Nalini Singh's Archangel's Lineage is the Sixteenth installment in the author's Guild Hunters series. This is a series set in a dark world where lethal, beautiful archangels hold sway over immortals and mortals alike, with the Guild Hunters caught in between. Key characters: Elena, Guild Hunter, made Angel, and consort to Raphael. Raphael, Archangel of New York and one of the members of the Cadre who oversees the world as well as keeping various supernaturals in line.
It has been 20 years since Elena became Raphael's consort. It has been ten years since Lijuan died. It has been 11 months since the war ended, the Cascade seems to have rescinded, and the Legion disappeared leaving a hole in Elena's heart. Raphael and Elena are experiencing their feeling of true peace. No war. No horrors of archangelic power. No nightmares given flesh. Until the earth beneath the Refuge begins to tremble, endangering not only Angelkind’s precious and fragile young but the very place that has held their most innocent safe for eons.
Until it appears that yet another apocalypse is on the horizon and this time it might be the end of the world. Amid the chaos, Elena’s father suffers a violent heart attack that threatens to extinguish their last chance to heal the bonds between them and make sense of the ruins of their agonizing shared history. If you have read this entire series from the beginning, you know that Elena and her father, Jeffrey, haven't exactly had a close relationship ever since Elena lost her mother and her two older sisters in a brutal assault on the family leaving only Elena and her sister Beth as survivors.
This part of the story is emotional because as her family grows older, she knows that one day she will lose them. It's also telling that even Elena's best friend Sara is now in her 40's, and her daughter is growing up to be just as amazing as her father Deacon when it comes to making weapons. Even as Elena battles grief, Raphael is torn from her side by the sudden disappearance of an archangel, and a member of the Cadre. But worse yet is to come. An Ancestor, an angel unlike any other named Marduk.
Marduk's awakening is a warning to the Cadre of a darkness so terrible that it causes empires to fall and civilizations to vanish. This book ends up being a race to solve the mystery of why this is happening and the awakening of an ancient so old that he’s literally one of the last universal common ancestors for some of the Cadre who have somehow lost part of their own history as well as their language. But leave it to Cassandra to be there to help her favorite burgeoning Angel, Elena in some unexpected ways that will lead all of the Cadre to question their origins.
*Thoughts* I have skipped several recent installments in this series because I just wasn't interested in the characters who were featured. It has taken me years to come around to liking Raphael, but I have seen how much he truly loves Elena. He literally gave his heart to her so she would survive. A lot of this book is about Elena coming to terms with what it means to be immortal and getting the closure that she needs to say goodbye to her mother and sisters. To make things interesting, Vivek, a former Hunter, now newly turned vampire, seems to get a fair amount of storyline as he helps research what is happening in the world, and dare I say, a possible lover? And now it seems that the ending of this book leaves little room for another installment. Am I wrong? If so, drop me a note and let me know.
This book took a deep dive into grief, loss, and trying to work on relationships that have long been strained. Readers learn so much more about Elena and her childhood as well as her relationship with her family currently. This might be the most emotionally charged book of the series in regard to Elena’s inner mind.
Seeing Elena and Raphael semi-settled was such a treat and I’m glad they’re happy. I’ve been following their story for years now and the pay off is well worth it.
It also felt like a nice “goodbye for now” for the series. The struggles and wars that had been raging throughout the series have come to a close and things seem to be calming down. I’ll always be awaiting more from Singh, but I think a pretty significant time jump would need to happen for the main story to continue.
I love Nalini Singh's writing. The Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter series are some of the best world building I have ever experienced. That being said, I hesitated between a 4 and a 5 star rating on this book. Why - the pace was so slow in the first half to 2/3 of the book. It was a lot of repetition of the previous books.
We come into this book being informed that Elena and Raphael have been together for over 2 decades. What!!!! The time jump was an interesting choice, or maybe I just did not realize how much time had passed since the first book. It was lovely focusing on Elena and Raphael again, but it did seem to drag. We do get to see some resolution with Elena and her family that was truly a joy to witness. This book focused mostly on relationships. There has been so much happening in this series it was nice to just slow down.
The main thing I did question though - this almost seemed like an ending. If the series ended here, it actually would be fine. Everything has been resolved that has been plaguing this world since book one. Would I hate to see this end - Absolutely! But, I would rather see an appropriate ending than drag the series on forever.
