Cute Halloween adventure story. The illustrations were perfect and not scary at all. Plus we all need a spooky adventure that has a good and sweet ending.
This is the cutest Halloween book with an important lesson. The story follows a young pumpkin on an adventure to a spooky land after wanting to trick-or-treat by herself. I especially loved how the pumpkin followed the rules when she was on her own in the spooky land and how the parents’ spoke to the child before and after getting into trouble. The author does an excellent job of practically providing a script for parents to use in this situation of a child seeking independence. There are Halloween characters in the book, but I did not think any scene was too scary.
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Little Orange Pumpkin (Little Heroes, Big Hearts)
by Erin Guendelsberger
A cute story about being safe on Halloween. The story shows how we need to be polite say please and thank you. And being safe during Halloween is important.
The Little Orange Pumpkin is a very cute, not at all scary Halloween story suitable for young children. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! The little pumpkin loves Halloween, but doesn't see the value in obeying her parents. This is a sweet lesson in obedience/safety, but I do wish there would have been a teeny bit more discussion on the last couple of pages (namely page 35) about the importance of obedience. My only other complaint is there are several misplaced commas throughout the book. Overall, this is a charming story and a great book to add to your Halloween collection.
Thank you to NetGalley, SourceBooks Kids, and Erin Guendelsberger for the opportunity to review an eARC of this title.

This was so sweet, heartwarming and entertaining. Highly recommend it.
This was such an adorable Halloween book. My family has a special love for all things Halloween, and this will be a nice addition for us. You can easily get lost in the illustrations — they are quite simply gorgeous. There were so many details to take in, and the color palette was so pretty. The story provided great lessons for children on how to safely trick or treat, while also engaging in some fun shenanigans. The only complaint I had was that some pages were a little text heavy for my 4 year old, and he would start to wander. Overall, though, it’s a great festive read.

Little Orange Pumpkin is a sweet (and slightly spooky) story about a little pumpkin that wants to be big. Her parents have a few simple rules for Halloween, but Little Orange Pumpkin believes she doesn't need to follow all of them. When she ventures off on her own and discovers a haunted mansion, she finds that some parts of Halloween aren't as scary as she originally thought...until they are! She finally learns that her parent's rules did serve a purpose and maybe she should listen.
I think young readers will appreciate the cute and somewhat scary illustrations and story. This is the perfect book to read to get into the Halloween spirit, while also teaching the valuable lesson of following the rules. Young readers will relate to some of the thoughts and feeling that Little Orange Pumpkin experiences. This book would make a great addition to school, classroom, home, and public libraries.
A good story for young children who may be wanting to be more independent on Halloween. This book tells the reasons for why kids should follow the rules on Halloween. Especially staying close to your parents. My son loved the illustrations of the black cat and all the different monsters! A good read for Halloween!
