The little pumpkin seed has a big secret this Spring. With the rain gently falling on it, it starts out with just one leaf then two appear. As the sun shines and the vines start tangling around things it becomes lush and green, reaching up towards the sky. Summer appears and so do the orangey yellowish flowers which turn into small fruits visited by bees. Autumn comes around to visit us and the fruits have swollen into beautiful globes of orange pumpkins shielded by the thick pumpkin vines which have been silently creeping and twining upon everything. The pumpkins are now ready to pick for decorating your house or for consumption in your Autumn dishes. Fully illustrated with beautiful pictures children will fully appreciate showing the life stages of the pumpkin.

The Pumpkin Seed's Secret: A Life Cycle Poem is exactly what the title depicts and tells the life cycle of a pumpkin from tiny seed to large vegetable. Told in poetic verse and accompanied by beautiful illustrations captivate the reader and bring the journey of growth of a pumpkin to life.
The back of the book features features further information and even a recipe to try!
This would make a great book for a school setting in science.
This was a very cute book that would be perfect for a Fall storytime. I loved the detailed pictures and how the story told the life cycle of a pumpkin. I especially liked the extra details in the book with the detailed picture about the parts of a pumpkin, a walk in the woods activity for trees, and the recipe! I love when books are both fun and educational and this is one of them!
Thank you Netgalley for an Advanced Reader Copy of this book!
This book shows the life cycle of a pumpkin - from seed to plant to pumpkin back to seed and plant again. I also liked that it showed myriad ways pumpkins are used by people and animals alike. Fun facts in the back add to the science and it even includes a recipe for pumpkin pie (yum!)
Except the fact for the largest pumpkin pie is incorrect: The Guinness World Record for the largest pumpkin pie was set in September 2010 at the New Bremen Pumpkinfest, in New Bremen, Ohio, where the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers made a whopping pie 20 feet in diameter that tipped the scales at 3,699 pounds. :-)
A nice story about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Perfect for a science lesson in fall. The illustrations are soft and add nicely to the story.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Kids for an E-ARC in exchange for my, and my son's, honest reviews.
A lovely and lyrical book going through the life of a pumpkin from seed to jack-o-lantern to pie. The words flowed nicely and the artwork is beautiful. My 4 year old liked the bugs and animals throughout the book and was shocked to see what a pumpkin looks like before it takes on the famous round orange shape. This was a little over his head. Overall a great read though!

The Pumpkin Seed's Secret is a perfect autumn and Halloween read. Written for grades K-2. This text does a wonderful job walking the reader through all the steps of pumpkin's life cycle, from the little seed to decomposition.
I thought this book sounded so cute and I love the cover. Sadly, I found the wording clunky (many phrases did not even make sense) and too many big words for a toddler to enjoy. The pictures are simplistic - a combination of traditional painting with digital enhancements. I wasn't a big fan.
I did like the facts at the end and that the story attempted to cover the entire circular cycle of a pumpkin seed.
This is a great life cycle book for early elementary children. I love that it includes a bee pollinating the flowers of the pumpkin and the decaying part of the cycle. The illustrations and the back matter help tell the story and add more information. This is a great non fiction book to add to a teacher's library.
A charming picture book about pumpkins and their life cycle. Nice illustrations and narrative to go along with the pictures. Good descriptions of all the ways pumpkins can be used. There is a section at the end, with definitions, and additional information. There is also a simple recipe for roasted pumpkin seeds.
Perfect book for an autumn story hour.
Thank you to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the eGalley to review!
I loved this book. It'd be a perfect autumnal story time pick, not just for its rhyming but for teaching kids about the life cycle of a pumpkin. There are several pages in the back providing more facts and graphs, as well as a recipe! It'd be perfect for a classroom unit. The illustrations are lovely to boot. I can't see a collection or display about pumpkins being complete without this title.
My kids and I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a great look at a life cycle of a pumpkin. And had other great facts and interesting pictures.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
Lovely book with the full life cycle of a pumpkin ! I was pleasantly surprised to find so many aspects included that I didn't expect, such as jack-o-lanterns, food, and rotting/going back to the earth for animal use and soil.
“The Pumpkin Seed's Secret” is a very sweet picture book all about pumpkins, and their life cycle! All the process is written as a poem, making it very lovely and pleasing to read.
The illustrations are full of tenderness, and made this children's book even more enjoyable!
There are also some pages with more info at the end of the book, which I tend to appreciate a lot in children's books about nature—and a recipe is also included!
Very lovely read, that I recommend for all the little autumn lovers!
I loved this book. It will be a great addition to my collection at school. The pictures are phenomenal and I loved the detail. I read it with my 10 year old son and he even enjoyed it too. I can't wait to have my class read this book in the fall.
The Pumpkin Seed's Secret is a beautifully illustrated and informational story about the life of a pumpkin. The story was easy to read, and I loved the facts, definitions, and diagrams at the end of the story.

A great children's picture book with colorful artwork throughout! Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book goes through the life cycle, starting as a seed and sprouting, becoming a vine, flower, fruit. The pictures show each of the parts very well. It ends as a jack o'lantern, food, house for animals, Then the process starts all over again.
What a cool book about the lifecycle of a pumpkin seed. I never really thought about all of the different things that a pumpkin can be that start out as a little see. This book makes you think about it. At the end there are some great pages showing parts of the pumpkin, a pumpkins life cycle, what happens when it rots and decays and a pumpkin seed recipe with other fun facts.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the copy of the ARC.
