Like Mother Like Daughter is about a woman, Kat, who’s gone missing before she’s supposed to meet with her estranged daughter, Cleo. Cleo’s search for what happened to her mom unearths many secrets. Dark secrets about her mom’s past, and secrets about her father that shake her strong relationship with him. Could her father be behind her mom’s disappearance, or could it have something to do with her mother’s job?

Like Mother Like Daughter is a fast paced thriller that had me hooked. I found the characters, specifically Kat and Cleo to be very well written. I enjoyed the way the story was told between alternating POVs, emails, and transcripts. And while I did enjoy the different side plots going on, it did seem to be a little too much at times. The plot line about Ben Breyer could’ve been left out. By the time he was mentioned towards the end of the book I had completely forgotten about him.
Overall it was a good quick read.

This is my first McCreight book, but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the story with all the twists. I connected with Katrina and Cloe (mother and daughter) and loved that they were strong women. The characters were well developed, I could actually feel them with me. Overall, an excellent book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for this e-ARC to enjoy and review honestly. The release date is July 9, 2024.

This book takes place over the course of just a couple of days as a mom goes missing and a semi-estranged daughter and father attempt to find her. Told from the points of view of the mom before the disappearance and the daughter after, this book intrigued me and I wanted to find out how it all turned out. A few times the switching voices and timelines confused me and the in between chapters with transcripts from therapists and courts didn’t make sense until the end. But it was overall a solid read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

As mom of a college daughter, the title of this book appealed to me. And it did not disappoint! Cleo arrives home to find dinner burning on the stove and her mom missing. Cleo begins the search for her mom. There are a lot of different possibilities and storylines which made it a bit hard to keep straight at times. But overall, this book was a “can’t put down”. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for this thrilling ARC!

I loved this thriller! It was a quick read with solid writing. I thought both of our female protagonists were strong-willed and badass and I LOVED that.

This cover pulled me in and the book did not disappoint one bit. This made me wanna read all of this author’s works. I loooved the complex relationship these women had. I could relate to certain parts of it and that made me cry. And i could not guess the twist at all.. i was soo far off. I mean what else can one want.

This is my first McCreight book, but I know it won't be my last. Katrina's story is a compelling one, and readers should buckle up for a twisty ride.

Katrina is an intriguing focal point. She's a high-powered attorney whose actual roles are a bit more secretive than her family and others know, and that, along with a fairly mysterious past in foster care, makes the cause and circumstances of her recent disappearance tough to determine. Fortunately for readers and hopefully Katrina, Cleo, Katrina's daughter, is on the case. Though the two have had a rocky relationship at best, they're apparently almost identical, and Cleo's determination to find answers overshadows whatever distaste she's had for her mom at different times.

This is very well paced, filled with reasonable (under the circumstances) possibilities that keep readers guessing, and nicely devised overall. I also really enjoyed the interjection of other materials (like therapy notes, scenes from the distant past, etc.). While I did feel like the ending fizzled a little, this is a great read, and I'm looking forward to more from this author.

Great read from beginning to end. I was rapt from the start and although I thought I had guessed the twist, boy was I wrong and I enjoy being wrong on that front. I don't think I have ever read a book by this author before but will certainly start now.

This book was a great ride and I finished in a day. One mother goes missing and one daughter tries to find her. Their relationship is very strained but as the daughter tries to find out what happened to her mom, you can start to see the mutual understanding she begins to develop for her. the story telling on different timelines was easy to follow and made for a quick read. Not too many characters to keep track of and the book was very well developed. I will be buying a physical copy when published and sharing this one with friends. SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! Thank you Netgalley for the advanced digital copy!!!

Kimberly McCreight does it again! This book is fast-paced, and it grabs your attention right from the beginning. McCreight showcases the dynamic between mothers and daughters and throws in a missing person with several twists and turns that have you wanting to read just one more chapter every time you try to put it down. Go ahead and see if you can do it! McCreight's Reconstructing Amelia was my first mixed-media book and she has been an automatic read for me ever since. I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book - thank you to NetGalley and Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group!

This author is always a win for me and this book was no exception! She did a great job weaving multiple storylines seamlessly together and it was fun watching the puzzle pieces fall into place. I didn’t see that ending coming at all! I’m looking forward to recommending this near publication and will also be suggesting it for my book club. Thanks so much for the opportunity to read!

I really enjoyed this book a lot. The characters, relationships and dialogue all felt realistic. There was enough suspicion about enough people that it created excellent tension, and I did not figure it all out. Also, some nice twists. Reading is my reward at the end of the day, after I've accomplished whatever I'm going to get done that day. You know it's a good book when I decide to read first, and attack my "to do"list later! This was the first book I'd read by this author, but it won't be my last. Of course, I may have to hire somebody to the stuff on my "to do" list!

Loved it! Very engaging right from the beginning and hard to put down. Alternating viewpoints between mother and daughter, with some old journal entries as well, and short chapters make it an easy read. Twisty but not too dark. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this page-turner about a mother and daughter, and the secrets they kept from each other. Daughter Cleo arrives at mom Katrina‘s house for dinner. But what she discovers when she arrives is no Katrina, burned food, and a bloody shoe. The story then shifts between present day and events starting eight days ago. While I thoroughly enjoyed the character development of Katrina and Cleo, I was especially drawn in by all the secondary characters. It would be a spoiler to mention them specifically. I’ve been a fan of this author for a long time, and she continues to remain on my auto-read list.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really liked this book. Mother/daughter relationships are never easy, but this story was REALLY well thought out. Chapters went back and forth between Cleo's viewpoint and Kates. Kate's story is all about the past, while all of Cleo's story is about the present - not too surprising since the book started out with Kate being missing, But what we saw is the agony Kate went through, seeing her daughter becoming more and more distant in the past, while Cleo is learning more and more about her mother and how Cleo hadn't really appreciated everything her mother did. Plus, it didn't hurt that her father showed her quite clearly what a lying jerk he actually was. So while the book is about trying to find out what happened to Kate, I found myself both regretting what had gone on in the past and hoping that Kate would be found so she and Cleo could finally be close the way they both wanted.

This is a very well written and engaging thriller that drew me in from the start!

The book centers around Kat and her daughter Cleo, who have a tense and challenging relationship. Cleo arrives back at the family home to find her mother missing and signs of struggle evident. The story unfolds from there, with Kat's perspective on what led up to her disappearance and the multiple threats she was facing, and Cleo's perspective in the hours following it as she tries to untangle the web of lies she uncovers to find the truth, and hopefully her mother.

McCreight did a good job of keeping me guessing with this one. There were a few twists I figured out ahead of time, but even they twisted again to surprise me.

If you are a thriller fan, I definitely would put this on your TBR list.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.

The characters of Kat and Cleo are strong and thoroughly developed. I did not care for Kat at all due to her treatment of her daughter, Cleo, but as the book developed I began to connect with her feeling and as Cleo's relationship with her mother gre so did my feeling for Kat.

The book was a roller coaster ride and I couldn't put it down. I was guessing and changing my mind at every turn of the page.

Thoroughly enjoyed.

Recomnend.

College student Cleo is called home by her overprotective mother, but when she gets home she discovers blood, her mom's shoe, and no mom. The more and more she digs in to find out what happened, the more she finds out her mother is not the person she thought her to be. In fact, most of what she thought of her family is not as it appears. The more she digs, the more her own life is threatened.

4/5 ⭐️ enjoyed the book :) this review is posted to my Goodreads account.
This book was a really quick read for me (3ish hours). Definitely enjoyed the plot but felt like the book jumped in some spots, like the therapy session entries. I think it would have been more interesting to put the journal entries from the mom in there for more background.
The ending was definitely NOT something I expected so hats off to the writer for pulling that one together!
