Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for the opportunity to review this ARC.
There was a lot going on in this book from differing points of views as well as unnamed texts, and other snippets that provided clues. Some of these transcripts and messages were confusing but began to make sense as the story progressed.
Kat and Cleo have a strained mother and daughter relationship. When Kat goes missing, Cleo steps forward to search for her mother. I liked the characterization of both characters, and how they grew despite their flaws.

After enjoying a few of Kimberly McCreight’s earlier novels, I was excited to receive an advance copy of her new one, Like Mother, Like Daughter which is set to be released in July of 2024. This was a fast paced, multi pov story about a missing woman and her daughter’s race to learn what happened.
When Cleo, a student at NYU, visits her estranged mother Kat in Brooklyn one afternoon she walks in on an unexpected scene. Her mother is gone but she finds a bloody shoe, dinner in the oven and her father nowhere to be found. Cleo and Kat have had their issues in the past, but when Cleo starts to uncover clues to her mother’s disappearance, she jumps into action to discover who her mother really is and what has been going on in her life.
This is a solid thriller, with lots of twists and turns, and I enjoyed it a lot. Will definitely recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf for my gifted ARC.

Katrina and Cleo have a fairly strained mother/daughter relationship. Katrina is a high-powered attorney, tasked with "fixing" situation for her firm's clients, and Cleo is a student at NYU who recently got out of a relationship with drug-dealing boyfriend, Kyle. Cleo feels that Katrina is too controlling and involved in her life and has pumped the breaks on their relationship. When she reluctantly agrees to meet up with her mom, she enters her childhood home to find a mess of blood and disarray, but no signs of Katrina. A flurry of secrets from Katrina's past are kicked up as Cleo searches for her missing mother.
This book took me a long time to get into, and a very long time to finish. There were so many characters and backstories that it was hard to keep track. Especially because most of the backstories ended up not making much of a difference in the overall plot. I wish the author had tied up all of the ends in a way that was more meaningful, or left some of the details out altogether.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest feedback.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is Kimberly McCreight’s latest. I am so, so lucky that I was given a chance to read this as an Advanced Reader’s copy. Thank you NetGalley and Alfred A. Knopf for this opportunity.

This very intricate book marks a remarkable and somewhat tumultuous relationship between a mother and daughter. Katrina is a successful attorney who does somewhat questionable things as a “fixer” at her firm. She is going through a divorce from her husband, who is a dreamer of sorts never really holding down a job, and considering himself a movie maker, but his movies are never sold. They together have a 19 year old college daughter, Cleo.

Kat goes missing one evening after convincing her daughter to come home for dinner. Cleo is late as often and grumbly about going. When she gets there, there is some blood on the ground and no sign of Kat.

The story switches perspectives from Kat to prior to her going missing, to Cleo at the time her mom is missing and after. In between, are snippets of texts and other clues of what has happened in Kay’s past and what is currently happening in her life.

The story line is unforgettable, there are so many reasons Kat could be missing. The reader gets a full back story to a major case Kat is working on, other characters she’s helped out, her soon to be ex husband, And the biggest secret from her past growing up in a group home for kids without parents.

All of the storylines and plot were woven together so well and the ending was explosive and not what I was thinking at all. It all made sense. This is not a book that I ended thinking “that could never happen.”

I absolutely loved every page. Extremely clever, engaging and a wild, thrilling ride.

I would highly recommend this one. I have read and given all of McCreight’s books high ratings but this one is the best yet.

I found the story line extremely hard to keep track of. The back and forth in time, then adding in all the other factors was confusing for me and I had to keep going back. The story itself was very interesting and well written. Kimberly McCreight can write a unique book!

I thought this book was enjoyable, however, a lot was going on at one time. At times it was hard to follow, especially with the duel POVs. I'm glad I continued reading. It was cool to see how the storylines came together.

Like Mother, Like Daughter was a solid thriller. It was full of twists and turns. While I was able to guess one of the major plot twists, there were others that took me by surprise. Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Cleo arrives home to find her mom missing. He and her mom have their differences, this book was intriguing

Cleo is back home for dinner with her mom cat, but finds the house slightly messy which is unusual and there is some blood as well but no sign of her mom. This starts off an investigation for her missing mom who everyone thought was simply a lawyer, but she’s also good at her actual profession that she kept a complete secret. This investigation brings light to the problems between her parents and the truth of their relationship, along with some secrets that her father kept nicely guarded. But Cleo has clearly got her curiosity and investigative genes from her mother and now she’s on the path to uncover the whole story and find her mom in spite of their messy relationship.

It is definitely the kind of plot that would keep the readers engaged all the way till the end and also maintains fantastic pace. There are a few characters in the book that keep popping up suddenly, which kind of threw me into a loop as I expected more development of these characters. I enjoyed the twists and turns and though the ending twist was slightly expected, it left me slightly unsatisfied. Overall, I definitely enjoyed the suspense and I recommend it to all the thriller lovers.

I liked the suspense in figuring out how the different storylines connected. It was a bit hard to follow the combination of texts and court documents but did add an element of mystery. I liked the element of mother and daughter connection so it went a bit beyond just a mystery and into the relationships between family members.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my fourth book by McCreight and my favorite so far. This story is told in alternating points of view and flashabacks/timelines between mother, Kat, and daughter Cleo. The two have a tumultuous relationship at best. As the story unravels, we learn more about Kat's past and how that has impacted her mothering and thus her relationship with her daughter. Kat disappears and there are so many reasons why she could have disappeared. Her high profile law job, where she is really a corporate "fixer" becomes dangerous when her boyfriend is murdered for his role in trying to help reveal the wrongdoings his employer, Darden pharmaceuticals, tries to cover up. But, her past, which was harder than anyone in her life understands, is also starting to catch up with her. On top of that, her husband, who she is separated from, wants her money to help bail him out of a jam.

