danielhurstbooks #mydaughtershusband #thrillerbooks #bookstagram #bookreview
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC opportunity!
This is the sequel to “My daughter’s boyfriend” by Daniel Hurst, however it can be read as a stand alone. The story begins with Dawn and Ellie, mother and daughter, after the events of the previous book (I will not say so as not to spoil the end of the previous book, however you will learn the ending if you read this one.) This story is told in 3 points of view- Ellie, Dawn, and Harvey, who is the father of the boyfriend in book 1.
The story continues to ask the question- how far would a mother go to protect her child? I found this to be a suspenseful read, and while the mother character could seem over protective she is certainly right in her instincts in the end. While I did predict the ending, I found this story kept my interest and felt like a suspense. I received the audio book version of this book and the narrators did a great job of keeping the characters interesting.
I will definitely read more books from this author.
I was thrilled to see a sequel to My Daughter's Boyfriend. Dawn and Ellie continue with life in the UK after the terrible encounter with Daryl and his dad. Ellie has found love and is getting married in Turkey. Meanwhile, Harvey is out and looking for revenge. Dawn realizes there are some secrets Ellie's new husband is hiding and sets out to find out what is going on. While Harvey is on a plane headed for the UK, the lady next to him realizes who he is and tips off the authorities. While Dawn figures out what Kyle is up to, Harvey enters the picture and throws an even bigger loop for the reader and the storyline. Good ending! Good narrating.
I was thrilled to be granted early access to 'My Daughter's Husband' as I have always enjoyed the author's previous works. I found the multiple perspectives and gripping introduction engaging and absorbing. The author's writing style is something I have always admired.
However, towards the end, the story seemed to lose its momentum, and the ending felt a little rushed and unrealistic for my taste. Despite this, the narration was well-executed, and the conclusion tied up all the loose ends.
While it is possible to enjoy this book as a standalone, I recommend reading the first book in the series to understand the characters better. Although there is some backstory included, it is limited for obvious reasons.
Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre or is looking for a quick read while multitasking. While it may not be my favourite book by the author, it is still enjoyable, and I appreciate the author's efforts to bring this to a close.
I'm a big fan of thrillers and this author in particular, so I was delighted to discover this sequel, a rare commodity for Mr Hurst but which he pulls off very well, with no shortage of his trademark twists and cliffhangers.
After a harrowing experience in the first novel, Dawn and daughter Ellie seem to have turned a corner, and Ellie is about to marry the man of her dreams. Her fiancé Kyle is gorgeous and wealthy, with a beautiful house they will live in after an idyllic destination wedding in Turkey.
However, they have only just returned from a short honeymoon when financial difficulties emerge and it transpires a character from their past is still hell bent on revenge.
Have Dawn and Ellie really escaped their troubled past? And is Kyle really who they think he is?
Another gripping and twisty read. I definitely recommend reading the first installment My Daughter's Boyfriend first to fully appreciate this story since the action follows on and three main characters are carried over into this book. Fingers crossed for another title in this series!
Thought this book was alright, definitely an easy read. Not much to it. I enjoyed the ending so have given it 4 stars instead of 3, even though the book all felt too rushed. Narration was OK.
Rounded up from 4.5
Five years after the horrors happened to Ellie with her now dead boyfriend in LA, Dawn, her mother, is now elated to see her walk down the aisle to marry a London businessman, Kyle. But will Ellie's past catch up to her?
This psychological thriller happens 5 years after My Daughter's Boyfriend and is told in 3 POVs, Ellie (the daughter), Dawn (the mother) and Harvey (the boyfriend-from-book-one's dad). Although it's not necessary you read My Daughter's Boyfriend first to follow the story, things will be spoiled if you don't (and it was a good book, so I recommend the read!). Dawn is still much too obsessed and overprotective with her daughter, Ellie still feels as naïve and juvenile as she did 5 years ago (you'd think she would've matured a bit after such a traumatizing experience), and the men are pure evil. Does this book contain any likeable characters? Nope. Did I still enjoy the crap out of it? Yep. It was very predictable to me (although someone less well-versed in the thriller genre may be surprised), but it was still entertaining. And that ending sure lets us think that there will be a third book in the series... My Mother's Boyfriend maybe? I listened to the audio book, and the narration was great.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Excellent book that grabs you right in the very beginning. A lot of twists and turns to keep this book going strong. The Ending was not expected at all. I will definitely ready more Hurst books
Me 🤝 Daniel Hurst audiobooks
Daniels audiobooks are my guilty pleasure! They are always entertaining even when the plot and premise is subpar. My daughters husband was very predictable and there wasn’t a lot of depth but it was entertaining enough to listen too! I finished it in one sitting. The narrators for Daniel books always do a phenomenal job.
2.5 ⭐️
That was an interesting read! Pacy and enjoyable with strands that had me wondering 'where are these going to tie in?' for quite some time, until that ideally placed 'aha!' moment when all was revealed. There are multiple peripheral characters however, that do all have a role to play in the story, but can be a tad difficult to keep track of .
Delightful listen.
I was excited to hear My Daughter's Boyfriend was getting a follow up book. I was looking forward to reading about Ellie's happy ever after but sadly with Ellie being so dimwitted, it wasn't to be. I couldn't believe some of the decisions she chose to make in this book. After everything she had been through, one would think she would be more vigilant in her relationship but it seems she hasn't learnt from her previous encounter.
This book was a great popcorn thriller, easy to listen to (audio was fab!) with lots of twists. It was a short book too so a quick read.
This was a good book but not as good as part 1. It’s hard to like Ellie and it’s annoying the her mom won’t let her grow up and take the consequences of her behavior. The ending really left it open for a book 3. Of course if there’s a third I’ll be first in line to read it.
This was book 2 in the series. I didn’t read book 1 but there were a lot of references to book 1 which means you can read book 2 as a stand alone or you’ll get lots of spoilers from book 1 in this one!
Ellie marries a man who seems perfect but her mom, Dawn, finds a few things that makes her really suspicious of him!
This one is kind of predictable from the beginning but there are a few twists I didn’t see coming that made me keep listening!
I'm a little bummed! I loved this book and didn't realize it was a part of a series until I was done with it. That being said, it worked as a stand alone book as well.
3.5 stars rounded up *
This is the follow up to My Daughter’s Husband. It’s another fast paced, enjoyable thriller.
Five years on Ellie is now getting married. The disaster of her previous relationship in the past. Mother, Dawn is over the moon that her daughter has finally found happiness … or has she?
I loved the multiple POVs, the duel threats in the storyline added to the overall compelling narrative. There were a few eye roll moments, but easily forgiven as an entertaining popcorn thriller, with lots of clever twists and turns.
The audio narration was fantastic!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture audio for ALC 🎧
My Daughter's Husband by Daniel Hurst is a follow-up to My Daughter's Boyfriend. I did not like the first book and, had I researched a bit more beforehand, I would not have requested it. However, I'm happy with how things worked out because I really enjoyed the book. Ellie is more mature and makes better decisions (for the most part) than she did in the first book. Daniel covers the first book well with the second, so reading My Daughter's Boyfriend isn't necessary.
I love the cat and mouse game most characters are playing with each other. I only predicted one thing, the rest of the twists were surprising, yet believable. And the epilogue! I've read something similar before but still enjoyed it immensely. I rate My Daughter's Husband 4 stars.
Harrie Dobby (Ellie), Adam Sims (Harvey), and Tamsin Kennard (Dawn) are great narrators. I like that we heard directly from Harvey this time around and found Adam to be a good addition.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC.
