Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!
I had high hopes for this based on the premise and the cover but it wasn't quite what I had expected. I went into this expecting to vibe or atleast want to like the main character and I just did not like them at all - which may have been on purpose for this story. The amount of times I said "wtf" while reading made it fun enough for me to keep going. I will say the ONLY thing I liked about the FMC is that she is a taylor swift fan has there are references for swifties, but other than that the FMC is a complete idiot which, again may be part of the fun in reading this.
The main character is desperate for love, which is clearly why she pursues the letter exchange with a prisoner. But she gets SASSY and DARING in her letters right off the bat and it feels taunting, like she almost wants him to come for her. I do think if you're a fan of the book or tv series 'You' you might like the vibes of this book. This is a book I wanted to talk about in therapy afterwards so it is a ride worth going on if you aren't looking for any romance or a HEA.
This book was OK. I didn't rush home to read it and it took me quite a while to get through it. It would be a good book for a book club as there is so much to discuss. I would read another book by this author.
This has a predictable plot (including the identity of the murderer) with few twists, but it's surprisingly funny for a book about a woman writing letters to an accused serial killer! The sarcasm is top-tier, and the characters are fun if unlikeable. Genre-wise, while I've read plenty of books about unhinged folks, it doesn't fit neatly into any one category.
Wow this was not what I was expecting at all. Talk about a delusional, unlikable female main character. For those who enjoy books such as A Touch of Jen and A Novel Obsession, this is an entirely new level of an unhealthy obsession. Our FMC is in love with a serial killer and the idea of being killed. It was...a lot. Not a romance and not for those who can't accept a character being written to be disliked.
As someone who does “enjoy” true-crime, of course I was drawn to this one! As a character Hannah is definitely impulsive and irrational, but I felt this made her interesting!
Hannah is working a dead-end job at a nonprofit, the guy she was hooking up with ghosted her, and her best friend is MIA, so what does she do? Decides to put all her focus into helping online sleuths in a forum track down a serial murderer in Atlanta, of course! Once someone is arrested, Hannah decides to start corresponding with him. When she loses her job, she decides to attend the trial in GA.
The ending was a wild ride, and I was here for it! There were several WTF moments throughout, and I am left with some questions but overall this was a fun read!!
Who would have thought that the most well adjusted character in this story was the alleged serial killer? While I’m not totally sure how I feel about this book, it did keep me turning the pages. Hannah may be the most broken character I’ve read about and most of the rest of the cast is irredeemable too. While the whodunnit component was figured out fairly early on, it was interesting to examine (even in the fictional sense) the type of women who fall for murderers. I feel like you hear about them but don’t ever really hear the inner workings of their mind/feelings. This was definitely a different read and I’d be curious to see if the author tried to write a second book off of this based on how things were left at the end of this story.
I'm not going to lie this one was on the creepy side and kind of dark. And I like the occisonally dark romance. So don't let to the pink cover fool you this isn't a cute book.
This book was so unhinged but also so good at the same time. While I definitely did not like the main character for her actions and such, I also couldn't help but feel a sort of pity for her and everything she was going through. It was definitely a very unique thriller unlike anything I've ever read before and I mean that in the best way possible. I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next if it's anything like this book.
Many thanks to Berkley Publishing for the review copy!
This book was not for me. I ended up DNFing it fairly quickly. I didn't like any of the characters and found the plot (which seemed so interesting in the summary) to be way to far fetched and unbelievable for me to enjoy.
It's been awhile since I related to a protagonist so much. The story follows Hannah, a woman who after going through a break up, falls down the rabbit hole of true crime. Specifically, some recent unsolved murders. She soon finds herself sending letters to the alleged killer. Chaos ensues. This story jumps right in and keeps going. I experienced second hand cringe, but also wanted to find out what happens next. Unfortunately, I was able to figure out the ending (sort of). I still enjoyed how it got there.
Lastly, my most listened to Taylor Swift song is Enchanted. IYKYK
This read like a teenagers diary. Hannah was honestly so woe-is-me it was hard to connect with her, or any characters really. I called the twist early on, but felt like the whole story was unresolved.
