So many layers upon layers are woven into this suspenseful book. The mother and daughter characters are woven with alternating narration. The suspense builds in a twisty way. Thrilling!

Made me so anxious reading! Was the perfect in between book as I’m usually a little fiction girl. Couldn’t put it down and didn’t see the twists coming!

Thank you to NetGalley, Knopf Publishing, and the author for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest feedback!

Katrina, or Kat to her friends, seemingly has it all—a loving family (mom to Cleo and wife to Aidan), a gorgeous New York brownstone house, and a successful career as a fixer at her law firm. What no one sees under her impressive facade is the deep childhood trauma she endured after her parents abandoned her and she was forced into the foster care system.

Her unstable childhood has led her to become a very controlling adult, which is terrific for her career as a fixer, but not so great as a mom or wife. She and Aidan are technically separated and heading towards a divorce, and her relationship with Cleo is rocky to say the least.

Cleo is Kat's only child, a twenty-something student at NYU, and she's finally living on her own terms without her mom micro-managing every part of her life.

During a random weekend trip back home, Cleo walks into a nightmare - with burning food on the stove, blood on the floors, and her mom nowhere to be found.

Cleo is desperate to find her mom and decides to take on the case herself. She finds a hidden journal detailing Kat's childhood, and Cleo is pulled into her dark past.

As her daughter searches for clues from the past and the present, Kat tells her story one week leading up to her disappearance. She's getting anonymous threatening messages about her secret past, her soon to be ex-husband is begging for money to fund his crappy movie-making career and she's worried about how far he'll go to get the money, her boyfriend was killed in a car crash that she doesn't think was accidental, and her high-profile legal clients are covering up something HUGE.

DNF - I attempted to start this book and it just did not hold my interest. This may be a book I come back to in the future.

Unfortunately, this book really wasn’t a good fit for me. There was way too much going on, too many storylines, and far too many red herrings. I couldn’t get behind the daughter playing detective and it took way too long for me to be invested in the story (and I can’t say I was ever invested in any character).

Thank you Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor | Knopf and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Twisty, interesting, fast paced, but with a few too many storylines converging in a rushed ending.

Katrina has vanished. Her daughter, Cleo, came to her mother's Park Slope apartment for dinner, only to find her mother gone, the food burning in the oven, and a bloody shoe under the couch. As Cleo fights to find her mother, the complicated web of lies in her life, her mother's dark past, and her father's closely held secrets are brought to the surface.

This book was entertaining, but there are a few things I don't totally understand -- mostly surrounding Katrina's inheritance. Nonetheless, this was an enjoying book and I am giving it four stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

An intriguing popcorn thriller that had me hooked from the start as a daughter discovers her estranged mother is missing. Told in a flashback and present format, secrets of all the Kat (the mother) knew and what she was involved with are uncovered. There were multiple characters that were a bit difficult to keep track of, and a couple of twists that were unexpected but not all that of a surprise, but still a compelling story showing how complex yet caring a relationship can be between a mother and daughter. 3.5 stars

Kimberly McCreight is an author whose novels I always read! This novel was a must-get, and I already bought a copy for my house. This is the story of Cleo and Kat, a mother and daughter. Cleo comes home to find out that her mother is missing and only sees a bloody shoe in her apartment. Cleo quickly finds out that her life is not what she thinks it is, as she finds out her mother is a fixer and not the innocent person she thinks she is. I don;t want to spoil anything, but the novel is AMAZING

Really enjoyed this book. Kept me guessing until the end.
Narration jumps between past and present, mother and daughter but flows smoothly. Kimberly McCreight never disappoints!

Like Mother, Like Daughter is a domestic suspense where people are not who they seem. It was fast-paced and interesting but I did struggle to keep up with all the various story lines and threads.

"Like Mother, Like Daughter" gives readers a story filled with messy family dynamics and suspenseful mystery with dark, tense storytelling. One of the things I love in domestic suspense stories is when the emotional drama is elevated, bringing with it the desire for answers and a conclusion that feels complete. This is what was missing for me. The ending just felt rushed to me and that kind of ruined the vibe for me.

Cleo hasn't always had a strained relationship with her mom but since Katrina started interfering with her life (including her sex life) Cleo has had it with her. But when her mom goes missing with blood left behind, nothing will stop Cleo from finding out what happened to her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this twisty thriller. There was a lot going on but Kimberly McCreight kept it all well organized and well written. It kept me engaged the entire time and kept me guessing until the very end.

Thank you NetGalley for this eARC!

Fast paced and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last breath taking page. A must read from a very talented author.

Strong narrative. Deepest apologies for forgetting to send this review. The timeline and character changes are always interesting for formatting. The plot was new and interesting. Thank you!

I was excited to read this book but it fell flat. The characters and plot were underdeveloped and not well thought out. Alternating POVs that jump timelines can get confusing at times. The ending felt rushed compared to the rest of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley, and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for an ARC of this book.

This was just an average thriller for me. I know a lot of people loved this book, but it just didn't do anything for me. I enjoyed the dynamic between mothers and daughters, but overall not my favorite.

Cleo, a student at NYU, is late for dinner at her childhood home in Brooklyn. The food is burning, there’s a bloody shoe and no signs of her mother, Kat. Cleo is determined to find out what happened.

This was a fasted paced thriller about the complexities of a mother and daughter relationship. Cleo and Kat didn’t have the best relationship but as Cleo investigates, she learns more about her mother and her past. It was an entertaining read with multiple POV’s, family drama and twists. It was a solid thriller.

A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight is one of my favorite BOTM thrillers from a few years back so I was excited to check out another title by the author. Another thriller taking place in NYC/Brooklyn, this is the story of a college student, Cleo, who comes to visit her mom at her childhood home in Brooklyn to find her mother missing and a bloody shoe under the sofa. Her mom on the outside appears to be always put together, a successful lawyer and part of a healthy marriage- but lies become exposed and the truth isn't what is seems.

I really enjoyed parts of this one. I'm always in the mood for a twisty, multiple POV thriller, but I also enjoyed the dynamics of the mother/daughter relationship. There were many twists and turns in the story (some a little unnecessary?) and and great pacing, but the ending was a bit lackluster considering there was so much going on. It was an entertaining read, but not particularly memorage.

It reads more like a ya fiction mystery book but it kept me interested until the end. I guessed one big aha way before the reveal but there were parts that surprised me. Some unlikeable characters and some that I liked. It didn’t make me miss being a young person though. Haha. Worth reading. Quick and kept me engaged.

This book wasnt too bad of a read, it was told with more than one POV and also involved using transcripts, news articles and also therapy sessions. You arent sure what to expect in this one and who did what and made you keep guessing what was really going to happen until the very end.