Thank you to Netgally and Berkley for This ARC
4.5stars--ARCHANGEL’S LINEAGE is the sixteenth instalment in Nalini Singh’s adult GUILD HUNTER paranormal, urban fantasy series focusing on Archangel’s, angels, vampires, shifters and hunters. ARCHANGEL’S LINEAGE follows several pathways including the ongoing relationship between Archangel Raphael and his consort Elena, as well as the collapsing infrastructure of the Refuge; a worldwide series of environmental disasters; the early sleep of a troubled Archangel, a the awakening of another, too early in time, and crumbling bonds of Elena’s human family. ARCHANGEL’S LINEAGE should not be read as a stand alone as there are numerous references to previous events and disasters.
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives ( Elena and Raphael) ARCHANGEL’S LINEAGE follows in the wake of a series of environmental disasters in each of the Archangel’s strongholds around the globe. It has been approximately ten years since the last war and the events of the Cascade (an event that causes massive power fluctuations and other changes among the members of the Cadre), and in this, reparations and rebuilding have been at the forefront for Raphael and Elena but a meeting of the Cadre reveals an Archangel has chosen to sleep, and another may be responsible for the chaos around the world.
Meanwhile, Elena’s estranged father has suffered a life-threatening heart attack, and our heroine is battling between heart break and remorse. Elena’s father has struggled in the years since the murder of his children, and the death of his beloved wife, and in this, Elena has felt the brunt of her father’s grief, and rejection.
The world building is complex and complicated as the story line references numerous past events, and the possible connections to the current time line. All is not well with Angelkind, and in this, the Cadre of Archangels is struggling to maintain control of the vast territories, and betrayal by some of their own.
The relationship between Elena and Raphael continues to be loving , passionate and seductive. Elena is mortal yet not-Raphael sacrificed himself to save his beloved, a sacrifice that now connects our heroine to the past. The $ex scenes are limited but intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, powerful and energetic secondary and supporting characters, most of whom we have met in previous story lines. We are reintroduced to Elena’s extended family, as well as the introduction of Archangel Marduk.
ARCHANGEL’S LINEAGE is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, desperation and devotion, love and acceptance, family and love. The premise is dramatic, detailed, intricate and impassioned; the romance is heated and sentimental; the characters are compelling, authoritative, and dynamic.

Opening a Guild Hunter book feels like a warm hug. It’s the feeling of coming home and cozying up on the couch in front of a warm fire with a blanket. This is such a special series full of characters near and dear to my heart. I loved being back with Raphael and Elena and the rest of the crew.
After following different couples and characters for a few books, we’re back with Raphael and Elena and I couldn’t have been more ecstatic! If you read the previous book, Archangel’s Resurrection, then you know we also experience a time jump. I wasn’t sure where Singh planned to take the series and what things would be like after a time jump, but, as always, in Nalini we trust! She’s always thinking ahead and plotting.
I don’t want to spoil anything, so I will just say that this book delivered everything I wanted it to: romance, action, great world-building, and character development. I felt so many different emotions while reading this book. I can’t wait to see where Nalini Singh takes us next.
Prior to reading Archangel’s Lineage I decided to reread the previous books in the series and I’m so glad I did and had so much fun diving back into this angelic world. Elena & Raphael are my favourite couple of the series and I was so excited to start this book! From start to finish I was hooked! It brought so many emotions, a ton of tears with the scenes with Elena’s family members and so much excitement as we get to learn more about the Refuge and the Ancients. I’ve got so many favourite moments but one of them was getting to see Vivek’s POV, I hope we get to see more from him! So excited to see what happens next in this world and highly recommend if you’re a fan of PNR, urban fantasy books!
It has been a time of peace in the world and Raphael and Elena are finally feeling able to relax just a bit. Then tremors rock the Refuge and it seems the world is once again in danger. Only this time it isn’t a mad archangel or some other identifiable threat, but something far more unpredictable…
Archangel’s Lineage is a wildly addictive read full of interesting worldbuilding and fascinating characters. It’s classic Nalini Singh in a way that I truly enjoy and I absolutely hated to put this book down.
We’ve taken another time jump in the Guild Hunter world and Raphael and Elena have now been together for about two decades. Their love and passion for one another is just as strong but there’s a settled quality to their relationship that is just as enjoyable to read about as their tumultuous beginning. I loved seeing them together and the strength of their relationship shines even when they’re apart. The world is in danger in Archangel’s Lineage, but there are also personal stakes. Elena’s father has a heart attack and it brings home not only her strained relationship with him but the realization of how little time the immortal angel has with her mortal loved ones. There’s a bittersweet quality to parts of this story; I really liked seeing Elena come to terms with the knowledge that not all of her friends and family will be with her forever, and that’s okay.
