Missing person mystery wrapped in the complicated relationship of a mother and daughter. A lot of subplots but it kept me guessing until the end. Always a bonus in a mystery!

Couldn’t put it down. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!

Kimberly McCreight is always a winner for me! This one did not disappoint. This is a dual narration as you are reading through Kat's point of view prior to a disappearance and Cleo's point of view after a disappearance., There are a lot of moving parts which kept me intrigued and curious until the very end. Highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for the ARC of this book.

Like Mother, Like Daughter felt like a very middle of the road mystery/thriller. This is the only instance where I felt like the mixed media did not add to the overall story. I understand that stories need to throw readers off the main trail with other storylines, but there was so much going on it just felt muddled and confusing.

I need someone to root for in any story. There wasn't a single person in this book that I liked or cared for even a little. There was little to no character development and that's probably why they weren't very likeable. I know this book will definitely be for someone, it's just not for me.

This was an entertaining book, just didn’t love the ending. Some chapters were short and it made it a quick read.

This is a pretty run of the mill thriller. I liked Kimberly McCreight's previous book better than this one.

Thank you to Knopf, the author, and Netgalley for this advanced readers copy of Kimberly McCreight's Like Mother, Like Daughter. I really enjoyed this book. The basic plot: a college student arrives home from NYU to see her mother, but finds an oven with food bruning, and no signs of her mother, but blood on the floor. From there you can guess where it is going. What happened to Katrina (the mom)? Was she the victim of a violent crime? The daughter (Chloe) find out that all is not well with her parent's relationship, and her dad has moved out. I'll leave the plot to your own discovery, as I don't enjoy reviews which spoil the story. But want to focus on the approach the author uses. The book ait used a variety of plot devices such as alternating characters, as well as telling the story leading up to the the disappearance (?) of Katrina in reverse. The reader needs to stay focused, as each chapter is at a different point in the story, but it all makes sense. What I enjoyed the most was trying to figure out the title. Why "like mother, like daughter?" In the end, that makes sense too. All in all a solid read and enjoyable book.

"Like Mother, Like Daughter" is an intense roller coaster ride of emotions and suspense. The complex mother-daughter relationship will take you through a whirlwind of feelings as the story unravels into a shocking conclusion.

This is the second book I've read by Kimberly McCreight, and I was so engrossed I couldn't put it down, finishing it in just two sittings, staying up way past my bedtime to keep reading! The author expertly weaves in clever misdirections that had me off in the wrong direction, completely blindsided by the real clues. I particularly enjoyed mother Kat and daughter Cleo's dual timelines and different perspectives. Kat, a secretive woman with a mysterious past, a misleading job, and Cleo's secrets and risky decisions kept me eagerly turning pages.

This novel will resonate with anyone who has experienced the struggles of navigating a tumultuous mother-daughter relationship.

Sincere thanks to the author and Knopf for this gifted ARC received via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight follows Cleo as she investigates the strange disappearance of her mother, Kat. This pair was on the fritz as they were trying to navigate their mother-daughter relationship. Kat has been keeping secrets from Cleo, secrets that could get them both killed. When Cleo comes home to hear her mother’s explanations, she finds a shoe in a puddle of blood and no sign of her mother. As Cleo delves deeper into the investigation, she uncovers family secrets that threaten to tear her world apart.

This book is perfect for those looking for some trouble to get into. What could go wrong when a college kid tries to investigate her mother’s disappearance alone? Only exactly what you’d expect and more!

Overall, this was a gripping read that I'd recommend to thriller enthusiasts, especially those who enjoy stories of family secrets and betrayal. Thank you Knopf for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Cleo returns to her hometown to visit her mother,
Kat . They don't have the best relationship. Cleo thinks her mom is too controlling. Kat believes she is protecting Cleo by keeping secrets. When Cleo shows up at the house, her mom is missing. We follow both mother and daughter pov, one before Iat went missing and the other of present day Cleo searching for clues. This was a great mystery with a twist. I loved the complex mother daughter dynamic. It kept me guessing until the end.

