When I initially picked this one up I was not expecting it to go as deep as it did. There's a lot of talk about grief, how different people might think of those that have been lost, despair and loss. The ghosts aren't the only ones who have lessons to learn, but Dorian does as well as he navigates helping the ghosts, especially after discovering that they can't move on in the afterlife. The story was full of a lot of heart, a little humor and some underhanded plots. The art style was charming and suited the characters and setting perfectly, I especially liked how the ghosts were portrayed.

This is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. I adore the world building, art, character development, all of it. There were some funny/cute parts and a lot of devastating bits that the art did a phenomenal job of depicting the emotions of a scene or character reaction. I think it did a good job of having a fresh perspective, and I never really felt it get predictable. There were points where I realized new directions the story was taking, but I was consistently excited for the next page and interested in what was happening next. I loved that the characters were sometimes majorly flawed but still portrayed as deserving of love and happiness and forgiveness. I went into it expecting a more lighthearted ghost story based on my original reaction to the artwork, but it was a really beautiful look at grief, self-care, accountability, and forgiveness.

This was a little darker than I was expecting. I guess I should've realized that since it is about someone who sees ghosts. I still really enjoyed it and I recommend it a lot at the library where I work. Great work!!

A gothic graphic novel, sign me up. The artwork in this book is absolutely stunning. I loved the story. Dorian is a wonderful mc. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I love this book so much. It is wholesome, adorable, precious, and just all around delightful. Dorian can see ghosts, and he is a ghost therapist. He helps them move on, and helps them shed the rot that grows on them due to fears, doubts, etc. But when a little ghost girl, Lucy, takes the key to death’s door, it prevents all of the ghosts from being able to move on. They all become trapped in the mortal world, and their rot continues to grow worse and worse while Dorian and his friends search for a solution. Dorian’s words to many of the ghosts and his own realization of his needs are really wonderful strategies for dealing with trauma, healing, and mental health. Highly recommended.

Spooky and delightful! After having a brush with death, Dorian can see ghosts and somehow winds up needing to help them! The story jumps right in, and hits hard with dealing with mental health, grief, and standing up for oneself to live our life.

The Ghostkeeper is a story about care. Dorian cares for a population (ghosts) that no one acknowledges needs help. His care is intensive and at times detrimental to his self. The graphic novel depicts how quickly we can lose ourselves in the name of care, how caring for others can lead to not caring about ourselves. This is a story about the importance of boundaries when it comes to providing care. This is also a story that tackles grief in different ways from losing loved ones to mourning what could have been in terms of family relationships. There’s great discussion about agency and how important it is to listen.
This is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel with a great cast of characters! I loved the ghosts and side characters such as Brody and Dr. Greeves. Every character had their arc either for themselves or in relation to Dorian. They all felt fully realized and I enjoyed their journeys. I highly recommend this one for those who want a story with a gothic atmosphere and/or a narrative that explores mental health and relationships.

This is a touching story about grief and letting go. The artwork was phenomenal and the plot highlighted the importance of allowing yourself to be happy and move on in life after tragedy.

Absolutely gorgeous graphic novel that pulls you in with the art and keeps you there with the dynamic storyline. This story had layers and emotional depth that often is missing in other graphic novels.

This graphic novel is the perfect blend of spooky and heartfelt, offering a story that feels both ghostly and deeply human. The Ghostkeeper follows Dorian Leith, a young medium who has turned his ability to communicate with spirits into a career helping lost souls find peace. But when the key to Death’s Door is stolen—trapping ghosts in the land of the living—Dorian must race against time (and the creeping ghostly rot) to restore balance before the spirits are lost forever.
The concept is fantastic, and Taylor executes it beautifully. The story strikes a balance between eerie gothic atmosphere and warm, introspective moments. Dorian is a sympathetic lead—burdened by his gift yet dedicated to using it for good. His relationship with his ghostly grandmother adds charm, while the romantic subplot with the local bookshop owner is sweet and well-integrated.
Beyond the supernatural mystery, The Ghostkeeper explores themes of grief, boundaries, and emotional exhaustion. Dorian’s struggle to care for himself while constantly giving to others feels all too relatable, making his journey both poignant and meaningful.
The artwork is another highlight, capturing both the haunting beauty of the spectral world and the coziness of everyday life. The character designs and panel layouts enhance the storytelling, making the emotions and tension hit just right.
While the plot is relatively straightforward, it’s a compelling and enjoyable read with great emotional depth. Fans of Lockwood & Co. and The Haunting of Hill House will love the mix of supernatural thrills and heartfelt character moments. A charming, eerie, and touching graphic novel!

I legit almost cried at the end. I was expecting a cute book about a ghost therapist not the emotionally heartwrenchy ode to life, family, and loving yourself as much as you do others that I got instead. Amazing book, the art was cute, maybe read it when you’re emotionally stable though

this had so many layers to the storyline I hope more people pick this up! the romance was precious, the art style's exceptional, & I loved the discussions on feelings & learning what to prioritize in life.

The Ghost Keeper was a beautifully illustrated graphic novel that blended elements of folklore, mystery, and supernatural intrigue. A young woman finds herself in a haunted, forgotten town, revealing dark secrets and confronting restless spirits. The artwork was phenomenal, with atmospheric tones that flawlessly complemented the eerie and emotional journey. While the pacing was slow at times, the powerful storytelling and striking visuals made The Ghost Keeper a hauntingly memorable read for all.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to be able to read and review this book!
This is a stunning graphic novel. Great for all ages.

Not quite as funny as you might expect. It has lighthearted moments, certainly, but overall it's meant to be taken seriously. We're looking at responsibility and being driven by belief. For all of the outside events, the messaging is very internal. With compelling characters and a unique approach, this is a solidly entertaining read that will hold up to repeats.

The art is fun and the story is engaging; a good quirky teen graphic for the paranormally inclined. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed the art style of this graphic novel. The story was was interesting and I could see myself reading more by this author.

I was not expecting 'The Ghostkeeper' to be the way it was and I also didn't expect to love it as much as I did; but this story bypassed all my expectations in all of the best ways.
Burnout is so familiar to me and having it hand in hand everyday is a struggle, but witnessing it in a graphic novel, watching the healing and the hope resurface felt so special to me. Our MC takes on too much of something that is slowly destroying him and in doing so sacrifices relationships and friendships and hope but inevitably realises the importance of community and sharing heavy loads. The plot and illustration of this, with our ghost therapist, was just so perfectly done and so wonderfully told.
There's crows, there's cats, there's ghosts and there's a hopeful found family at its end with a gorgeous atmosphere throughout. I would love to physically own and reread this someday and absolutely cherish the time spent in this story. Very excited for anything else that comes from this author!

Artwork was good; story was good. It did take a while to get through it, so I guess it was "gripping" for me as I didn't have a problem putting it down and coming back to it later.

Such a sweet graphic novel! This is a great read for spooky season. We follow Dorian, who can see ghosts and helps them resolve conflicts and get to the afterlife. But when the door to the afterlife is closed, he finds himself overwhelmed, and elements from his own past get involved as well. The book has a lot to say about grief and how much you can give of yourself to others before you need to stop and take care of yourself. There's also a cute romance! I really appreciated this book's message about mental health - it feels perhaps a tad heavy-handed at times, but should work for a middle school or high school age reader. The colors are vibrant and the illustrations are engaging. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a somewhat-scary, but also feel-good, read this year!
