An absolutely enjoyable non-fiction jem. Packed full of information that is full picture with illustrations that make even the creepiest of creatures look sort of endearing. I love the inclusion of caves around the world as well as the many organisims that live in them being included right down to microbes. The choice of font(s) is perfect for the overall vibe of this book, i.e. quirky and cool. Definitely a recommended book for any library serving kids or even for your favorite cave creature loving adult.
The Dark! by Lindsey Leigh is such a fun and informative book that brings light to the creatures might not think about. With an abundance of information and fun accurate depictions it was easy to understand and it made it a very engaging book. I liked that it delved into not just the different types of creatures but also the different types of caves. Any large or difficult word is spelled phonetically for ease of reading and even though it breaks everything down in to small manageable parcels, it doesn't dumb it down either. I think that this book would appeal to any child interested in the things that you can find in caves. I really enjoyed learning about them.
This was such a delightful and educational read for kids. Filled with facts and information on different types of cave dwelling creatures and the caves they live in. The book was well written and was filled with humor to entertain children and adults alike. The vibrant illustrations brought the information to life. Truly a perfect non-fiction addition to any kids home library!
The Dark! by Lindsey Leigh provides readers with detailed information about life in the world's caves. After an overview of what caves are and where they are found, readers are introduced to the three different types of residents in caves, referred to as the 3-Ts (troglobites, the permanent cave residents; troglophiles, part-time cave residents; and trogloxenes, cave visitors). Divided by type of resident, the book shares an abundance of information about the different life forms, from fish to crustaceans to insects, that are specially adapted for their lives in caves. Vibrant illustrations, extensive information, and bits of humor combine for a fact-filled and engaging nonfiction read.
