"Her reputation is at risk. He vows to help…but soon finds resisting her the greatest challenge of all.
When Lord Hugh Aldershot, the Viscount of Tremberley, overhears the drunken Earl of Hartley claiming to have bedded Lady Henrietta Breminster, his best friend's little sister, he is livid. He drags the passed-out earl to Breminster House to face punishment for his blathering, only to find himself face-to-face with Lady Henrietta in a sexy night dress and little else.
When Lady Henrietta Breminster sees the Viscount of Tremberley dragging the unconscious Earl of Hartley to her doorstep, she panics. Not only was she indiscreet with the earl, but she has long nursed a flaming tendre for her brother's best friend. Now she must ask Tremberley to help her keep her biggest mistake from the gossips of the ton.
Drawn closer by their efforts to subdue the jealous earl, Trem and Henrietta soon discover their own forbidden attraction. But even as Henrietta discovers true passion with Trem, she knows she could never marry for anything less than love."
Oh, I think love is definitely on the table.
When Lord Hugh Aldershot, the Viscount of Tremberly, heard the name Lady Henrietta Breminster come from the mouth of a terribly drunk Earl of Hartley he’s intrigued. When Hartley claims to have bedded Lady Henrietta, who is also his best friends little sister, he’s livid. He resolves to handle the situation by dragging the Earl directly over to Breminster house. He isn’t expecting Lady Henrietta dressed in barely anything, let alone prepared for all of the truths he has to face.
Lady Henrietta sees the Viscount of Tremberly at her house with the passed out Earl. Naturally she panics. Henrietta has long harbored a flame for her brothers best friend. Now she must ask for his help to keep her mistake with the Earl a secret. Trying to keep the Earl in line they soon realize they need to deal with their forbidden attraction.
This book is every bit as good as the popular Bridgerton series… but make it FILTHIER! It surpasses all expectations. it’s difficult to find a historical romance that has the perfect balance of regency properness you find in classic historical romance and filthy smut of more contemporary reads. Neither concept overwhelmed the other allowing for the reader to feel like they are still immersed in the time period but I think the more modern aspect makes things more relatable. This book is completely character driven each decision that one makes it cohesively makes another one react. Even if something seems to come from left field the author connects the dots between these events and it all makes sense. This is a dual POV so while one characters does something the author switches POV without a hitch.
The sex scenes are pretty great and creative for the setting that rounds put the characters relationship. I love that while the cover makes this book look like a regular romance not unlike the cartoon covers and the inside is dirtier then expected.
Lord Tremberly is a very dreamy character. He’s salacious, brave, and determined. At first he seems dense and there is a pitiful attempt at resisting Henrietta. While this is an age gap one of his reasons is not that but Henrietta is his best friends sister. Many choices made by Trem is in reaction to what Henrietta has done. I kind of love this because he is chasing her for all the right reasons. I think it also subtly highlights the change in Trem from rake acting like a child to a man who is ready for a relationship but it would be with someone that could have tendencies to do things that seem more childlike. An example would be something like just being impulsive and acting on those impulses. Trem is a self-aware character and I think having his POV really enhanced this book.
Lady Henrietta is impulsive like Trem but while we actually see her impulses Trems we just get an account of his actions which highlights his growth. With Henrietta being the younger character I love that Trem is understanding of her actions. She is a younger character but I love that she doesn’t waver from her decisions and there’s this strong feminist link that is present throughout.
I LOVED this book and I will be not only buying others in this series but happily getting my own physical copy!
I enjoyed Lydia Lloyd’s debut, but this second book is even better. I’m a sucker for a good brother’s best friend story, and Lloyd uses that here. I found the love story to be super steamy and incredibly satisfying. I can’t wait for more from this author!
I received an ARC from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This was another triumph for Ms Lloyd. This novel was romantic, swoony and had very well written Spice. I really appreciate the care and knowledge Ms. Lloyd places in her works. She is so talented, and this sophomore work shines.