What initially drew me to this book was the incredible cover art and intriguing title! This book pulls you in from the cover alone! As I began the book, it didn’t take me long to realize that I wasn’t going to be able to put it down! ‘Love Letters To A Serial Killer’ is a page turning mystery thriller that keeps readers engaged as the plot thickens. With the letters mixed in with the story it keeps the reader guessing as Hannah herself discovers more and more. I read this book in three hours and didn’t stop once! The characters all feel realistic and Hannah’s descent into the true crime made me worried (incredible character development and writing!). I’m not a huge true crime fan but I was able to find enjoyment in this book! If you are a fan of the genre, I would definitely recommend it!
This might have just been me, but I couldn’t get into this story. I didn’t like the main character at all.
Love Letters to a Serial Killer is a quirky look at our modern obsession with serial killers. If you need a flawed character to be a likeable anti-hero that you can root for despite their flaws, then you may be frustrated with this book. I don't need to "like" the characters to enjoy a book, but that's not how everyone operates so go in knowing that piece of information. This book will be divisive which is my favorite type of book to choose for a book club. Out now.
Thank you to Berkley Publishing and Netgalley for the electronic copy.
3.75. This was a very fun read. Not the biggest plot twist but I was engaged the entire time. I thought I found the main character Hannah annoying and unlikable and then I realized that I am more like Hannah than I’d like to admit. I too have hyper fixations that aren’t healthy for me but Hannah took hers a step further and sent the letter to the alleged serial killer and I just have to say that I get it.
I was in a reading slump for a couple of weeks before deciding it was time to read this book that's been on my netgalley shelf.
I finished it in one go.
The suspense, the mystery, the electric charge between people and the twist and turns that happen really had me floored. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Thank you Tasha for this masterpiece
Thanks to Tasha Coryell, Berkley Publishing Group, and NetGalley for an ARC of this Love Letter to a Serial Killer! I enjoyed getting to read this and give my honest review!
This was different from a lot of books I’ve read lately- part rom com, part thriller and wholly a wild ride. I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this one and overall found it enjoyable!
I really liked the humor in this book. It’s darkly funny, and I found myself laughing within the first few pages. I thought the author did a good job of keeping the reader unsure of who was guilty and who was innocent. There were times I was questioning just about anyones innocence. Also, being from Minnesota, I enjoyed reading a book with so many references to it! It was so fun to see things like hotdishes come up on page!
Unfortunately, I struggled with the momentum of this one. The pacing felt a bit slow in the middle and there were some elements that didn’t feel quite necessary to the story. While our narrator’s quirks and eccentricities were enjoyable for the majority of the book, and I get (at least I think) she is supposed to be somewhat unlikeable, there were times where I was more annoyed than intrigued.
Overall, it was a fun read and I think if it had been a little shorter I would have enjoyed it a bit more. It was definitely unique and not like many other books, so I’m glad I had the opportunity to read it!
This book was very fun. Once I started I didn’t want to stop and kept sneaking away to read chapters, walking the streets of NYV holding my kindle (whoops). I mean the characters were all untreatable let’s be real but also weirdly relatable ? Haha, like we all wanna be accepted but like usually just not be a serial killer you know ? The silly romance thrown in was fun. I will say it’s easy to pick up on who the actual killer is, but I don’t care it was just overall such a fun ride.
Thanks Berkley for the free book!
Hannah is delulu but you can’t blame a girl for trying given her experience in the regular dating pool. This was a fun mystery thriller to read and put you in the mindset of what those girls must be thinking when they’re lusting after the accused serial killers and even going as far as to attend their trials.
Hannah is desperate and insecure but given how guys have treated her in the past it’s not really a surprise why. She’s chosen wrong and just wants to be loved and cared for. She just has a uh…rather interesting approach about it. Trying to find a purpose, she joins a crime forum and finds out that this guy William has been accused of murdering these girls and dumping their bodies in a ravine. Feeling there’s no harm, she starting writing him. Thing is…he writes back. The two form a relationship through letters and he even goes as far as to ask her to be his girlfriend (which was wild but go off I guess).
But once William is acquitted and they actually spend one on one time together, she feels something missing (when is he going to off her, not just get her off) and she realizes she craves something a little darker. Also that twist on the last page!!!
And I called who the killer was going to be. Wasn’t much of a surprise but still fun…. And again, kind of wild but also lines up given the kinks she finds out about herself.
Overall I enjoyed this book and it kept my attention the entire time. Very interesting topic and the main character I loved and hated at times because of the decisions she made throughout the book. I kept wondering who the real serial killer was and how the story was going to play out. The story wrapped up nicely but with some questions for sure. Pick it up if you are looking for a good quick summer book! Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the ARC of this book!
