This was a quick read for me, twisty yet somehow predictable. I had higher hopes for this book but despite that, it was still entertaining. I liked the multiple POV. Thanks for the ARC

This was an exciting unique thriller that had two point of views. The author did a good job of keeping each of the perspectives different even though the Cleo and Kat found out they might be more similar than they thought. I liked Cleo’s point of view more and loved when she found out more about her mother and everyone else around her. I love her character development.

This one took me a minute to get into. Theres time jumps, multiple POV’s, and seemingly random excerpts in between chapters; it’s just a lot at first. Once you get into the flow of the story and have a handle on who the characters are though it’s a good story with multiple threads. The relationship between Kat, the mother, and Cleo, the daughter, was particularly well written. While not a particularly original trope; secrets in the mother’s life causing her overprotectiveness which leads to annoyance and rebellion on the daughter’s part, McCreight wrote it so perfectly. The moments where the veil drops and Cleo realizes Kat is a whole person outside of just being her mom are so perfectly crafted to not just move the plot along but offer genuine character development. This one definitely kept me guessing at not only who did something to Kat but also what they did and why. I wasn’t expecting the ending at all though and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks to NetGalley and Knopf for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be published July 9, 2024.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. The book opens strong, with Cleo discovering her mother Kat is missing.
Told from different perspectives and in different timelines, we learn Kat is a “fixer” in her company. Her relationship with her daughter is strained and she’s in the midst of a divorce.
There are multiple plot lines involving a drug company, Kat’s past and tying to get a movie made so there are multiple suspects. But I felt like there were too many subplots. I was surprised by the ending though.

The NetGalley version of this book just really did not translate. I couldn’t read any of the chapters with text messages and when you take that out, nothing really feels connected. I’ll try the book again when it’s out in a regular copy.

This was so much fast paced twisty fun! I wasn’t sure if the angsty Cleo was going to drive me insane but McCreight built a lot of depth into the character to get me past that issue. I couldn’t put this down!!

This is a great thriller that grabbed me right from the start! This story is told in multiple voices and there is a lot going on throughout this book. Sometimes it was a little confusing as there are so many subplots within the main plot. There are lots of twist and turns and a few things I didn’t see coming! This really digs into the relationships between mother and daughter. This is my first book by this author, but I will surely read more by her.

I really enjoyed this book! The writing was great, pacing was perfect. I suspected everyone at one point. I had a suspicion of what happened but it truly kept me on my toes. I think this was really well done and would definitely recommend!

Fans of first person twisty-thrillers will take delight in this one told from the two perspectives of a mother and her daughter. The mom, with her many dark secrets, goes missing. The daughter, with secrets of her own, can't help but try to sleuth out what happened to her mother. Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for a review.

Kat and Cleo have a complicated relationship but are committed to protecting each other. This fast-paced thriller is both dual timeline and dual narrator and takes place in the Park Slope that McCreight centers her stories in. Overall, I think this would be a fun pool-side read for summer. It has enough going on to keep you guessing, but the writing and storyline is still easy to follow. I especially enjoyed the sub-plots related to Kat's job. With that said, I didn't feel much emotional pull for any of the characters. I wish that we could have gone deeper into Cleo's character and her overall headspace could have been darker. I enjoy KM's writing very much, and am still looking for something that will break my heart the way Reconstructing Amelia did.

I went in thinking this was going to be a typical domestic thriller, and I came out having experienced so much more. The exploration of the complexity of mother-daughter relationships was fantastic. The plot has so many layers, so many things happening, it will keep you hooked. I loved the structure of POVs and timelines. I really felt for the characters and was rooting for them to succeed. The twists and building suspense was paced well. There’s a vast dark web of secrets all vying to explode in the finale. I will definitely read from this author again in the future. I can see this being a very popular release for the year.