As for the more global threat of natural disasters and the Refuge being in danger…well, this is a plotline I don’t want to say too much about. Much of the fun of the story is experiencing the twists and turns as our beloved characters take them. Singh’s worldbuilding continues to delight and I liked seeing how she brought everything together. Singh perfectly balances the energy of the primary plot while allowing her characters room to breathe and be enjoyed. The result is a wholly satisfying read that ends one chapter of the Guild Hunter series while leaving room for new ones to begin. I absolutely adored Archangel’s Lineage from first page to last – it’s action-packed, romantic, interesting, and completely engaging.
Thank you so much to Berkley Romance and Netgalley for providing an advanced copy of this! All thoughts and opinions are still my own.
I definitely did not expect to finish this book ✨️sobbing✨️. But here we are.
I adore this series and was so excited to get another book back with the main couple.
I don't want to share too many details, because talking about pretty much anything at this point in the series would be spoilery. But I loved how much new information we got, new characters, while still getting to spend plenty of time with the characters we already know and love.
This book really dives into the history and lore of the angels which I loved. And the new character was wonderful. I thought he brought the perfect balance of humor and knowledge.
Plus there's something just so special about getting to see Elena & Raphael's romance across so much time. These series spans quite a few years and I just love getting to be with them long after the "HEA".
I really hope this story is the start to a new main plot. I will never be ready to leave these characters or this world behind.
Peace, at last- or so they think until the earth rumbles beneath their feet and natural disasters begin plaguing the world. The Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh remains a consistent page-turner wonder, including this latest series’ installment.
Archangel’s Lineage is the sixteenth book in a series that feels like urban fantasy, but occasionally has crossed into the realm of paranormal romance to fit in an expanding cast of characters finding their happily ever after against the setting of global intrigue, world battles, and powerful immortal beings.
Archangel’s Lineage follows a large cast of recurring characters from the series led by Rafael and Elena and a few new players. Elena and Rafael are a couple who have a deep and abiding love and partnership, but this latest situation has them mostly tested by being forced to work apart when Elena’s father from whom she’s estranged has a near fatal heart attack and his life is hanging in the balance.
This is perhaps Elena’s final chance to make peace within her family. She helps lead in Rafael’s absence, caring for their beloved New York even while sitting at her father’s hospital bedside. Meanwhile, Rafael and the other archangel’s attempt to mitigate the damage in their regions and hunt down answers for what seems intent on bringing down the world and the Refuge.
There is a sense of impending disaster and the tension mounts as the clock ticks on. Nalini Singh does such action-suspense with character and world background development all blended so well. The ‘villain’ was no person to fight, but the story was as riveting as ever, as survival for all was the goal. The most powerful beings, archangels, are made to feel their own helplessness and struggle to survive like the weak human mortals and immortal angels and vampires who looked to them for a miracle. A miracle comes from the ancient past to guide them, and I can’t wait to see how this new development will affect the ongoing series.
A former minor Guild character who is a newly turned vamp and top hacker for Rafael’s crew and an enigmatic vampire gets an emerging and intriguing secondary story that is ongoing. Oh look, the babies are entering adulthood years and Elena is facing her Guild Hunter friends and family growing old on her. There is a look in on how things are going for ‘Sparkle and Bluebell’ and some of the other couples like my favorite Titus and Lady Sharine. I was struck as Elena learned further how people, including Ilyium’s annoying narcissistic father, are not only black and white, but have surprising depths. And, oh, that brief mention of a creepy archangel of disease makes me curious for what will come in the future.
Another abso-fab entry in the series that fans will devour. I can’t wait for the next installment and heartily recommend this series to both paranormal romance and urban fantasy fans who enjoy angel and vampire warrior and romance action.
I was very surprised at the direction Ms. Singh took this series, interesting twist. I am so glad to be rid of Lijuan and company. But taking on this opponent is a bit daring. Elena’s family was tied in nicely and I hope Elena continues to maintain her improved family relations. Sorry the Guild was not as prominent, but we can’t have all of our favorite characters in all books. It was very interesting seeing Zoe and Maggie aging into young adults. I feared for Cassandra at the point they were looking for a savior for the mantle. Very interesting solution. Can’t wait for the next installment.