I should have realized when the author's note says it is steamy, they are not kidding! MANY open door scenes, and I felt their actual interest in one another as people could have been better developed, but it did make me interested in trying the other books in this series.
Trem and Henrietta, I absolutely loved these characters. The book moves quickly and they get together very quickly and it genuinely left me in suspense of what the rest of the book was going to entail. I shouldn't have worried at all because what happens afterward is action packed, emotional, and a story that really delves into family and friendship and how those bonds are tried and tested. I don't want to give too much of the plot specifics away but what I dearly loved about this book was how much Lloyd filled out the world with characters that undoubtedly existed in.
I love a best friend’s brother/sister trope, and this was no exception. This is a super spicy read, so if you don’t like that idea, don’t read this book.
The characters could have been developed more and there were a few plot points that were left unexplored, which was a shame.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest opinions.
Too much inner dialogue in the beginning. I love the best friend’s sister trope. Wanted to like this one more. Just a bit melodramatic for my taste.
I’ve rated this 4.5, rounded up to 5.
The author warns at the beginning of the bookthat "there is a lot of sex in this book", and she sure delivers!
What I enjoyed:
- This book was sexy as hell. The explicit scenes begin fairly early in the novel and continue frequently throughout. The author manages to make each scene feel fresh and hot to read. It was definitely on the kinkier side for historical romance, which tends to be pretty tame even when explicit. We get some semi-public sex in a garden, as well as a scene involving strawberries that was reminiscent of an encounter in Suddenly You, one of my favorite historical romances.
- The heroine has a complicated relationship with both her parents (including her estranged birth mother), but they're never demonized. No one-dimensionsal villainous parents here.
- A non-virgin heroine who is no shrieking violet; she's never ashamed of herself or her sexuality. Her sexual exploration with the hero is eager and enthusiastic. In their first scene together, the heroine gives the hero a firm dressing down about the double standards in society regarding women and men who seek their pleasure.
- The side characters were well-formed and had their own interesting arcs, especially the heroine's best friend and fiancée who were a delightfully wholesome couple that you wanted to have their own HEA. The sister-in-law has a great scene where she shatters a vase to break up a fight between the hero and the heroine's brother that was pretty badass. Also, I would gladly read a book about Montaigne!
- We get a sweet scene of the heroine tending to the hero's wounds. Which turns steamy when Trem is more than willing to figh through the pain to be with Henrietta again.
- Representation for characters of color, and commentary on their place in society through the heroine's best friend, mother and fiancé, without feeling out of place.
- Loss and grief, and the different ways they manifest or can occur, are important themes in this story. The hero and heroine have fairy deep and candid discussions about their individual trauma that was refreshing.
This book surprised me in that when the hero and heroine ended up together fairly early in the story, I expected some sort of drama to lead to a break up and the third act to be devoted to their reconciliation. That is typically how these stories go - instead, the second half about the book is not only about them strengthening their relationship, but about their individual character development, particularly that of the heroine. This is also where their relationship grows from lust to love, and we get more tender moments rather than just steamy sex (although there is still plenty of that!).
All in all, a great read if you’re looking for a sexy historical romance with plenty of steam and good writing.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I love a good historical romance when written properly and this one does not disappoint. The author did a good job of building the story between the H&h so you could feel the connection and were rooting for them. The storyline itself was a little different than what I would consider a traditional historical romance. The heroine was strong and determined and wanted what she wanted even if it was a bit outside of what was considered acceptable at the time for a female and the viscount just wanted to save her from herself. It was an easy read and I didn't get bored like I have been recently with most novels in this genre.
I enjoyed this book. Lydia Lloyd’s ,'When the Viscount Wanted Me’ surprised me, as the general premise initially turned me off. However, Lloyd’s ability to create a narrative was engaging and enjoyable.
The characters in are well-defined and likable, even if I was frustrated with them at times. While this is a standalone, I think that it might be better appreciated after reading the first book in the series. I did not, and I regretted it to some extent. I think I would have enjoyed certain interactions between characters more if I was more familiar with them.