It took me longer than usual for me to read this novel despite the fast pacing. I think the two voices in alternate times of the story along with so many side characters and subplots kept me confused and not clear on what was what. I had to keep re-reading places to sort out who was who. The best friend and the neighbors names were distinct enough for me to separate them and at one point they both had places in the scene almost overlapping and I missed that one person exited and another person entered who were different.
All that to say, the mother/daughter relationship is the key to why this story worked. I was so baffled to think that a daughter could not talk to her mother for several months at that age but the more I thought about it... the dad was enabling this to work.
With that said... there are very few "good" people in this story and so it does get a little hard to root for the "good guy".... I liked this story but it was really bogged down between chapters with court transcripts, diary entries, notes on therapy sessions and they added almost nothing to the story.
4 stars for the relationship and intense pacing
3 stars for the lack of cohesive plot
2 stars for not a lot of likable characters
Over all 3;5 stars.

Like Mother, Like Daughter was a wild ride and I am here for it! I was in the mood for a fast paced thriller and this one did not disappoint. I went into it fairly blind and I highly recommend doing that. I have only read one other book by Kimberly McCreight but I will be adding her to my tbr in the future!
If you are looking for a fast paced, psychological, multi-POV thriller I cannot recommend Like Mother, Like Daughter enough!

Kimberly McCreight does it again. In "Like Mother Like Daughter," McCreight weaves a gripping narrative that delves deep into the complexities of mother-daughter relationships. Through alternating perspectives, she masterfully explores the nuances of familial bonds, secrets, and the enduring quest for truth.
The story unfolds with a compelling blend of suspense and emotional depth, drawing readers into the lives of Kat and her daughter, Cleo. As they navigate the aftermath of a shocking event, their journey unravels layers of deception and uncovers buried secrets, challenging their perceptions of love, loyalty, and identity.
McCreight's writing is immersive, capturing the intricacies of human emotion with empathy. The characters are flawlessly crafted, each carrying their own burdens and vulnerabilities, yet bound together by an unbreakable bond. As a mother myself, I felt pulled into Kat's story and the lengths we will go to protect our children, and yet, as a daughter, I felt pulled into Cleo's story and how what feels like overprotection can push us away. I was torn between how much I related to both mother and daughter, and McCreight wrote in such a way that you found ways to relate to each character.
At its core, "Like Mother Like Daughter" is a thought-provoking exploration of the ties that bind us and the lengths we'll go to protect the ones we love. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end---I definitely recommend!
Thank you NetGalley for the advance review copy!

Thank you so much to Alfred A. Knopf Publishing and Netgalley for this advanced reader copy of Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight.
McCreight is know for her smart, domestic suspense novels set in her hometown of Park Slope. In this story Cleo’s mother, Katrina, who she shares a difficult relationship with, has disappeared from the family home. Foul play is suspected, and the more Cleo digs into her mother’s disappearance, the more she realizes how little she actually knew about her life.
There is A LOT happening in this story. I actually really enjoyed the main mystery (especially the ending), but there was a second and even third mystery in the novel they really muddied things up with too many side characters. I think I’ve really come to appreciate simplicity in this genre, and you won’t find that here.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book started off slowly. I thought it was a bit jumbled at first. I struggled trying to figure out who was connected to who. Once it got going, it got better, although it remained slightly muddled. The boyfriend character, Kyle, was an interesting twist that was designed to keep you thinking about him as the "boyfriend" the police wanted to discuss.

This the first book I read from Kimberly McCreight. I read this through NetGally and I am glad I requested this. I loved this book. It was so well thought out and expertly written. The main mystery was great but the complexity if a mother daughter relationship was so well explored.
Things were complicated through the entire book and the way the daughter starts to find out who her mother is, was so captivating. There were moments when you understood the daughter and there were moments you understood and stood with the mom. So so good.
The murder mystery kept twisting and turning and I loved it. There were moments I was convinced I knew who it was or what happened and only to find out sometimes I was half right. So many shocking turns I did not see coming but they were done so well, there were zero eye rolls. I didn't feel like things where solved with a pretty little bow but it was satisfying. Things were messy and all the way to the end and I loved it because that's how life is. Will be picking up more books from this author.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is told in different timelines, one pov, follows Cleo in real time, looking for her mother, and the other pov follows Kat in the time leading up to her disappearance. I liked the book, but during the second half of the book it got hard to keep track of characters.

Like Mother Like Daughter was a very fast paced novel and I really enjoyed it. Right off the bat, it pulled me in and had me guessing all throughout to the very end. I was able to guess the plot twist but nevertheless, it was enjoyable! I gave it four stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review the book!