I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
For an amazing, fun, heart-wrenching, heart-pounding read – get your hands on ARCHANGEL'S LINEAGE.

Elena and Raphael, along with the rest of the Cadre, are finally feeling the first stipples of peace in what feels like years and years of turmoil. But just as things seem to be on the right track, a shattering quake shakes the Refuge, the spot where angelkind keep their most precious and vulnerable. Along with another archangel deciding to take their Sleep, the Cadre is thrown into chaos trying to figure out what new conflict is arising and what it means for angelkind. Closer to home, the mortality of those she loves is also called to the forefront for Elena as her father suffers a major heart attack.
I always look forward to a Guild Hunter release from Nalini Singh especially those that deal with Elena and Raphael. I appreciate when we branch off with other characters but, truly, Elena and Raphael are the heartbeat of this series.
It was somewhat surprising to find how much of this story deals with time and age and even death. The series has always dealt with the structures of immortality but now we're actually seeing beloved characters age and Elena noticing more and more. Not only is this slightly shocking, but brings up memories for me of when I first began this series. I picked it up when the third book was out so around thirteen years ago! The series itself has been going for an amazing fifteen years and while there have been some time jumps with some books taking place right away after its predecessor and others years later, I appreciate that Nalini Singh has chosen to have the mortal characters aging as they should. It brings a lot of depth to the series and makes a wonderful commentary about the preciousness life.
Keeping the past at the forefront of our minds, Nalini Singh peppers the story throughout with "interludes" of the past. It's unclear how these tie into the overall story, but eventually the reasoning is revealed and you see how much Nalini Singh has built into this world over time.
That's not to say that there is no forward momentum. There's plenty, but it's relatively subtle and more like tying together some loose threads before moving forward to another chapter of the series.
Nowhere is this most apparent than in the ruminations on the relationship between Elena and her father. They're tied together by blood and tragedy and from the beginning of the series have had this very fragile rapport with one another. Neither one seeing eye to eye but still recognizing the loyalty of family. It was heartening to see them come to an understanding about the past and how it effected each of them. They still might not see eye to eye, but they recognize that holding onto their disagreements and heartbreak doesn't serve them in the long run.
Of course Nalini always manages to give the secondary characters their time to shine. This time around that character is Vivek. He's been a pretty steady secondary for quite a while now, if not for the entirety of the series. I'm curious if his teased scenes are giving clues that he'll get his own book? As evidenced with Nalini Singh you never know if, or when, a character might break out on their own but I'm certainly intrigued with getting more of Vivek's story.
Overall, this book felt like a reset on the series. In a way, saying good-bye to the past and getting ready for the future. I think Nalini Singh has shown us she has the balancing power to manage long-running series, as seen in her Psy-Changling books. I like the idea of continuing to see these characters grow and change as I myself continue to grow and change.
Nalini Singh continues her Guild Hunter series with Archangel's Lineage. Archangel Raphael and his consort Elena are relaxing in their first year of peace after 20 years of wars and intrigues. The earth destabilizes under the Refuge and Elena's father has a heart attack. The cadre loses an archangel to sleep and only eight archangels cope with increasing global instability. An Ancestor wakes from sleep to help the Cadre and turns to be a progenitor of Raphael's line. Can the cadre find the solution before the earth turns over to a new chapter and kills off most of the current population. Full of intrigue, romance and adventure. Loved this story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Pub for this earc.
16 books. We’ve been reading this series for 16 books and honestly this would have been a great way to end it.
It was kind of cool, gave us a new character and more “special” pieces of the world we didn’t know about. There was no conflict so it felt like something was missing. But it was also a very smooth read because of that and sometimes that’s okay.
I usually don’t enjoy Elena and Raphael’s books as much as the other’s characters but I think this one was a good one. We saw more of Elena’s family and a huge healing moment for all of them.
If you’ve been reading till now, you’ll enjoy this one. But you definitely can’t read this as a stand-alone.
** spoiler alert ** I wasn't always sure what I thought of this book. It balanced between Elena dealing with her father having a major heart attack, and Raphael and the Cadre dealing with literal earth-shaking potential destruction of the Refuge.
I liked that Elena and Jeffrey and the family were able to heal and come back together some. That was a good healing to that long-term story arc. On the other hand, Singh spends quite a lot of the first part of the book having Elena thinking about how she's immortal and trying to come to terms with the fact that she's going to start losing friends and family. I thought it got hammered on more than it needed to in the same way, which just got depressing, instead of Elena talking to Ilium earlier than she does to learn to try and come to terms with things.
