A hysterical romantic comedy partially set in my hometown of Vail, Colorado, The Seven Month Itch should be on your TBR pile if not already. When your best friend drags you to a singles retreat where your almost ex-husband just also happens to be, you can expect hilarity (and spice!) to ensue. The characters were relatable and the writing is very well done. This was a perfect 'palatte cleanser' read for me.
A spicy, medium paced second chance romantic comedy with plenty of drama! Justice goes to a singles retreat to try and move on from her ex, only to find her ex Terrance there - and they can’t stay away from each other!
This book is a bit of fun, the spice rating is through the roof, the characters are entertaining, the only downside is the miscommunication between the main characters and some immaturity when they are meant to be late 30’s, it can get a tad frustrating.
Overall though, I enjoyed it and I recommend this one ☝️
This was an entertaining book by a new-to me author. It's a second chance romance that takes place in a unique setting, a singles retreat. Justice and Terrance have been separated for a while and not too far off from signing divorce papers. Justice's friend convinces her to start moving on and takes her for a girls' trip to a singles retreat. Justice is not ready to meet anyone, but she reluctantly agrees. Once there, the last thing she expected was to find her estranged husband at the same retreat. The deep connection that they have and a whole host of unresolved feelings painfully come to light as they have to each watch the other take part in the various singles activities.
The story was entertaining and kept my interest from beginning to end. The storyline flowed nicely and the plot twists kept me turning the pages, anxious to see what happens next. Both characters were well-written, with flaws that made realistic and more relatable. This was a story full of raw emotion and drama, but with some fun scenes mixed in as well. I enjoyed this debut story and look forward to reading more by this author.
My thanks to Netgalley for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. The miscommunication was too much, and the smut was overwhelming for me 😩
3 stars
I wanted to love this book so much. There were great things going for the story. The setting was very Hallmark feeling with the winter retreat. The friendships of the main characters were strong. And the chemistry between the main characters was definitely there. There were some laughs from me during this one.
What didn't work for me was the miscommunication and the drama. I feel like after you've been with someone so long the communication should be better, even with all of the issues. Each character was flawed, which made me feel for them. But I feel the book kept going and there were things that were never fully resolved.
I would recommend this to others. I think this could be someones new favorite book/author, but it just didn't work fully for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for the early read. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Unfortunately this one was not for me. I'd say more like a 2.5.
The characters have been together/married for 15 years but recently separated and then run into each other again. The biggest trope with this one is miscommunication, which I can deal with. However the level of miscommunication with a couple with that much history is WILD to me. Had they been married for a year or two then ran into each other years later, ok I could see it. But to be together THAT long. (I've been married 13 years and I just can't imagine.) It really made the characters unbelievable and not relatable to me.
The spice however was spicing! 🥵🥵🥵
Thank you netgalley for this arc.
Justice and Terrence have been on a break for a solid seven months. Like, zero contact. Then, guess what? Fate or whatever tosses them both into this singles' retreat situation, all thanks to Justice's BFF.
The story? Oh, it's a wild ride through the whole emotional spectrum - loss, grief, self-doubt, insecurity, jealousy, anger, and of course, the big L-word, love.
The pace is just right, and you really get to know Justice and Terrence. Sometimes you'll feel like giving them a bear hug, other times you'll want to shake some sense into them. But hey, that's the charm of it. The Seven Month Itch journey keeps you hooked.
Now, about that 'itch' – did they scratch it by getting back together, or did they find comfort elsewhere? Well, that's the mystery you've got to uncover for yourself.
When her best friend virtually drags her to a one week singles retreat at a luxurious hotel deep in Colorado mountains, Justice is thrust back into the reality of dating, marriage, hookups and misfires. There, she runs into her not-yet-divorced husband Temperance and discovers that they are not finished with their relationship at all -- the sparks fly and the tempers flare and mayhem ensues. I was interested, but not totally captivated by the banter, the misunderstandings, and the necessary sorting out the issues that tore them apart. A different take on second chance romance, twists on the tropes, and quick sketches of the others on the retreat kept me reading, but ultimately? An acceptable, but not great read. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.
The Seven Month Itch is a very spicy second chance romance between an almost-divorced couple that happens to show up at the same singles retreat in Colorado. Justice and Terrence lost their marriage as they dealt with trauma in different ways, but their love never died. I liked this debut and recommend it to fans of spicy second chances, marriage in trouble, and books by Kennedy Ryan.
CW: mentions of miscarriage
I Received an advanced reading copy, receipt of which did not impact my review.
Justin and Temperance find themselves thrown together again at a seven-day singles’ retreat in Colorado. Not knowing that she would see him again, having parted seven months ago, she is devested. He broke her heart, and she isn’t ready to see him again.
An enjoyable read but at times, the amount of miscommunication between the couple made me want to throw my arms in the air. There just never seemed to be a time where they would address some of the issues, realistically. Both Justin and Temperance are flawed characters and have plenty of problems to address and the dual POV, helps to unravel the back story to their breakup. The attraction between the couple is evident, with plenty of spice and passion, making this an intense second chance romance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I tried with this book but I couldn't. Honestly it was a bit exhausting to read. The whole first half of the book was so tiring with the constant pop culture references and witticisms. It slowed down for a minute when the FMC and the MMC started to interact more but the constant miscommunication and the absolute insecurity of the FMC when the MMC has done literally NOTHING to earn the distrust was too much.
