What a magic reading!
I've watched the animated series when I was a young girl whose dream was to discover anything different about herself-- and even though it isn't shown in this volume, Bloom's discovery of her powers while on Earth was inspiring and so fun to watch! And it is now fun to read.
A quick, lovely, nostalgic read that still has me thinking on the useless education the Specialists receive compared to the faeries and the witches, hah.
Thanks Netgalley for providing ARC version of this comics.
I watch Winx series on Netflix so I was quite exiting to read this comics. Its funny anf easygoing with lovelly illustration. No matter that this is teenage comics I enjoed reading it.
I received an eARC from NetGallery. I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this. When I was a kid, I watched the TV show and loved it. It's cool seeing this become a graphic novel. I enjoyed reading the three stories. It was entertaining reading about them getting into trouble, then finding a way out of it. You have villains, monsters, etc. Who doesn't like those in a book? I highly recommend reading this especially to an age appropriate child. I'm 26 years old and I enjoyed this. So all ages should like reading this.
Any lover of the Winx will have a grand time reading this! It was so nostalgic reading this graphic novel for our favorite fairly girls. It's fun seeing small details that dint happen in the show. This was a fun read.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
This REALLY brought the nostalgia factor for me, as a person who grew up watching the TV-show! It is a perfect, fun and quick comic of the beginning of the tv-show and I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in friendship, found family, love, drama and magic!
I absolutely loved the Winx Club growing up and I was so excited to see the story in graphic novel form. This gives a great precursor to the plot of the series, and is fun for all ages. Anyone who loved the cartoon growing up can now share the excitement of the Winx club with younger generations. Great, colorful artwork with a fun and compelling storyline.
As someone who loved Winx Club as a child, this was such a fun, nostalgic read. This first novel follows Bloom and her fairy friends as they start school at an academy to teach them how to use their magic. While the school does play into the story, there is still a lot of action, with enemy witches attacking and cute boys entering the picture.
The art is similar to the TV show—colorful and bright, which I love. While it does jump into the story a little bit after the real start, it's easy to follow what is happening (especially with the handy character guide at the start). Overall, I think this is great for fans of the series and for those looking to get into it, especially children who love shows like Sailor Moon and are looking for a magical read about a strong female group of friends. Time to go rewatch the entire show.
This has been my favorite animation ever. I loved reading the book.
Stella is my favorite character.
I would like to thank the author for the ARC.
Going into this book, I knew I'd have a good time; growing up on Winx Club, this was an excellent nostalgia. my only real note is that sometimes the art is inconstant.
This was so cute and nostalgic! I'm surprised at how familiar this felt because I didn't expect to still remember the beginning of their adventures in Alfea. I enjoyed seeing the little episode-like shenanigans the Winx got up to.
I wish we had been provided with more backstory instead of jumping straight into the school. I feel like it would be more approachable for people who haven't watched the show.
The art could have been a little better. I feel like in some parts the characters could have looked cleaner and less messy, especially the boys.
Overall it was a fun read but I wish it added more depth to the show, instead of relying on it as a previous introduction to the universe.
I absolutely loved reading Volume 1 of the newest Winx Club graphic novel: Welcome to Magix! When I saw the cover on NetGalley I IMMEDIATELY had to request it! I was an absolute fan of the show and after reading this, I can say that I absolutely cannot wait for it's release in January 2024 and for all other upcoming volumes.
This volume includes 3 issues: "Bloom's Discovery", "Secrets of Alfea", and "The Boys from Red Fountain" and it follows Bloom (a fairy who grew up on earth) as she moves to Magix to attend Alfea, the school for fairies. There she meets other fairies who ends up being her closest friends and their adventure as the Winx Club begins.
As someone who grew up watching the Winx Club series (the Rai and 4Kids version), I did wonder how this new graphic novel will compare and contrast to the shows. The first issue was very similar to the plot of the first episode so I worried that the rest of the issues were just going to be the novelization of the show, but as I continued on to the second and third volumes, I was pretty glad to find out that while there were certain areas of commonalities, the overall storyline was different and that made me excited to keep on reading.
I'd definitely recommend the newest Winx Club graphic novel series to any and all fans of the Winx Club shows or to anyone looking for a graphic novel that's full of magic, friendship, and girl power!
(First of all, thank you NetGalley and Papercutz, for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review)
Synopsis: Join the Winx Club, a group of fairies who fight evil using their unique magical powers! In this first installment, Bloom is introduced to Fairy school in Magix, and a whole new world of superpowered girlfriends, scary monsters, and wicked witches — all the while becoming stronger herself and finding the true meaning of friendship.
