Imagine coming home from school (the university) for dinner with your Mom, as she has summoned you. You enter the house and see blood, a shoe and no Mom. Your Mom is missing.

The world as you know it starts to spin as you work to find your Mom. The past and present clash as the mother/daughter relationship is analyzed. Mom's past is analyzed. Dad, who is getting a divorce from your Mom, is analyzed. You, often mad at your Mom, is analyzed.

The twists of whodunit are good but not strong enough to be shocked in the end. However, would still recommend it!

Like Mother, Like Daughter is a stellar thriller by Kimberly McCreight. It had the right amount of characters and activities to keep me guessing until the end. Five Stars!!!

LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER is the latest thriller from Kimberly McCreight, an author whose writing and plotting I just adore. I was so excited to receive this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publishers, Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor | Knopf.

LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER takes us on the twisty journey of Kat, successful attorney and her daughter, Cleo, an NYU student, after Kat disappears. I loved the characters in this story and really believed the growth and conflict, which added so much to my enjoyment! A few moments of dialogue and plot felt a bit unreal/hard to believe, but all in all, this book was entertaining from start to finish. I would highly recommend it to fans of McCreight and other thriller authors.

As a mood reader, I gravitated towards this book because of the title and the fact that I just found out that I'm having a daughter of my own soon. However, the mother-daughter relationship in this book is quite contentious, one that I would not like to emulate whatsoever.

The story alternates between the present day, where Cleo has discovered that her mother has disappeared under suspicious circumstances and the days before, where we learn about what Katrina had been getting involved in. Her messy separation with Cleo's dad, her personal investigation into the mysterious death of her new fling, and Cleo's drug dealer ex-boyfriend are all potential leads into where Katrina may be now.

There are also transcripts, journal entries, and legal documentation sprinkled between the chapters. The addition of these made it feel like the author was trying too hard to infuse the story with an air of mystery. I prefer for that type of atmosphere to be incorporated into the writing itself.

There were a number of red herrings thrown in, but I was able to guess the culprit before it was revealed. However, there were still unexpected elements that I didn't foresee, and this was an enjoyable reading experience overall.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

I enjoyed this one. It was a quick read. It's a thriller about a daughter who returns to her mom's house to discover her mother is missing and there's blood on the floor. The daughter begins to examine their relationship and her mother's past closely and realizes that she didn't really know her mom at all.

A race against time for a daughter to find her mother after her disappearance. Cleo’s entire vision of her mom is upended when secrets are revealed and nothing is as it seems.
Thank you #knopf and #NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed this fun thriller! It's told from two point of views-one the high powered lawyer Mom, who is now missing. Her perspective leads up to the day she goes missing. Her 20 year old daughter shares her perspective, as hers starts when her Mom goes missing. I read this quickly and could not put down. Love the NYC setting, the mother daughter-relationship, even the Mom's tragic childhood backstory that is slowly filled in as the story progresses. Not sure why I don't see more people reading this!

I couldn’t put this book down! I enjoy Kimberly McCreight’s writing, so I had to give this one a read.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is the perfect fast-paced & suspenseful novel that will have you guessing all the way up until the end. The characters were so detailed. I really enjoyed the twists, and I didn’t see the ending coming.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is a quick read that’s unlikely to leave a lasting impression.
Chloe’s estranged mother Kat is missing with only a bloody shoe to indicate something has gone wrong. Chloe starts digging in to her mother’s life and is shocked to learn she’s on dating apps and separated from her dad. But as more details are uncovered Chloe will learn that her mother isn’t as perfect as she once thought. Following alternative timelines and narratives between Kat and Chloe before and after her disappearance, the story move’s quickly. However I didn’t find the novel to be very suspenseful or thrilling as reviews promised.

This was an easy read and kept me interested. Just wasn’t super surprised by the ending. :) I would still recommend it to others.

Mother and daughter conflict and drama with a mystery.

Cleo and her mother, Kat, do not exactly get along these days. They've become estranged. Cleo chafes under Kat's controlling manipulations and she tries to escape that influence while attending college nearby. Finally agreeing to come home for dinner to discuss their relationship, Cleo finds the food burnt, blood on the floor, and her mother gone.

Although there were some interesting diversions, this is basically the usual trope where the amazing, well-meaning mother who has her daughter's safety and best interests at heart is misunderstood and treated badly by the ungrateful daughter -- who soon realizes her mother was right about everything. Along with Cleo finally realizing that mother knows best, there's some legal stuff going on as a side plot that was likely included to make the story a bit more interesting and, indeed, that whole aspect of the lawsuit and drug company coverup was far more compelling to me. The backstory about Kat's time at Haven House and the ridiculousness of the boyfriends really turned me off to the plausibility of that part of the book. In short, there was just so much going on all over the place. And, the truth was, I didn't like any of the characters. The conclusion was anticlimactic.

I was able to listen to the audiobook while following along in the e-book ARC provided by the publisher. The two female narrators did an adequate job of voicing the characters; they were certainly dramatic, when necessary, but the production would have benefited from having a male reader as well.

A solid thriller, that fans of the genre will really like! it had a lot of great twists and turns that kept me hooked and the ending was just OK. I was entertained while reading it and did enjoy it, but it just won’t be one. I remember for a long time. Nevertheless, I would still recommend it because it’s an interesting premise and fun to read!

Thank you NetGalley and Knopf!

I am not one that likes to leave bad reviews. With that being said I will not love every book I read, and it is that fact that makes reading so amazing. What may have been uninteresting to me will be the next persons top read of the year.

Like Mother, Like Daughter was far too slow and was unable to continue to carry my interest. I lost my way about halfway in and found it difficult to enjoy this mystery. Too slow, and too boring of characters for me,

A solid thriller with a twist I didn't see coming! I thoroughly enjoyed this one with merging timelines and dual POVs. Very solidly told, good character development with a fun, fast paced plot.

This book really spoke to me in a lot of ways. I have two daughters myself, and my relationship with my mother has been strained in a lot of ways. There are numerous other little things as well, but those are the two most prominent ones.

This book follows Katrina and her daughter Cleo. There are many other supporting "main" characters, but the book is told from their perspectives. There are many moving parts and key players and ideas in this book so it kept me guessing from the time Cleo found a bloody mess at her mom's when she comes over for dinner. This is a great book for someone is looking for a literal whodunit type story.

Thank you Knopf and NetGalley for the eARC of Like Mother, Like Daughter. All opinions in this review are my own.

I've read Reconstructing Amelia by the same author years ago and really liked it so I was looking forward to reading this thriller. Unfortunately, Like Mother, Like Daughter was a miss for me. I felt like there were almost too many red herrings in it so that when the truth was finally revealed, it didn't have the shock factor it should have because there wasn't enough to tie it to the story.

This was a pretty good book and I enjoyed it. The end felt a little anticlimactic, if just felt like there could be so much more. However, I was hooked from beginning to end!

I thought this book might be like Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter. In the synopsis, the daughter is uncovering her mother’s secret life after she disappears. But the similarities between the two books don’t go too much further than that. It is a really fun thriller and mystery, though.

I often got annoyed at Clio, the daughter, with how she acts towards her mom. But maybe that’s just because I’m a mom 😆. And maybe for that same reason is why I liked Katrina the mother.

I felt like as soon as I started this book, I was sucked in, and I hated having to put it down. I loved that besides dual POVs, there were dual timelines (including old diary entries), plus transcripts of Clio’s sessions with a psychologist, and case notes from a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company. With so many possible suspects and angles, it wasn’t exactly an easy one to solve.

Overall, a fun read to keep you on your toes.
