Bookish thoughts: As some of you know, I have three daughters so the title, Like Mother, Like Daughter immediately captured my attention! I paired the book with audio which enhanced the story for me. I enjoyed all the multi media formatting the author included in the novel. My only complaint was the timeline which was a bit confusing for me and a mediocre conclusion. Read this if you enjoy emotional suspenseful stories, family drama, and mother/daughter relationships.
I received an advanced electronic copy from publisher Knopf books and Netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview this book.

When Kat disappears, we dive into a classic mystery tale with some surprising twists. The story is packed with layers that sometimes overshadow the main plot. Kat's daughter is tangled up in some shady business, dating a drug dealer.
Meanwhile, Kat's marriage to Aidan is falling apart. To make things messier, Kat's secret lover suddenly dies. Overall, it's an interesting read, though a bit overwhelming at times.
The ending, however, is somewhat lackluster and had so much more potential!

Many of us have that addiction to picking up books, but it sometimes takes something special to not be able to put it down - this was an example of that! It comes as no surprise that there is a dynamic mother, daughter relationship in this that shows true depth and acceptance that our mothers are people outside of just our mothers. When we discover the secrets they may have been keeping from us…
This is the type of book to have you saying “one more chapter” before bed, getting to the end of the chapter, and deciding you just HAVE to keep reading because you just need to know the answers the book is posing for you. I was hooked!

This one was really good. At first, it seems like it may become a little hard to follow with the time jumps but it is extremely easy and makes the story that much more exciting to see. How everything unfolds is done beautifully and the mother/daughter relationship is portrayed in a very realistic way.

“Every daughter is a monster in her own special way”
Cleo is a young woman studying a NYU. She has her whole life ahead of her. A loving father, a semi-emotionally unavailable mother, friends, and a loving boyfriend. Cleo loves her life, but Cleo hates her mother. At least, she thinks she does until her mother suddenly goes missing and she is thrown into investigating just what happened to her. The search for her mother will lead her down roads she didn’t think possible and will also show her, she didn’t really know her mother at all.
This book was a slow burn from the start, at least for me. It took me about 100 pages in to feel like I was hooked. I think where I struggled with was with Cleo. The absolutely awful way Cleo treated her mother was really had for me to move past. I understand, that often times we feel our parents don’t “get us” or they try to make our lives difficult for “no reason”, but I feel like Cleo was a completely emotionally immature character. I personally did not feel connected to her and I did not feel like there was much character development with her. She was the sore spot of this book for me. Kat on the other hand I totally loved her. I felt like her character developed from what seems like a corporate mom with no time for “feelings” to a mother who is so deeply misunderstood and is constantly trying to protect the ones she loves. The ending felt rushed and wish I learned more about what happened with the neighbor.
Thank you @NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the chance to read this ARC!

3.5 rounded up. The story was told from dual POVs - Mom Katrina & daughter Cleo. I liked how the story unraveled. I didn't particularly care for the side plot. It seemed unconnected throughout most of the story. I did see the connection at the end, but it took a long time to get there.
There were lots of twists and turns and quite a few red herrings. There were so many characters that I started getting confused. Overall, this was an interesting story that dragged on a little too long.

3.5 stars, this was a good mystery. I think many readers would enjoy this twisted story.
I could not stand Cleo's early chapters, she came across SO entitled and, frankly, ANNOYING AF. Later on she became way more tolerable but it took a lot of eye-opening moments and secrets revealed for her to get there.
I loved the dual timeline aspect of this: Katrina's chapters count down towards when she goes missing and Cleo's chapters count up from the moment she discovers her mother is missing. There is a bit of mixed media too with therapy transcripts and some of the legal documents and news stories. They added little to the story but a couple (like the news stories about Darden) were necessary information.
Overall I enjoyed this read (once getting past Cleo's initial chapters).

Being brutally honest here, I disliked Cleo, one of the main characters, very much from the start. She is the typical embodiment of doing wrong by your mother and making her feel like trash for NO REASON. This probably played into why I lost interest in this book early on. I did however power through and enjoyed the twist, though, It’s been done many times before and wasn’t grand enough for me to want to change my opinion in the story after not being able to connect with the main character. This one just wasn’t for me but you may enjoy if you like thrillers and are okay with the daughter - mother dilemma.
Thank you to Knopf for an advanced reader’s copy of this title via NetGalley.

