A great start to. new series. The characters are richly developed, each carrying their own burdens and secrets. It is slow paced with interconnections and twists.
Many thanks to the author and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received this from Netgalley.com.

The title completely encapsulates the overall feeling of this saga, but the will to survive is strong.

Lots of info dumps seemingly straight from history books making this an okay -- but sluggish -- read.