There are odd "Iterludes"chapters that the reader doesn't really understand until almost the end, then I guess we are supposed to understand that they are examples of further chaos leading to the destruction we've been witnessing the angels dealing with all throughout the book. But along the way they were a bit confusing and took me out of the thread of things.
I did like how the Cadre had to come together to figure out how to deal with the threat against the Refuge. We got to see more of all the Cadre interacting in positive ways and not in a "let's go to war" way, which I enjoyed. It was also fun seeing how age and time can mean both nothing and everything sometimes- yet in the end it was Elena with her mortal heart and mortal way of thinking that came up with a solution that everyone could deal with.
This was an interesting addition to the Guild Hunter series. Sometimes the writing felt a bit off compared to Singh's usual writing, a little rougher or less edited than her normal books. But the world building continues to be excellent, and here we get world building that spans eons even the oldest of our archangels didn't know about, which was neat. I also quite liked spending more time in Vivek's head. If we keep going with the series, could he be the next book up?
Not Singh's best book, but a good addition to the world.
We are back in the Guild Hunter world and some time has passed. Elena is having a reality check when everyone around her are getting older and she will remain immortal.
Meanwhile, an ancient is stirring in the sleep and the world as we know is coming to an end. The cadre is in session! Loved the dynamics between Elena and Raphael in this book. Their love has matured with them and we can see their dance in the sky.
This book provides a reprieve from the world ending cascade events in previous books. We are exploring deep relationships and righting the wrongs. We are seeing more about Vivek and his gifts. I loved his POV.
The angel politics, history and mysteries were depicted very well.
I’m not sure I have the words for how good it is to be back in (love with) the Guild Hunter universe. Archangel’s Lineage is currently living rent-free in my mind and has been from the moment I read the last line. And honestly, I don’t care if it ever moves out, because I am loving picking over the details in my mind, plotting out future stories from the crumbs left behind by the brilliant Nalini Singh, swooning over my favorite moments and characters, and just generally being in awe that this series still does it for me.
Which, if I am honest, I wasn’t sure was still the case. I liked the last couple of books in the series, but a combination of factors (including my own forgetfulness and general fatigue) had made me question the direction it was headed and whether I wanted to be on board for more going forward. So, I undertook a full series re-read. Back to Angels’ Blood where it all began—the book that sparked my love affair with this author—and it was the best decision I could’ve made. As I finished book after book, I was reminded of what captivated me the first time around: the incredible world-building, the attention to detail and callbacks, the relationships between the characters that grow and change and sometimes break. Suddenly, I was seeing things in a new light, with fresh eyes, and an open, hopeful mind.
It was marvelous. And it all culminated in my reading Archangel’s Lineage for the first, but certainly not the last, time. It picks up in the months after Archangel’s Resurrection, which had a lengthy time jump, and it’s the first time we’ve seen Raphael and Elena in this future world. Spoiler-alert-that’s-not-really-a-spoiler: they’re just as in love and warrior-like as always. Now, in the interest of avoiding actual spoilers, I can’t divulge what comes next except to say this: it’s worth the read. Not only that, but it’s also worthy of the time and patience you’ve put into reading this series.
Lineage is a fast-paced ride that introduces new elements and characters while honoring the old, holds humor and/or heart on every page, puts different perspectives on the things we thought we knew, and comes together in an ending that kept me reading way past my bedtime, made my heart race and my blood rush, and sent tears streaming down my face.
So, yeah, I can’t stop thinking about it. What I learned, what I loved, what made me cry, what made me smile, and mostly, what I’m going to do now I’ve re-read the whole series and have to wait for next year to see what happens next.
Nalini Singh expands her world-building with this novel, delving into the overall history of the angels, and some personal history for Elena. The 16th book in the series left me crying on several occasions, depicting some closure for Elena's traumatized childhood which created a strained relationship with her father. Jeffrey's character is explored more, offering a vivid depiction of how the family once interacted. This is entwined with a crisis threatening the Refuge, the bastion of angel-kind where children grow up. Characters from the series make cameo appearances (love Bluebell, so much) and the aftermath of war is depicted. Generational trauma, and how parents actions reflect in their children's lives are explored. There is a scene where much-older angels realize some of the young ones have never known a time without strife that I found moving and incisive. Overall themes of loss, healing, growing up and growing older run throughout the book. Fighting to hold on to what you have, while not losing who you are, is explored through Elena's struggles, Her pain and confusion jump off the page, resonating with readers like myself, as does her longing to fix things long past. The ending leaves the door open for hope for a better future, as well as greatly adding to the world lore.
