This is book is told in multiple POV's; Cleo who is a college student and her mother Kat who is a lawyer, or so everyone thinks. Kat begs Cleo to come home so they can talk as they have a very stressed relationship. Cleo reluctantly agrees but when she arrives home her mother is no where to be found. There is food cooking and s bloody shoe on the ground, what happened? Cleo calls her dad to come help only to discover that her parents have been separated for months and they never told her. One unraveled truth leads to another and a another... could all this hidden information lead Cleo to her mother?
Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC!
I’ll be honest, I was so so so excited for this book because I like those of McCreight’s other books that I’ve read, but this one just wasn’t as riveting for me. The characters were annoying, the story was predictable, and I just felt like it wasn’t much of anything new. Thank you to Knopf & NetGalley for sending me a copy of the e-book in exchange for a review.
The beginning scenes of the book hooked me, and I enjoyed some of the twists and turns - not knowing who to trust along the way. I never really felt fully invested in the characters themselves, and I don't really like the jumpy timeline as a personal preference. Overall, a good, fast read!
I gave Like Mother Like Daughter four stars because it’s an engaging and emotional read that delves into the complexities of mother-daughter relationships, family secrets, and the lasting effects of trauma. From the first page, the story pulled me in with its gripping plot and well-developed characters.
The author does a great job of weaving together past and present, giving readers insight into both the mother’s and daughter’s perspectives. I loved how the dual timelines revealed key moments from their lives, gradually uncovering the truth behind their strained relationship. The pacing was steady, with just enough tension to keep me turning the pages, and the twists, while somewhat predictable at times, were satisfying enough to hold my interest.
We picked this as our book club read and it was good. A bit predictable but that was ok. Cleo was a bit of a headache but she had growth because of that.
Great mystery with lots of twists and turns. A tad bit predictable but that’s not always a bad thing. Quick read if you’re looking for a fun stress free book.
Rating: 3 stars!
How far with a mother go for her daughter? How far can you push a mother's love before it breaks? This book explores the depths of a mother/daughter relationship in a mystery "thriller" setting.
Thank you NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 rounded up!
I received this as an ARC & put it off because like most of us our “problem” is that our TBR list keeps growing (terrible problem to have ha). Well my great friend Neils was reading it so I figured it was a great time/excuse for a buddy-read & to finally see what this book had to offer.
Initially I actually was on the fence of not finishing this book. Don’t get me wrong the beginning actually started off immediately with some great drama, but then I initially just wasn’t super impressed with Chloe’s character (Kat’s daughter). I’m glad I kept with it though because once I got into the story it kept my interest all the way through! For the most part the twists were totally unexpected for me, until towards the end where some things were obvious but overall I did not expect where the author was headed as far as who the main villain was. It wasn’t blow me out of the water amazing but it was an entertaining read, and very well written. I’d definitely recommend Like Mother, Like Daughter to fellow suspense fans & I’d love to read more by McCreight 🤗
Thanks so much to NetGalley & the publisher Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor !!
I love Kimberly McCreight’s writing and storytelling. The complicated mother-daughter relationships that weave throughout her mysteries are so enthralling. 10/10 plot for this one though!
This book is nothing like Reconstructing Amelia, which is a 5 star book. Too many characters to keep track of and the amount of texting, journaling, interviews and documents added unnecessary pages to the story. It would have been a better story if told from the beginning of the mother's time at the home. That part of the story would have leant some drama and appropriate background to the story line.
Excellent mystery. I loved the premise and the surprises throughout. Great character building and plot development. Always love McCreight
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted eARC.
I loved this book! The characters were well rounded, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I definitely recommend this one!

Like Mother, Like Daughter is a very interesting story that comes full circle in the end. There is a great representation of life between teenage / YA women and their mothers especially if they are similar in nature.
•
There was a great mix of characters. Some were likable others were not, some were a bit shocking and others not so much. I was really not a huge fan of Cleo through the majority of the story, but I have to give her credit for a bunch of character growth. I also loved McCreight’s use of a strained relationship between a mother and daughter; I think that will hit home for a lot of women.

This is a steady to fast paced with multiple twists that had my head spinning. I did not see that ending coming but I absolutely love where McCreight went with the story. I was pretty shocked when I finished this one. I think that people will really enjoy the ending.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and this is one I would recommend to my thriller friends. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Kimberly McCreight and Knopf for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another good one from Kimberly McCreight. This had alternating narrators and timelines and kept me on my toes. I did suspect the “bad guy” fairly early on, but didn’t know the actual “big reveal.” Was. Lots of tension and suspense that kept me turning pages!
this was goooooood y’all, I could not put it down. I think this is my third book by McCreight and probably my second favorite? I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by her though. I always appreciate when a thriller can do something different since it’s such an oversaturated genre and this definitely felt more unique. it was a pretty good twist that I didn’t start to suspect until like 75% through. towards the end everything started to feel a bit too farfetched and there were so many plot points/loose threads that started to feel too all over the place, but overall this was a solid thriller that I definitely recommend! thanks to @netgalley for the gifted digital copy stars ✨
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review "Like Mother, Like Daughter." I found this book to be so-so. Not terrible, but not the greatest. I didn't feel as drawn into the story as other thriller novels. That is not to say that I wouldn't recommend it to people who like this genre. It has a well made plot, with multiple story lines that keep you wondering what happened? A decent thriller.
Thank you NetGalley for access to this book! It was a quick read and something I would highly recommend for a book club pick. It was a little predictable at times, but I still found myself unable to put it down. It is a low stress, easy to read style book that makes for the perfect suspenseful distraction from life.
This one was a super quick read! It was a bit predictable but I don't necessarily mind that because it makes for a low stress ready.
This book was excellent and one of my top reads! If you love suspense than you will definitely love this book.
Cleo is a student at NYU, and struggling through a strained relationship with her mother Kat. Kat wants what’s best for Cleo, and the only reason for her fight with Cleo is due to Cleo’s bad relationship choices in men. Kat invites Cleo to dinner in hopes of mending their relationship, but when Cleo gets to the house, there is food burning on the stove, Kat is nowhere to be found, and there’s a bloody shoe in her office. Cleo is confused, which increases when her dad shows up and is acting really weird. Cleo also noticed her father’s clothes are no longer in her parent’s bedroom. Kat has been lying, she’s not just a lawyer she’s a fixer for her firm working on a serious case. Growing up in a dangerous group home, Kat has left that part of her life a secret from Cleo. Kat has a lot of secrets and one of those is what really happened at that group home. Not only that hasn’t told Cleo that her marriage has essentially fallen apart, but not that she’s missing some of those secrets may come out. Cleo will stop at nothing to find her mother and uncover what is really going on between her parents and her mothers disappearance,