The book reads like a highs school drama instead of a book about 40 year olds. It was maddening. I'm sure this book has an audience. I think the writing is good but needs a buffer to break up the "humour".
I might have given this a three if I could connect with the main characters but I couldn't. The male BFF seems like he might get interesting but he was so cringe that he gave me the ick straight away and I couldn't shake it.
Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this eARC
This arc was sent to me by the wonderful people over at GoodGirls PR.
The raw emotion in this second chance romance was written SO well. The story was such a fun read. My only criticism is the lack of character development. Otherwise, I truly enjoyed this story.
Who knew that you could save your marriage by attending a singles week event at an exclusive resort! This is an erotic adventure of a man trying to woo his wife before they end up broken forever and divorced. This was an entertaining story with lots of giggles and a few tears. The steam was off the charts and the underlying theme that quality communication is vital in relationships was woven into the storyline very effectively and entertainingly! The characters were believable and the best friends were hilarious! We all need an Emma in our lives! The steam was off the charts hot and it was nice to see it between a man and woman in love with each other. Ample angst to make the twists and turns in the story work hard at breaking our lead couple, but never fear a happily ever after is possible. A good story with an entertaining plot and tons of steam to spice up your reading time!
*4.5
I had a really good time with this. The two of them really just needed to talk and sort things out. He handled things badly but he was working to get better. I love that they never stopped loving each other. The end was super cute and I'm excited for Miles and Emma's book.
I received an arc through netgalley.
I'm all for second-chance romance, but this book didn't work for me. The characters were too annoying. There was a lot of miscommunication, which was quite frustrating.
The Seven Month Itch by Tanvier Peart is full of heart and heat. While not personally for me—the author’s writing style and word choices were not for me—I did appreciate how she wrote the characters’ growth arcs throughout the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Frenchy Press for the ebook ARC. All opinions are mine alone.
What would do if you were in the middle of a separation, and your friend books a vacation that turns out to be a singles retreat, and you find out your estranged husband is also attending. That's what happens to Justice Reyes. Still trying to decide the outcome of their marriage, both Justice and Terrence have a lot of decisions to make.
Wow. This was my first book of the new year, and it brought all the drama and messiness. I did at times find myself getting frustrated with Justice throughout the story. I did not want to put this book down. I got upset and laughed and fell in love with the couple. I so can't wait for Miles and Emma's story as well. I will be looking for more stories from this author.
2.5 stars (rounded up).
"The Seven Month Itch" by Tanvier Peart gave me strong "Before I Let Go" by Kennedy Ryan vibes. It has all the potential makings of a solid romance novel. There's tons of drama, many spicy scenes, a possible second chance rekindling, and BIPOC characters with what could have been compelling backstories. Unfortunately, a critical element is drastically missing here: a spark. This book was easy to read for the first 30-40% or so, but after this point, it became a repetitive mess. The biggest flaw for me is that there's no real "oomph" in this novel. I never thought I'd say this, but there "is* such a thing as too much spice. I think, if the characters have little to no chemistry, or poorly executed backstories, adding heaps and heaps of spice actually *detracts* from the book as a whole. I don't really want to read the fifth or tenth spicy scene knowing I feel nothing for these characters. Sadly, I did not feel anything for Justice or Terrence when they were together. I think that separately, they are interesting characters with redeeming qualities, but together? What a mess. Honestly, I think they would have been better if they had stayed apart. Justice as a character has sooooo many insecurity and trust issues to work on before she should even *think* about dating again, let alone jumping back into a relationship with her ex-husband. Terrence seems like a sweetheart, but I'd question my sanity if I had to deal with Justice on a full-time basis. There were so many miscommunications that it made my head spin. This book is the miscommunication trope on steroids! If there had been some flashbacks to Justice and Terrence's relationship before it all fell apart, I think that could have the key to making me feel more connected and interested in these characters and their possible reconciliation. I do think Peart infuses some good humor throughout the pages, but it's not enough to save the floundering story.
Thank you to NetGalley, Tanvier Peart, Frenchy Press, and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
I didn’t like the seven month itch; I initially thought it was going to be a good read but I quickly began to dislike the main characters. Justice was annoying and constantly jumped to conclusions without talking and never learned from it. Terrance did a 180 from I’m moving on and snogging the face off my college ex in front of you, to I want you back. It was all very much I behaved badly because you upset me. I found the sex parts to be too much, I don’t really want to read about someone being pounded into for what felt like the 20th time in a day and feeling they can’t take anymore, but take more they do. The story wasn’t good enough to overlook the parts I didn’t like, and I was happy to reach the end.
I wasn't sure what to think going into this one. The writing is decent but the characters are dense. I can see that they were written with a lot of heart but they came off just surface level. Beyond the words they said and their thoughts about each other, there wasn't a whole lot of depth to them. I liked the original storyline for this book with seeing each other again after their breakup at the singles retreat, but I also felt that this fell flat. There could have been more going on with their surroundings but instead with each activity, the only focus is the character's thoughts about each other constantly. I understand that this is a steamy romance so there doesn't need to be a lot going on outside the main characters pining for each other but maybe I just got bored of reading the same thoughts laid out in a different font each chapter. I was not able to finish this book, I wanted to but it got to the point where it was just dragging on and I honestly didn't care what happened between Justice and Terrence. I've realized I am not a fan of the miscommunication trope and it was just played into too much for my liking. Due to all these factors this was a DNF for me. Thank you NetGalley and Frenchy Press for the ARC.
