Poor Harper just wants somthing to look forward to, so when she arrives in Scotland for around the holidays sans best friend and the pub that she was supposed to work at below the Air B and B is closed, what else does she have to loose? Espically when said Air B and B is sporting a tall dark and handsom Scottsman. A delightful holiday romance with an emotional plot and excellent charcter development.
4⭐️ This audiobook was amazingly good!
I loved this! The double narrators and the accents are incredible. I admittedly have a thing for Scottish accents and holy hell, does the male narrator kill it in here!
It's a holiday / Christmas novella with a small town romance feel. I'm sure this would be the perfect little book for an easy, light-hearted read for this holiday season! It's not super spicy, but it is an open-door rom-com, so keep that in mind.
Overall, I would 100% recommend this book to anyone wanting to get into the holiday spirit -and the audiobook is AMAZING!

A short novella (under 3.5hrs listening), I started off a bit shaky. Will Watt's Scottish brogue is HEAVY, and I had to slow it down on his initial chapters in order to understand Reed's narration. Soon enough, I got it down. Both Will Watt and Amy Landon switched effortlessly between American and Scottish accents, still infusing various tones and inflections to allow the listener to distinguish amongst several characters at a time.
The story is light and moves quickly. No real difficulties stand in the MCs way, and Harper has no qualms about moving half a world away. The Christmas element seemed like an ancillary thought and not a driving force, and the "ghost" didn't quite fit in for me...but I won't knock it down a peg for those elements.
Overall: 4 stars
I'll tell my students about: language, sex, alcohol, pregnancy, anxiety/trauma, parental death

There was a huge downside to this story - it was over too soon! Thanks so much to @NetGalley for the chance to review starting over Scottish. I love Harper and Reid’s story. Harper is on a vacation in Scotland where she gets to try her hand at running a pub for two weeks. Of course, plans go awry. Grumpy meets Sunshine in this super sweet, pretty sexy, Christmas time tale.
A Happy little mistake brings grumpy & sunshine together. This story includes cathartic cleansing and long overdue healing. Omg! I was rolling on the floor laughing at the Scottish war kittens! Wee warrior Wallace may just be what every girl needs. Along with The Book B*tches, the girl group we all need. Solidarity in sisterhood. With a Braveheart inspired grand gesture to melt the heart, this was the sweetest way to spend a day. The perfect hallmark movie of a holiday novel.
Absolutely love the narrators! They do the Scottish brogue justice! This story made me think of the very first romance book I ever read and loved the nostalgia!
This is a short, sweet listen. Perfect to switch over from spooky season to Christmas season!
Harper is in need of a life do-over. She and her BFF plan an trip that at the last minute is almost derailed so she decides to go by herself. So off to Scotland she goes for a pub adventure ready to prove to herself she can handle it on her own. She discovers the adventure isn’t what it was made out to be, encounters a very cranky naked Scotsman in the apartment she rented, finds out he knew nothing of the arrangements the small, insular and nosy townspeople made and digs in her heals and refuses to leave. So begins the push and pull of will they, wont they, can they tolerate each other, can they break through their own emotional issues and be the best versions of themselves. It’s a funny, sweet, laugh out loud well narrated feel good story.
What an adorable novella! Everything about this book was great but the highlight had to be the war kitten. If you are a Tricia O’Malley fan, be sure to add this to your queue!
A quick story of an American girl fed up with life and decides to relocate. A Scottish accented manly man , a broken down bar and some meddling buddies. What’s not to love. This was a quick listen for me. Under 2 hrs so easily done in one sitting. Makes the most horrible of tasks go by quickly listening to that Scottish accent! A bit silly but a great book. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my opinions.