Lydia Lloyd has been an absolute fantastic addition to my historical romance to go to authors club. Her newest book When the Viscount Wanted Me is just as fun as her previous book. I was worried this wouldn’t live up to the hype of her first book, but I was wrong. If you’re looking for a different take on historical romance, this is the book for you! I loved how Henrietta empowered herself and Trem was right there by her side.
Thank you #Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick, enjoyable, smutty read! Both main characters had quirks & were still relatable. The writing was intriguing and thorough & I enjoyed the book!
When the viscount wanted me by Lydia Lloyd is such a brilliant book. This book is just my cup of tea.
This book have a high sexual tension, suspense, dark past, angst, explicit spicy scenes, heart breaking moments and tears. This book keep reader at the edge of their seat. The spiciness of this book is just intense. The book shows that women also responsible for their own desire. They have the right to choose the man who they want to bed which is very refreshing storyline from any other book.
I'll definitely be waiting for more books from Lydia Lloyd and I'm looking forward to read the next part.
Yes, you'll need to turn that heat down because once you read this book, you'll need some alone time! Trem and Henrietta just spark the flames with their longing for one another and I enjoy every page. Amazing story that breaks all stigma for historical romance. Page turner and it leaves you wanting more when this ends.
10/10
Agh I was really looking forward to this book based on the synopsis but I just could not get invested in it. If you are all for a very open door and quick romance, this is definitely for you, but I find that I adore the slow burn.
The heat just radiated from the pages. Trem and Henrietta have known each other for ages. She is his best friends younger sister by 10 years. She has had him in her mind forever. A situation puts Henrietta in Trems path. Sparks fly, passion develops as does lobe.
A stalker, some secrets, an angry brother later they receive their hea
When the Viscount wanted me is the story of the Viscount of Tremberley and Lady Henrietta Breminster.
The minute Lord Hugh, Viscount Tremberley hears the Earl of Hartley talking about his best friend’s little sister in a intimate way, he stands to make right by her. Little did he know that by rescuing her he would rescue himself. On the other hand, Lady Henrietta who always cared deeply for her brother’s best friend challenges him with her secrets, passion and impulsive decisions while dealing with a dangerous stalker.
I read this book as a stand-alone before reading “When the Duke loved me” which is the first book from the Rake Chronicles series. Every reference to the past was well explained here so you would be able to follow the story perfectly.
Prepare yourself to read lots of sex scenes with a low suspense level plot.
Lydia Lloyd has long been a favorite follow for me on bookstagram. When her first novel came out, I'll admit I was worried it might not live up to the hype I'd built up in my head. No worries there - it was an easy 5 stars for me. If you haven't read When the Duke Loved Me yet, run don't walk to pick it up.
When the Viscount Wanted Me quickly cemented itself as another favorite for me. The tropes all hit the spot - older brother's best friend, reformed rake MMC, age gap (10 years, she's 22). Trem and Henrietta, whose romance was teased in the first book of the series, get together relatively quickly (and in a way you don't often see in HR) but there's plenty of plot left - though it is relatively low stakes.
Pick this up if you're looking for:
- non-traditional regency heroine
- plenty of sex in your HR
- low stakes plot
- instalove (although the characters have known each other since they were children)
I think this would be fine as a standalone if you haven't read book one, but I think you'll appreciate it more if you read When the Duke Loved Me first (doesn't hurt that book one is even better than book two in my opinion).
I really quite enjoyed this book. This was a new author to me and I hate no issue with this not being the first in the series. I liked both the main characters but I loved the cast of character in all! Each really added to the story and we’re interesting and I would be happy reading even reading just a short novella of all them. Also her best friend had my name so of course I love that. I don’t love the brothers best friend troupe cause the age gap and then romanticizing their meetings when the heroine is very young always is kind of gross but that didn’t happen in this book and I liked that the MMC acknowledges that for there romance to work it would have happened now as she was an adult. I appreciated that she was 22 and that she was very much in to wanting to experience passion. Their first time together happens quickly and is very hot. Thank you NetGalley and to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
