An intriguing immersion into a fantastical blend of genres and tropes. Each story is unique whether in pace, tone, or progression. This one definitely exceeded my expectations, I'd be hard pressed to find fault in any of the stories throughout this collection. While some writers rely on theme and genre to build a specific sort of collection of tales, Wolfe shows up and blows the roof off one word at a time.

Wolfe is a master, as expected. Some of these stories aren't as good but many are great. A great place to start with Wolfe or for Wolfe completists.

Jump on board for an amazing journey . Gene Wolfe came to my attention when I was enthralled with his fantastic novels: The Book of The New Sun and Shadow of The Torturer .. This multi-award winning author of such gems was also a prolific producer of amazing short fiction … there is not a clunker amongst this prestigious collection of short stories, novellas, poems and emphemera … divided into eight sections and offering 41 delicious offerings. The totality of this new collection offers a glimpse into the genius of Wolfe, his genre bending explorations into the nature of the universe. This collection will serve as an excellent introduction into his genius to those who have not had the pleasure of enjoying his mesmerizing writing skills.
An amazing offering is the long novella, “Memorare”. … this garnered multiple award nominations when it was first published. The story of a film maker, March Wildspring attempting to make a documentary regarding these mysterious tombstones left in space to not always honor the departed .. but sometimes to trap unsuspecting victims into eternal bondage.
I thoroughly enjoyed the performance of Charles Constant …. with multiple voice inflection changes he was able to bring each story alive in the theatre of my mind. I truly believe that the audio version is the best way to enjoy this magnum opus. One offering seamlessly blended into the next. Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing an Advance audio version in exchange for ah honest review.

The scope of this collection is incredible. I have been a fan of Gene Wolfe for many years now and his short stories are always fantastic. Every one of the stories collected in The Wolfe at the Door are unique and compelling. I recommend this collection to any reader that loves seeing the versatility of a writer.

Wolfe takes us through some very vivid and bizarre situations, from gritty carney-esque burlesque to heaven-like nudist paradise -- and that's all in just one of the stories!
This is a very original collection for the surrealistically inclined.

The Wolf At The Door is an anthology written by Jeanne Wolf in full of lots of short stories Somerset in the past some way in the future and some or just in another alternate universe but all are very interesting I found myself quite compelled to keep listening. Each one is different and original. They had one where a boy wanted to see the circus and while watching it from a tree with a bird who is talking to his falls in love with a doll who dances. That book was interesting it was full of magic and enchantment, the head another one where a woman could raise other versions of herself so she always had spare organs but one day she raises herself who she finds so special she does the ultimate sacrifice that one included a guy name Long Tom who I loved, there’s another story where a girl literally finds an imaginary friend who actually can talk! There’s just lots of stories as I said if you love short stories in the rain to the weird horrific and all and all strange then you will definitely love this book I thought the narrator did an excellent job he did really well a character distinction and setting the tone for the story whether it be historical or present day or even an alternate universe it’s just an awesome anthology and when I highly recommend I can’t think of one story that I didn’t like. I want to thank Tantore audio IoNet Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