Cleo, despite her relationship with her mom, is adamant that she help find her mom. She discovers multiple threads from all the danger her mom is involved in, putting herself in danger too. The closer she gets to finding her mom, the closer she gets to being a victim.

I really enjoyed this story and found it hard to put it down. Very suspenseful, very well-crafted characters, and an intense plot! Definitely a must-read.

I really liked this book! I liked the dynamic between the mother and the daughter and how it revisited the mothers past. The husband part of it through me for a loop a little bit in the aspect I didnt really understand what he was doing but overall a good read! 4 stars :)

Thank you for the advanced reader Netgalley!

Another great book by Kimberly McCreight! This book highlights the complex relationship between a mother and daughter with a gripping story line.

Kat, the mother, is missing when Cleo, the daughter, comes to dinner as requested. Not only is she missing but cleo finds a bloody shoe and a broken glass and knows something terrible has happened. Cleo then goes a bit rouge to find out what happened to her mom. As the story develops, Cleo learns a lot about her mom and sees that not everything is as she thought. Her mom has a much more troubled past and her current job isn't as simple as it appeared.

This is a great book with a lot of gripping details about how the past can shape who a person in today and NEVER judge a book by its cover. It also dives into the dynamic relationship between a. mother and daughter and how to learn to see beyond what is in front of you.

I will be looking out for more books by this author as she grips you from the start and keeps you wanting to read until the very end.

Thank you NetGally and Knopf publishing for the ARC copy in return for an honest review.

Like Mother Like Daughter by Kimberly Mccreight.

Cleo and her mother Katrina have a strained relationship. When Katrina goes missing, Cleo will stop at nothing to find where her mother is. Unbeknownst to Cleo, her mother has also gone above and beyond to protect her from her drug dealing boyfriend.

Cleo begins to uncover her mother’s past and soon everyone is a suspect Katrina’s disappearance.

Wow! This was an incredible read. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, you’re hit with another plot twist. I enjoyed this book greatly

This book was phenomenal!! A complex domestic thriller that has multiple storylines and different POVs, with the author masterfully tying it all together. On one end, we are exploring the fragile relationship between mother and daughter, and on the other end diving deep into a missing person’s case. The writing style was fantastic, tempo was just enough to keep you interested and the ending was *chef’s kiss.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC, all opinions are my own

I felt like this book started off really strong but lost me quicker than it should have. There are way too many plot lines happening. You are getting dual POVs and timelines, diary entries, transcripts from appointments, court documents and text messages. It just became too convoluted for me. It does have some good strong parts, the mother/daughter relationship and where that starts and ends. I felt satisfied with that but there were some other things I just didn’t think seemed to fit. I can’t get too specific without giving anything away. The biggest fireworks come at the end and that was pretty disappointing. There were other explosive moments prior to that but nothing that blew my socks off. If you like a big character build and lots of different dialogues, this book is right up your alley.

I expected to be swept up in this novel like so many reviewers, but that just didn't happen. The relationships between Katrina, the disappeared one, her daughter and the husband Kat's divorcing. Then there's the guy she met online dating who Kat is interested in. Everyone's lives are messy and their relationships filled with rancor.

The crux of the story turns out to be concern over a pharmaceutical company's attempt to hide birth defects caused by one of their drugs. Daughter Cleo peels back the layers to see of this has anything to do with her mother and how this knowledge can help her find Katrina.

I didn't click with the characters and found the ending contrived and unsatisfying. Kimberly McCreight has written a number of books with lots of fans so I might try another. I'm still grateful to the publisher and NetGalley for putting this author on my radar!

Well that was a riiiiide. I knocked this book out in less than 24 hours, even doing some sneaky reading at my work desk. Don’t tell anyone.

This is the first book I’ve read from Kimberly McCreight, but definitely not the last. This is what thrillers are supposed to be, red herrings and changing your mind 5 times about what’s really going on. To keep guessing while the story twists and turns, while you’re offered little tidbits of info to inform you.

Who kidnapped Kat? And is the same person out to get her daughter, or will Cleo be the one to solve the mystery of her disappearance in the end? Her father is certainly no help (and man, I really was rooting for him to be at fault so he’d be off to jail in the end!) There are a ton of characters in this book, so the it almost could be anyone. They all have a motive or a secret to hide. I certainly didn’t expect that ending!

Thanks to Kimberly McCreight, Knopf and NetGalley for providing the advance copy!

The title, cover, and description drew me in! The characters were relatable, and realistic which was a nice change. There is a lot of different things to keep track of in this book. The plot could have been less complex as with the list of characters. The structure of the book was lovely but I think with the complexities it's definitely a read twice book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for sending me an ARC of Like Mother, Like Daughter in exchange for an honest review.

Read this book in 2 days. Really good story but it is hard to follow at first. There's lots of character development happening all at once. But once you can get them all straightened out, it becomes easier to follow the story. The story however is really good. Lots of twists and turns and kept me wanting to know what was coming next.