The title and narrators caught my attention and the story kept me there. “Starting Over Scottish is a fun, flirty and sweet strangers to lovers story set in Scotland that left me with a big smile on my face.
Harper is in a rut and is starting over. When her best friend suggests a trip to Scotland, she’s in. And she finds a job to help renovate a pub in a small Scottish town. Her friend has to cancel at the last minute but Harper is still going to go. And she is surprised when she finds a grumpy Scottish man in the flat she’s renting. Reed is back home for the holidays even though it has hard memories for him. The two butt heads at first but as they spend time together, a chemistry between them sparks.
This was such a fun and cute romance set in Scotland and I enjoyed listening to it so much. The grumpy/sunshine storyline works so well for these two especially since both are stubborn in the best possible ways. Reed is determined to always keep moving and Harper wants the pub to succeed despite a developer wanting to come in and buy as much of the small village as they can. I laughed out loud many times and swooned so much with Reed. The two were a perfect fit and I hope we get more from them in the future. And the nosy but sweet book club ladies were the cherry on top. And the story of the war kittens was hilarious.
Will Watt and Amy Landon were fabulous as Reed and Harper. Will’s Scottish accent is always so great and I loved him as the grumpy yet sweet Reed. Amy’s narration of Harper was perfect with her determination to succeed with the pub and starting over.
Seeking a fresh start, Harper travels to Scotland to work at a pub. She arrives at her rented apartment to find an irritating and all-too-handsome Scotsman already living there. As developers threaten the pub, will Harper's Highland dreams fade before they've even begun?
This is a low-angst insta-love novella that focuses more on plot than on character and emotion. The audiobook narration was well done.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This was a fun and quick novella. The audio narration expertly brings our sexy Scottish MMC to life.
There’s a cute war kitten, lusty and swoony moments, and warm side characters that feel like family.
The FMC is feisty and independent, you definitely want to root for her.
While the romance wasn’t necessarily setting me on fire, I did enjoy it and the pace of this meant we got lots of tension filled moments throughout as the leads get closer. I did want a little more emotional intimacy, but given the length of the novella, I can see why we didn’t get it.
I recommend this on audio as a fun holiday romance!
I thought Starting Over Scottish was fine for a novella. It could have been developed a little bit more or I wouldn't haven't minded a full book out of the concept. I always enjoy a grumpy/sunshine trope, and this book came through on that end. I could've used a touch more spice, but I could always use more spice.
I have read a couple of Tricia's other books, and I have to admit that this was not my favorite. I liked the novella length, however it seemed to rush the plot along a little too much for my liking. I did like the premise-small town, rescuing a run-down local business, a big, grumpy Scotsman, and a chance to start over.
Harper travels to Scotland on a whim after losing yet another job, and takes up post in a Scottish Pub Experience-working in a local pub whilst getting the true experiences that Scotland has to offer. Lo and behold, when she arrives, she runs into a very naked Reed, who owns the apartment where she's meant to be staying.
I enjoyed the awkward first meeting, and their chemistry. Their romance felt very rushed, too much so to be realistic, but it was a fun story. I enjoyed the small town feel, how they banded together to save the failing pub, and Wallace the war kitten. The random appearance of Reed's ghostly grandfather felt a little out of place, although Tricia usually has a little element of the paranormal.
The true saving grace was Will Watt's narration. I could listen to that man read an encyclopedia or the back of a cereal box and it would be attractive!
Overall, it was enjoyable enough to finish but not one that I am likely to revisit.
DNF at 39%.
I know this is short and I wouldn't have to suffer through much, but I don't want to suffer when I'm reading for enjoyment.
This book made me roll my eyes. It's obviously "new adult", which isn't a bad thing if done well. But the heroine is so immature and both main characters are lusting after each other at their first meeting (and second and third and and).
I just don't care. They annoy me.
I received this as an advanced reader copy audiobook and the narrators were great. If the story was better, I'd enjoy listening to them.

ALC Review
🏴 Grumpy Scotsman
🥃 Stubborn American
🏴 Christmas vibes
🥃 Fantastic townspeople
🏴 Cute War Kitty
This was a quick listen that I thoroughly enjoyed. Harper is needing an escape from her everyday life, so her best friend signs them up for a Scottish Pup Experience.
Harper ends up having to go alone and arrives at the apartment she will be staying at to a very naked Reed.
Reed spends his time traveling trying to outrun his past. He has no plans of staying in his hometown or sharing his apartment with a stubborn American (no matter how beautiful he thinks she is).
Harper will not take no for an answer though. She will get her Scottish pup experience one way or another.
I loved this little town. The book club, better known as the book bitches, were a hoot. I loved how they all came together to help Harper get the pup open and were concerned about wanting Reed to stay.
Definitely a fantastic quick holiday read!
Thank you to Netgalley for the ALC in exchange for an honest review!
This was really cute. I loved the premise and while it was completely unbelievable it was such a fun quick rom com. I will be checking out other books by this author. If you want a fun fast love story to get you in the mood for Christmas, check this one out! Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.
Starting Over Scottish was a fun, tropey, Christmas romcom. It's only novella length, so you're not going to get the development of a longer romance, but since it follows a lot of normal romance conventions it was still sweet and easy to read. Recommended if you're looking for a quick holiday romance.

The audio of this book MAKES it - I'm not sure I would have been as enthralled without the Scottish brogue, but it was fun and sexy and the audiobook was awesome - three cheers for the narrator!
This was a fun novella. Harper goes to Scotland near Christmas to have an experience running a pub, only nothing is as advertised. The apartment where she is to stay is occupied by a grumpy Scotsman. The pub has been closed for several years and is in disarray.
Harper is determined though and with help from a romance reading book club she gets the pub going. Along the way she falls in love with the grumpy Scotsman Reed.
I enjoyed the dual narrators - Amy Landon and Will Watt. It’s a spicy Christmas romance.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a fun listen.