Cleo and her mom have been at odds for a while, but when she returns home for a family dinner and find no sign of her mom she knows something is wrong. Over the last few years Cleo has been reveling, seeing a drug dealer and making drops for him and she pushes back harder every time her mom mentions that she needs to get out. Her mom on the other hand appears to be the straight laced essence of perfection with her strong marriage and solid job as a corporate lawyer, but as Cleo starts to dig into her moms life in her search to find her before it’s too late she realizes not everything is as is seems. Will Cleo be able to unravel the past quick enough to find her mom before it’s too late or have something terrible already happened to her?

I really enjoyed this book and the way it was laid out. The story was really thought out and unfolded in a way that gave you just enough of the story at a time that made it impossible to put down. I’m not of a cozy mystery fan, but I found myself really enjoying this mystery thriller. The story was told in two timelines and it kept the story interesting as we saw what Cleo was discovering in real time and then flashbacks to what her mom experiences in the last few days before her disappearance. I was hooked on this book from the beginning and didn’t see the ending coming. I loved the twists and turns and thought this story played out nicely. If you are looking for a good thriller mystery read with perfectly timed twists and turns and a great ending this book is a good one to try!

This was a great book. I was pulled into it immediately and loved the drama that followed. The plot was unique and not something I'd ever read before. That being said, I did call the ending and kind of saw it coming which lowered my rating to a four star. Overall, it was so much fun and I'd definitely recommend it

Convoluted mess.

Sadly, McCreight tried too hard. There were too many turns with no twists. I was reminded of a Rubik's Cube -- millions tried to work it and only a few did. I think the author worked this story out, unfortunately she was in a small group.

The Adult Genre I find misleading; once again at best YA. The childish bantering dialogue and the truly foul language adds to the chaos unfavorably.

A fast paced thriller! There are tons of twists and turns as the Cleo tries to solve the mystery of her mother's disappearance. Cleo has had a pretty rocky relationship with her mother over the years, she can't stand how Kat has been over protective and at times over bearing. She's been reluctant to connect with her mom since getting out of her most recent relationship but finally relents. When she comes home, she finds signs of her mother's sudden disappearance. Burnt food in the oven and on the stove, slight water ring left on the counter and her mom's shoe, with a small trace of blood. Suddenly, Cleo is caught up in uncovering the truth about her mother while trying to juggle her own personal problems. A fantastic read!

Kat and Aiden McHugh have been married for some years now. Kat is a partner in a law firm and makes good money. Aiden has always been involved in making movies on the environment. They are parents to Cleo who is now in college. Aiden was always away when Kat was struggling with motherhood and since then that is what he does. He’s very laid back about the fact that Kat is the one who makes the money and has backed many of his movie attempts. Their marriage is now on the rocks and Aiden lives elsewhere. In addition, Kat has been looking on dating sights.

Kat and Cleo have not always seen eye-to-eye on things. Cleo thinks Kat is too bossy. So Cleo rarely comes home from her nearby college dorm. When Kat learns that Cleo may be involved in delivering drugs to people, she asks her to come home so they can talk. Reluctantly, Cleo agrees. But when Cleo arrives, she finds her mother not at home but with food cooking that is starting to burn. She also discovers blood on the floor. She runs to her neighbor who gets her father to come home. Cleo is shocked to find that her father’s clothes aren’t in the closets as she didn’t realize they had separated. Now, the police are active on the case and working to find out what happened to Kat.

Where is Kat and what happened to her? It turns out that Kat had been involved in some shady work at her law firm leaving her an obvious target for anyone wanting to get even with her. Could she have been abducted?

Both Kat and Cleo are stubborn women who tend to butt heads. Perhaps that means they are more alike than they think. I cannot say that I enjoyed this book as it jumped from one sub-plot to the next and was confusing. Hope others will find it more interesting.

A family thriller that is dual perspective and dual timeline that takes us through the complicated mother daughter relationship. Kat goes missing while trying to protect Cleo, and the complicated relationship begins to unravel. We learn about Kat’s past as she has completely 360 degree turned her direction in life. But, one must remember that 360 brings us all full circle. Thanks to NetGalley for the read!