Opinion: The Winx Club was a great part of my childhood. I always watched this series when I arrived home from school before doing my homework and being able to review this one brings me a lot of nostalgia. I enjoyed this reading, as I said it brought a lot of memories, and watching The Trix again was the best part of it. However, I struggled with the boy's drawings. They felt weird to me. As for the story (no spoilers here), I recommend for you to give it a chance and read it. The start of being a child again!
I remember watching Winx when I was a little girl and loving it, and I've been watching the rest of the developments with Winx Club recently with fascination. So when I saw this graphic novel, I knew I needed to read it and revisit one of my favorite childhood shows. This book did not disappoint. It's definitely geared towards a younger audience, but I felt the magic and friendship shine through the pages. Definitely a good read for any fan in the Winx Club.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc.
Cute story. Personally love the characters.
The art is adorable. I love getting to know characters. Bloom is my favorite character so far.
I got to know how the name Winx came to be.
I really need to get into them more.
I have watched a bit of the live-action show and thought it was good. It is different from this story.
The downsides are: the difficult events were solved quickly and easily. Also, Bloom is already exhibiting amazing powers when she just arrived to Alfea.
Nevertheless, excited to read more of this version!
*thank you to NetGalley for giving me access*
5 stars
Look, I'm biased. I loved Winx Club as a kid and I still do, I even still watch it now and again. So when I got the chance to read this I couldn't wait. It's basically the first few episodes in a book, everything else like the artstyle and the storyline are the same, but I loved it nonetheless.
I grew up watching the Winx Club, so I was familiar with the characters and story so I appreciate that this is coming back. However, my initial reaction is not so great. A lot is missing and if I didn't have the prior knowledge to fill in the gaps, I would have been really lost in the story. I don't see how this will hold the attention of older kids, but I can see the bright colorful panels being okay for maybe lower grades. That's keeping in mind though that some of the content may not be lower grade appropriate, though.
I also believe at some point I read this already? I'd have to look at my old Winx comics, but I believe either this is a collection of the previously released comics. The reason why I cannot rate higher than 3 stars is that I was confused by characters who were named, yet never introduced, as if the reader was expected to know who they were the entire time. It's almost as if the comics were abridged. There were also some minor mistakes, which I hope Rainbow Spa fixes before publication.
With the cancellation of the Netflix series, I hope the comic finds success as I really did love growing up with the Winx Club.
Thank you to NetGalley and Papercutz for this eARC!
A fun, colourful step into nostalgia.
I do feel that if you've never seen the show, there is a lot of context missing in this adaptation.
Thank you for allowing my daughter and me the opportunity to read and review this blast from my past on NetGalley I truly appreciate it! I let my daughter read it first to see what she thinks of it (11) she loved the easy wording and that it was a graphic novel but she didn't understand how Bloom got to alfea in the first place, so when she was done I hunted down the show so she could watch it and find out what happens. Then it was my turn to read it! I do have to agree about how that part might have been needed to originally understand how she got there if the person reading it had never seen the original show before. But the longer you read it, the quicker you forget that part and fall in love with aspects of your childhood over and over again! The images are beautiful and well thought out, the writing is flawless with no errors or mistakes like ones I read when I was younger. All in all this book is a fantastic way to bring back an incredible show who's basis was true friendship, kindness and believing and finding the magic within yourself and I really needed it and enjoyed it! So thank you from the bottom of my heart for this experience with this read and giving me a piece of my childhood back that was appropriate for all ages!
3.8/5
Ah the first part is truly a jump back in time and it felt so nostalgic.
As an avid Winx fan back in the days I have to say I could read the first chapters almost with my eyes closed and imagining the beginning all over again.
The second half of the story is totally new. And this was both a good and bad thing.
The good thing is that we can find new adventures for our favorite fairies, the "bad" could be that some adventures were too one character based and some behaviors used weren't totally true to character.
Once accepted this new way of seeing the series, what's inside this little volume is a little dream for all those people who grew up with the Winx universe.
I never read or watched something that to Winx Club related before. When I was younger I had a game for my nintendo and loved it but that was all I knew about WInx Club. It always intrigued me, but I just had never the time or chance to get more into it.
This Graphic Novel is a really good start to get into the Winx World and to learn more about the characters. It was fast to read. The outfits and colours were just like I remembered them from my game.
I liked that the book was seperated into different shorter stories/parts. It gave a good view into the world, without being too much.
After reading this, I really want to get more into the world and discover more stories of the different Fairies.
Thank you to NetGalley and Papercutz for this EARC!