I really enjoyed this book! It’s a bingeable book with a lot of depth. I loved the alternating POVs and timelines. It made the story more suspenseful and interesting. However, I did guess some of the twists towards the end.

The writing style was multiple POVs and some texts that you don't know who is the author. A mom is missing, a daughter who has been in trouble and has a shady boyfriend and a husband who desperately needs money. Who is the most likely suspect? The story plays out with the daughter investigating her mom's life and really finding out who her mom is and was. The ending wrapped all the questions up nicely and it did has a bit of a twist at the end.

This is a fast paced story about a complex relationship between mother and daughter and what happens when the mother goes missing!
The story unfolds in dual points of view between past and present timelines. As Cleo tries to find answers to her mom's disappearance, she discovers that her mother has a dark past and many secrets: Intriguing!
Like Mother, Like Daughter is a fast-paced thriller that kept me turning the pages. 4 stars!
A big thank you to Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

The book had me hooked and I read it in one day. It does a great job of describing the complexity of a mother daughter relationship.

I'm all about a mother-daughter thriller and there have been more of them since Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter. Like Mother Like Daughter takes place in Brooklyn, where a mom and daughter's relationship is a bit frayed when mom Kat does not really approve of daughter Cleo's boyfriend. They agree to talk it out, but when Cleo arrives, dinner is on the stove, but her mom is missing.
I've read and enjoyed Kim McCreight's books in the past, and she doesn't disappoint here. The Brooklyn setting is fun and the book keeps you interested and guessing!

Kimberly McCreight's "Like Mother, Like Daughter" centers around the troubled relationship between a mother and her daughter. When Cleo (reluctantly) arrives at her mother's for dinner, she finds her missing. What follows is a compelling, if at times convoluted, story that switches perspectives and timelines. The reader hears from Cleo in the present as she searches for her mother, and from her mother in the few weeks leading up to her disappearance. The novel’s initial tension and character development are promising, but the story soon became muddled and I found the ending to be largely disappointing, failing to provide a satisfying resolution to the buildup. I really enjoyed McCreight's 2020 release, A Good Marriage, and would recommend starting there if you're new to her books.

4 stars. Another superb book from the author! The book had me hooked and I read it in one day. It does a great job of describing the complexity of a mother daughter relationship.

I always enjoy the stories of Kimberly McCreight, and this book did not disappoint.
Mom Kat and daughter Cleo appear polar opposites. But when Kat goes missing, Cleo realizes maybe they are more alike than she thought. Great mystery and family drama.

a bit disturbing and yet unsatisfying. the ending was a bit rushed and i felt like there could have been more development in certain aspects of the backstory

Book Review: LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to @netgalley for this ARC.
This is my first Kimberly McCreight book and it was fabulous.
Cleo is a student at NYU. Her and her mother, Kat are not on the best of terms. One day her mother “summons” her to dinner. Her mother lives in Brooklyn. When she gets o her mother’s house she is not there but the oven is on. The chicken has burned and the green beans are on the counter. Cleo finds some blood on the floor as she is looking for her mom and she also finds her bloody show under the couch. As Cleo tries to find out what has happened to her mom she realizes she does not know her mom. Her mom has been lying to her all these years as she is not really who she says she is. Cleo found out days before her disappearance Kat had been receiving threats.
What a great twisted, chaotic, emotional and suspenseful thriller this book was.
There are dual timelines one 8 days before Kat‘s disappearance which shows the reader the events that occurred prior to her disppearance. The second starts when Cleo finds her mother missing and she is now searching for her.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. What I really liked is even though Cleo and mother do not get along, Cleo will do anything to find her mother because it is her mother.

Not since "Gone Girl" I have I torn through the pages of a book like this! Cleo, a student at NYU, reluctantly comes home for dinner at the request of her mother, with whom she has a tenuous relationship. She finds dinner burning in the oven and her mother, Kat is nowhere to be found. Then Cleo finds one of her mother's shoes under the sofa., bloodied. Something is definitely wrong.
Kat is missing. Who would want to harm her? She is a respected corporate lawyer with a loving husband, or so Cleo thought. It seems that both mother and daughter have been keeping secrets. Sometimes we know the least about those closest to us. But with all this misinformation or gaps in knowledge, will Kat be found alive?
Told from multiple POVs,
My thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor
