Once I was able to follow along with the characters and the timelines (which was a little complicated), Like Mother, Like Daughter turned in an interesting thriller that kept my attention throughout the story. It was clear that the story was leading up to something big and there were a few surprises and red herrings along the way. A good page-turner, but one that I probably will eventually forget about.

Both mother and daughter are keeping secrets from each other. For good reasons? Or selfish? Perhaps both as they claim it’s in each other’s best interest.
In this thriller, we follow Cleo as she races to discover the secret of her Mother, Kat’s, disappearance. The book toggles back and forth from Kat’s POV (before the accident) and Cleo’s (after the accident.) This book was a thriller that had me hooked from the first few pages. Filled with twists and turns at every page, I could not put it down.
For those who have a complex relationship with their mothers; it made me feel seen. The nuances of rotating through love and hate so freely and unexplainably. I would find myself feeling sorry for Kat and Cleo but then equally as disappointed in them and their decisions. Ultimately, it is a story about the bonds that only mothers and daughters can share. I would reccomend to anyone who loves a good thriller!

Thank you for allowing me to read this book as an ARC.
This was a great storyline to have 2 protagonists, mother and daughter, and to hear from them in alternating chapters. The build up was great and especially having the mother's story start in the past instead of the daughter's in the present. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it kept me captivated to want to know what will come next. Definitely a fast and action packed read. I was totally wrong trying to guess what happened...several times the reader will think they have figured it out 😀
I highly recommend this book! It is fast paced, captivating, original and definitely a quick read as you will not want to put it down!

Thank you to Knopf and PRH Audio for the gifted copies to review.
Kimberly McCreight is an auto read author for me and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed this thriller, it kept me guessing and when I thought I had it figured out I was not entirely correct. This was well written and well executed and the pacing was fast the whole time. I listened to this one via audio and thought it was great, I could not stop listening and got through this one in a day, and I loved every minute of it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishing Team for this Advanced Digital Readers Copy, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This was my first book by Kimberly McCreight, and I enjoyed it immensely. It's part family drama part thriller and filled with twistvand turns. I loved the exploration of this tense mother daughter relationship. Cleo must unravel her mother's secrets after she goes missing to have any hope of finding her.
The author skillfully weaves a fantastic story that kept me engaged all the way through. The characters are incredibly interesting, well developed, and overall relatable. If you're into thrillers with a suspenseful family drama, then this one should earn a spot on your tbr.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review on .

Cleo, a NYU student got more than an uncomfortable dinner with her mom when she comes home. She comes home and find her mother missing and her bloody shoe under the sofa.
I don't want to spoil the book, but I do have to say one thing, Kimberly McCreight does wonderful in navigating the first person narrative of both Cleo and her mother, Katrina. This is not an easy feat when you consider Cleo's POV begins the day of her arrival home while Katrina's POV starts eight days before her disappearance leading to the day she goes missing.
Reading both POVs helps you build your own thoughts on who is to blame and what life events are actually connected to Katrina's disappearance.
I also appreciated Kimberly's ability to write the complicated but realistic, dysfunctional mother / daughter relationship Cleo and Katrina has. As someone who has her own experience with that type of relationship, I appreciated.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor/Knopf for providing me with the digital reviewer copy of this unputdownable book in exchange for my honest opinions.

I'm excited to dive into this one!! I had it on my thrillers/mystery list on netgalley so only seemed right I requested it. Just added to my endless books to read oops
It's been a struggle to get into reading this year and really hoping to end the year strong. I LOVED Kimberly's last book and was so excited to get into this one!! Two POVs between mother and daughter, leaving you questioning what's to come. I do wish I took the time to finish in one sitting because it's most definitely possible!! plot twists throughout the entirety.

I've enjoyed the author's other books but this one i struggled with. I did not enjoy the characters and couldn't connect with the story. I ended up dnf this book.

I’ve enjoyed two other books by this author, so I was honored to read her new thriller, Like Mother, Like Daughter. Kat is burdened with an unfaithful snake of a husband and a bitter, smart-mouthed young lady for a daughter. Kat misses the earlier years when she and her daughter, Cleo, were close. Nothing she does can get through Cleo’s frozen heart. Until Kat disappears, leaving behind an empty home and a pool of blood.
Cleo immediately takes an about-face. Nothing makes you realize the errors of your ways like losing a parent and never being able to apologize. She’s determined to find out what happened, and in the process, she learns there’s so much more to her mother than she ever imagined. Also, during her dogged pursuit of the truth, she realizes she’s just like her mother.
Fast-paced, full of twists, compassionate characters, and a stealthy plot, McCreight doesn't disappoint yet again.
Thanks so much to Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor / Knopf for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. The publishing date is July 30, 2024.

initial thoughts: a big thanks to Knopf & NetGalley for an ARC of this book!
the premise of this book was very intriguing to me, and I enjoyed the two points of view and timelines.
I can’t put my finger on why, but the execution of this book just fell flat. it won’t be memorable, but I wanted to keep picking this one up every night.
overall, a decent thriller/mystery, and I seem to be in the outlier with my three star rating.

Gripping and twisty! Such a great thriller and you don’t see the ending coming! I loved the relationship they establish and the eerie setting!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my review copy!
I have previously read and enjoyed novels by Kimberly McCreight, and this may be my favorite! Relatable in some ways…definitely intriguing and hard to put down.
I definitely would recommend!

I've read a few Kimberly McCreight books in the past and so I knew what to expect (though I also know that a lot of reviewers apparently don't like McCreight's style of writing and characterization.) For me, I find her books are typically a pretty good look at different types of female relationships, usually mother/daughter relationships and how those relationships can be strained in various ways. Her characters are flawed but I feel as though her mysteries are tight.
This book took the idea of presenting us with the scene of a crime: Cleo discovers that her mom is missing. Then we start seeing flashbacks to her mom's past, followed by entries of Cleo investigating the disappearance in the "current time." I liked how everything was kind of woven together with journal entries, etc.
Personally I really liked the book and thought the mystery was overall pretty strong and compelling.

Like Mother, Like Daughter wasn't on my radar when I got it from NetGalley, but I am so glad that I found it.
Cleo is a college student with a tumultuous relationship with her mother. She comes home one night to find her mother missing. This story follows Cleo as she tries to find out what happened to her mother. One of the biggest determinants of if I will enjoy a thriller is a twist that takes me by surprise, and this book certainly did.
I'm looking forward to reading more from Kimberly McCreight.

A race against time style read that kept me interested from the first page to the last.
Told from the mother and daughter’s point of views, this alternating story deals with blackmail, a childhood in a group home, a cheating husband and all sorts of “good” stuff. Good stuff that us readers love about thrillers with tons of suspense intermingled. The plot was perfectly woven into the details with high and low points that kept the story flowing brilliantly.
Cleo shows up to her mom’s house a bit late so, when she walks into the house with dinner burning finding bloody shoes, she panics. Their relationship hasn’t been that wonderful lately. What happened and where is her Mom?
This book revealed the ugly truths of a mom and daughter combined to reveal a novel that I thoroughly enjoyed! This novel is a 4️⃣⭐️ read❗️

This what I would call a quick easy read. Definitely won't make you smarter but it will help you pass the time easily. I love the idea of a fixer, miss my Scandal days, so that added to the appeal of the book. Good pace, grabbed my interest from the beginning and held it until the very end. I would recommend to those looking for a quick modern day read.

I was blown away by this book, instantly hooked and needing to turn page after page!
Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight centers around Cleo, a college student whose life is shaken when she finds her mother, Kat, missing. Due to ongoing conflict between Cleo and her mother, she grudgingly agrees to have dinner with her mother but when she gets home, she finds troubling clues—like her mother’s bloody shoe. Despite their conflicts, Cleo becomes determined to uncover the truth about her mother’s disappearance.
As she digs deeper, Cleo realizes she knows less about her mom and dad than she thought, discovering secrets about their past and revelations of their lives now.
The suspense was immediate and kept me enthralled from beginning to end! If you've not read this one yet, you're missing out!

Thank you to Netgalley, Kimberly McCreight, and Knoft for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book pleasantly surprised me! It kept me on my toes. We have two different points of view and two different time lines. Cleo, a student at NYU, arrives home to meet with her mother Kay, whom she currently has an estranged relationship with. Kay is a well respected lawyer with a mysterious past. When Cleo walks in the home, she finds her mother’s bloody shoe and dinner burning in the kitchen.
Cleo’s point of view starts with the day her mother goes missing. Kat’s point of view is of the days prior to her going missing. Both women live complicated lives with secrets they hide from each other. This book takes you on quite the journey to character development, complicated relationships, and finding out what really happened to Kat.
Highly recommend reading this book!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. This book felt slow to me and a bit convoluted. The story was fairly easy to follow even with the dual timelines, but there wasn’t enough meat to be invested in either really. The book was ok, but would be willing to try another from this author.
