A cute picture book about a Penguin named Penelope that wants to fly. And all the ways she goes about trying to make it happen.

I can't say it was a bad book, as the message was nice and important, too. But it didn't feel like a 'qualitative' book either. There were several mistakes regarding the agreement of tenses, and somehowthe illustrations realised, though cute, also looked quirky.

I wouldn't recommand this book. Other children's books say that same message in what I personnaly think to be a better way.

Penelope the pinguin can't fly, and this annoys her so much. Until a friend came and told her that she can fly otherwise. A beautiful reminder that each of us is unique. We might look the same, and possess similar feature, but we are different as well, and we excel in different ways.

This is the story of Penelope the little penguin who wants to fly like the other birds. Penelope learns to accept herself for who she is.

Thank you to NetGallery and The Paper House Publishing for the temporary ARC that I received in return for my honest review..

Penelope is a happy little penguin in the zoo. She notices that lots of birds fly, but she cannot. She tries and tries, until a little bird tells her that some birds fly in the sky and others fly in the water.. That makes Penelope happy and she continues her happy zoo life.

This is a cute book, but the rhyming prose feels very forced and it doesn't read smoothly. Very young kids might like the cheery illustrations and attempts at flying.

A typical kind of look at a penguin who wants more – in other words, the power of flight. This would normally seem a healthy alternative to the "you can do ANYTHING!!" brigade, and their collective naivety, but this still isn't brilliant. The very first couplet manages to switch from past tense to present – only for the next couplet to go the opposite direction. The art looked very basic, home PC-CG, even if it did provide character and portray the emotions rather well. The final shot is quite fun in a "tee-hee, bums!" way. But I though the text, while rhyming pretty successfully, wasn't quite there – apart from the tense issues it didn't really allow itself scope to deliver the full moral properly, of not expecting the miracle and just accepting yourself and all the inherent wonders contained therein. Still, Penelope does learn both her limitations and that she can be a perfectly decent penguin within those, so all told this is no failure – three and a half stars.

This was an adorable story about a penguin who thought the grass was greener but then found she was special in her own way and didn’t have to do what others do. Very sweet and a beautiful meaning. My 4 year old loves it and has had me read it twice already.

This was incredibly sweet. I enjoyed the message of self-acceptance and appreciating the little things that we can offer the world because of our individuality. All in all, a very cute book that made my heart happy while I was reading it.

This would be a wonderful read a loud in a classroom or for an at home library. The illustrations are wonderful and after reading it, students could discuss or write about which animal they would be!

Penelope is an adorable little penguin, who is living her best life. Until she looks up at the birds in the sky and decides that she too wants to fly.

Unfortunately, despite her many efforts to do so, Penelope is met with failure every time. She is distraught, until she meets a friendly Robin who gives her some very helpful life advice.

The message of this story is that we all have our own gifts and we need to learn to embrace those. It is delivered through a simple story with very cute illustrations, and will be an excellent book to share with young children.
