It started ok, and it stayed that way. Just ok. The two main characters were the least interesting ones, as much as Danielle was somehow likable, Jessica was just annoying. And i guess we were supposed to feel sympathy for her as this spiritual[?] true to herself person, but i feel like Danielle boyfriend [ex] was quite right about her. Someone who in the end doomed her best friend. My fav characters were...the old couple, i actually felt for them ;(. The worst thing about this book was lack of any information about Jizzy. I hoped that at the end we at least gonna get some insights into who he was, why did he do all this. There was none, just some random rambling. From a horror point of view i guess it did it's job, it was spooky enough. At least it was short.

This book was pretty good. Not the best but I liked it. Thank you netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I really enjoyed the initial section of this book, as we got introduced to our two main characters and I could heavily relate to things they were going through or thinking which is always a promising sign for any story. However, it started to lose me as the plot progressed. Perhaps my high expectations, particularly since home invasion is one of my greatest fears, influenced my reaction, but I just didn't feel that terror or uneasiness I anticipated. It seems like there was a missed opportunity in the development of the story, and the ending was somewhat lacking in careful consideration. It felt like it took an unexpected direction solely for the sake of a plot twist, even though it didn't align with the logical progression of events.
Furthermore, some of the characters' decisions frustrated me, as they appeared less intelligent than initially portrayed. The antagonist, at times, came across as comical, making it difficult to take him seriously, but despite these shortcomings, the book was a swift read and managed to maintain my engagement throughout, which is a huge plus.

Jessica and Danielle are roommates who are independent from their family and living in a run down area off their own funds. After breaking up with her boyfriend, Danielle decides to have a scary movie night with Jessica. That is until they hear a loud knock. Angry at her now ex, Danielle storms over to the door to find no one there. They go back to the movie, but the knocking continues. The two start to notice odd occurrences and determine that they are no longer alone in the house. An intruder in messing with them with the intent to kill them.

I liked this story! It was a great quick read which was the perfect amount of scary. I can't imagine being home alone with a intruder and murderer, but this book made me imagine it! I liked how suspenseful the book was without lingering on sections too long. It was paced very well. I also liked the character description of the murderer as he was made to seem like a lunatic. Think "joker" almost.

One thing I didn't quite get about this book was what the cops were doing. I feel like even if this was a small run-down town, there should still be cops to help with a break-in. The cops in this book were completely helpless which I think is slightly unreasonable.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers, horror, or suspense books.
This book does have a bit of gorey descriptions in it, so be careful if you are sensitive to these.

A tense and fast paced read. The main characters were likable enough, I did not love them but found them just relatable enough to be invested in their story. The pacing and tension were great, I was glued to my kindle every free moment I had today to read this. This read like a gorier YA slasher and I enjoyed the premise of the killer and the main event's plot. It felt like some parts about the killer were unintentionally distracting from the tension, for me in particular, their name. Overall, still an enjoyable read and I will be on the lookout for more from this author.

A quiet night-in turns into the night from hell.

I had a lot of issues with this book. The most glaring headache for me was the fact no woman on earth would ever behave that way in that situation. Without giving too much away, no one goes outside, no one goes upstairs and no one chooses to stay when they have an opportunity to flee. It was so unbelievable to me that I now have eye strain from rolling them every few pages.

That being said, the tension, the gore, the horror. I loved every second. That is until it was all rudely interrupted with whole pages of pointless inner monologue time and time again. I didn't care about Danielle's indecision about her love life, nor did I care about the neighbours retirement plans. Maybe I'm just impatient but I wanted to get back to the action. For such a short book, half was taken up with filler words. Overall, I enjoyed the writing and the ending was killer.

Best friends, Jessica and Danielle, struggle for their lives when someone tries to invade their home. The intruder’s intention is not what it seems and maybe their lives are more in danger than they thought.

“There Came a Knocking” by John McCool was a decent book. I liked the idea and premise and the build-up but disliked the main characters. I liked Jessica a little bit better than Danielle and found Danielle annoying. It was eerie and had a really good ending despite that. 3 out of 5 stars.

I really wanted to read this and I really wanted to like it. Thanks to NetGalley, I did read it, but it's not great. There should have been an editor just for grammar, and the characters acted illogically and against their own interests. The setting is supposed to be generally gloomy and dangerous but it just didn't mesh with the way people acted. And the action was juvenile but the gore was adult.

Wow, the pacing was perfect for the thriller that it was. I got so invested in the story and the characters so quickly. I can honestly say that it kept me on the edge of my seat more than half of the time.

The ending was unique, but I didn't like how Jessica got framed for everything. Just where were the police? My only problem with it was that the police refusing to show up was never explained. That part of the ending bothered me, but seeing the killer run free was a shock and I actually liked that small twist.

There Came a Knocking was the perfect book to read in the run up to Halloween it was truly terrifying.

The frights start off being easily explained away as pranks from an old boyfriend, but as the story progresses the fear starts to ramp up until your heart is read to burst out of your chest

The characters were well developed and you really felt for them. I loved the ending definitely not what you would expect

This was a tense quick read and I loved it. The whole home invasion genre never fails to get under my skin and this delivered and will probably make me double check my locks a few times tonight.

If you are looking for a fast paced book that is unsettling and makes you question every single sound you hear in your home give this a whirl.

At first, they think it's a prank from Danielle's ex-boyfriend who had a falling out with Danielle earlier that evening, but they soon realize that's not the case.

This was a short book that was entertaining to read. I loved the character building in this, Jessica and Danielle felt like real people and I quickly grew attached to the secondary characters as well.

The pacing of the story was great and I found it difficult to put down. The author did an amazing job of creating suspense, one minute you are calm and in the next minute you can feel your anxiety rising along with the main characters. There were so many unexpected twists that the plot really keeps you on your toes.

I was really drawn to the tense atmosphere throughout the book and it did keep me on edge throughout.

This horror book is an outstanding read that gets under your skin with its relatable yet bone-chilling premise—a home invasion, but not as you'd expect.

Two female housemates initially brush off mysterious occurrences as a likely prank from a past relationship, only to gradually discern that a far darker force is at play. Empty knocks, unsettling window taps, and the inexplicable opening of a previously locked window set the scene. The author masterfully escalates the atmosphere of unease, leading the protagonists down a path of dread and paranoia in the face of their unseen tormentor.

What stands out about this book is its incredible build-up. It grips you, making your heart race with the sheer anticipation of impending doom. The haunting fear of being pursued, the suffocating sensation of being preyed upon, and the unnerving uncertainty of the perpetrator's identity are palpably depicted.

Terrible characters throughout that I couldn't bring myself to care about at all. I didn't care about what was going on but at least it wasn't super long just ended up being very boring.

Geeeeez well that ending sucked lol I guess its part of the story but msn! Well it was a good book! It had great suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, revenge, a kind of who done it, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was crazy but interesting! It definitely kept me glued to my Kindle! It was a pretty short book too but I do recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Its just a crazy storyline! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