Archangel's Lineage is the sixteenth novel in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. This series has had me in a chokehold since I first started reading it in 2014. After finding out that this book would focus once more on my favorite power couple in the series, Raphael and Elena, I knew instantly it was going to be another fantastic read. Heck, every character in the series that has gotten a book has touched my heart in some way, but Raphael and Elena's relationship will always be my top favorite. Their love for one another since the beginning has been captivating and endless.
I thought with the war being over that, the archangels, angels, vampires, and humans would finally find peace and happiness after rebuilding, but unfortunately things are still not okay. One of the archangels has gone missing from the Cadre, leaving the rest of the power structure off balance, once again. Then, there's the issue of earthquakes, volcano eruptions, etc., happening that has an Ancestor awakening to warn the Cadre that the end may be near for them. It's up to Raphael, Elena, and everyone to learn how to stop it with the Ancestor's help. On top of everything happening, Elena receives word that her father isn't doing well.
This book definitely brought on the waterworks for me, especially when it came to what Elena was dealing with when it came to her father. She's still dealing with what happened to her mother and sisters years ago; I could only imagine what would happen to her if she lost her father, too. She's learning, though, in this book that her immortality comes with a cost, and that is, one day, the ones she loves will be gone. She'll always have Raphael, though. I loved how Raphael was constantly checking on her and knew exactly what she needed. Elena was continuously checking on him, too, since they had to be separate for a bit to deal with their issues.
I'm so glad in 2014, I decided to pick up this series from Guild Hunter. This series as a whole is one I find myself thinking about constantly, which is why I'm always compelled to pick it up and reread it. (I've reread it several times, and I will always find myself rereading it.) The world and characters Nalini has written for this series are captivating and unforgettable. The worldbuilding alone for this series is top-notch. I have no idea how Nalini keeps up with it, but she is absolutely a genius at writing series like this one, plus her Psy-Changeling series (which I need to finish soon.) I can't wait for what she has in store next for the Guild Hunter series. I know I'm one reader who would love to read another Illium and Aodhan story because they are another favorite couple in the series. I don't want this series ever to end.
I give Archangel's Lineage five stars, and I wish I could give it more. It definitely deserves all the stars in the universe with how much I adored this book. (The series as a whole gets all the stars in the universe.)
If you haven't picked up this series, you are missing out. I will forever recommend the Guild Hunter series to readers who love Paranormal or Fantasy Romance.
Several years have passed since the devastating war than nearly tore angelkind and humanity apart. Raphael and Elena, along with the Cadre, have spent a lot of time trying to stabilize territories while one of the arisen Ancients, who helped defeat Lijuan, has been under performing. Raphael and Elena are preparing for a Cadre meeting and ball at the Refuge when a major catastrophe happens. It seems the Angel Refuge is being rent asunder; its magical protections are changing, a danger that makes them subject to the unthinkable for angels: exposure to the world at large.
Because of the extensive damage, the whole world is still being put back together and now, the Archangels and their support staff must figure out what is happening not only with the refuge, but new environmental disasters everywhere. Elena has continued to grow into her angelic immortality at a rapid rate though she is still far behind her Archangel, Raphael. While she tries to do everything possible to assist with the continued problems, Elena has some personal troubles related to her father’s health and their prickly relationship. Always at issue for Elena is the mortality of her friends and family since she grows closer to losing them every day.
Life is never easy around the Cadre; it becomes even more difficult as they must spend a lot of time together to prevent the ultimate loss of the whole world. Cassandra has been keeping her mystical hand in the mix with her brand of “helping” in times of desperate need. There are many surprises in this story and as the titles suggests, involves not only the present ruling Archangels, but the deep history and the development of who they were and are now. Even the Ancient Archangel’s currently awake do not know everything when it comes to their formation and evolution.
This story has so many revelations and interesting details that readers will be quite pleased not only to be back with Raphael, Elena, and their people, but excited and astonished by a new and very startling character related to the beloved Legion, whose loss has been greatly mourned by Elena. I cannot say enough good things about this favorite series nor this latest addition. There are many thrills and chills in this story to keep readers fascinated and afraid to see how it all turns out.
