What a wild ride. The story took a turn I was not expecting. This was such a good book. Read it you will not regret it. Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for my advanced copy.
5 not what I expected stars
Ruth Mancini, you are a winner! This book was a wonderful surprise and kept my attention throughout.
Here's what you need to know – Tate Kinsella, a want-to-be actress, is arrested for murder; her story has quite a few holes, and even her lawyer isn’t sure what to make of her client.
The crime concerns a woman who has fallen from a London building’s 25th-floor terrace. Who is the woman? Did she jump, or was she pushed?
This book is told over several parts, and I was engrossed as the author fed me bits and pieces of the story. Everyone is keeping secrets, and motives are wide-ranging.
I read this one quickly, and the pacing was spot-on. This plot may sound familiar, but it’s like nothing else I’ve read. I’m so happy to read an original psychological thriller. Highly recommended if you like this genre. Adding this author to my must-read list in the future!
Good Samaritan or Good Liar?
Tate Kinsella, an actress with just one television commercial on her resume, is now a temp at a French bank. Nobody really bothers to get to know the “temps”, so with no one to talk to at the company Christmas party, she decides to step out onto the 25th floor roof top terrace for a smoke.
It’s there that she meets “Helen” who is sitting on the ledge, apparently contemplating suicide. Tate succeeds at talking her down, and the two leave together to have a drink and talk about all that is wrong in their respective lives.
But, the next day, Tate learns that a woman has fallen from that same 25th story terrace the night prior-when she is arrested for the woman’s murder.
What really happened?!
The book opens with a prologue where Tate is speaking to her lawyer, Sarah, and the story moves forward and backward in time over six parts. The TRUTH MAY BE BENT in one part, and what ACTUALLY happened is then revealed later on.
NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING is what is seems.
It’s been awhile since I have read a good PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER, and even longer since I read a great one-but this ORIGINAL gem is pretty great!

Thank You to Harper Perennial for the gifted copy provided through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to offer a candid review!
4.5 stars rounded up I have never read a Ruth Mancini book before, but after this one I will definitey be looking at her other works. This book does not disappoint.
This is one of the most twisty turny books you will read all year. Nothing is as it seems until the very last sentence. As other reviewers have said, there's not much I can say about this book without giving away the whole plot and premise. I will say that a woman falls to her death from a high building. Tate is arrested. Tate maintains that she's innocent. The writing is superb and the book pulls you in from the first page. The characters are extremely well done and they're all interesting. Just when you have a handle on what you think you know, everything changes. The plot is very unique and different.
I simply can say read this book. It's that good. Thank you o Harper Perennial and Paperbacks and Netgalley for this ARC. I greatly appreciate it and highly , oh so highly, recommend this book.
The Woman on the Ledge is a unique, twisty, can't-put-down thriller. A woman falls to her death from the rooftop of a London bank. Tate Kinsella is arrested for the murder; however, she is soon released when the police do not have enough evidence to hold her. If Tate didn't kill the woman, then who did? Better question, who is the woman? There are so many layers to this book. Just when I thought I had the entire plot figured out, another reveal would occur. The chapters are short, and they mainly alternate between Tate and the woman's POVs. The chapters also alternate between past and present. The multiple POVs and timelines all add to the overall story. The plot is very well thought out and interesting. I haven't read a book like The Woman on the Ledge, and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll be recommending this book to anyone looking for a different but interesting thriller. I'll definitely be reading more by this author.
A woman falls from the roof of a London bank.
The police arrest Tate, but she claims her innocence. She thinks her lawyer doesn't believe her.
I was hooked from the start. The way everything unfolds is a little different from most revenge type novels. A lot of secrets and motivations will surface and some shocked me.
I really enjoyed some of the surprising twists and turns. There is a bit of repetition in events though, and one major EYE ROLL! Still a good, entertaining revenge tale that is served chilled! If you like this kind of tale, add it for 2024.
I've been hoping to find a thriller I can't put down and thought this would finally be it. The premise — especially a potentially unreliable narrator — sounded so good. Unfortunately, the writing wasn't a fit for what I wanted. The reader is thrown right into the action, which I love, but from there it felt like an emphasis on telling versus showing. I'm bummed that this wasn't the right mystery for me, but I'm looking forward to reading whatever Ruth Mancini writes next.
This synopsis drew me in, and it’s also all that can be revealed without spoiling any of the story. Saying a book is “one of the most twisty-turny novels you will read this year” is a bold statement. In this case, it’s also a true statement!
Tate was at an office party when she steps outside for a smoke. She notices a woman sitting on a ledge, and since they are on the 25th floor, she tells the woman that she should get down. The woman doesn’t, and Tate soon realizes that this woman is about to commit suicide. Eventually, Tate talks her down and safely gets her home.
Then she’s arrested for her murder.
This is definitely twisty and was a lot of fun to read. Surprise after surprise fills this book, until the perfect confessional ending. Perfect for any thriller fan, this one gets my definite recommendation. Four stars!
(Thank you to Harper Perennials and Paperbacks, Ruth Mancini and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on January 4, 2024.)
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
A very twisted story of a mama wanting to protect her daughter. Maggie and Dan have a daughter who they struggle with as she is growing older. When Maggie finds messages on her daughters phone from a 48 year old male she. Vows to crush him, In talking she discovers others have issues with him, Maggie has a brain tumor with not much time left- can she succeed with her vendetta? And then she falls from the 25th floor. Was it suicide or murder? Who would want her dead? A shocking read!
This book grabbed me from the beginning--Tate, our first-person narrator, has just been arrested for murder of a woman who was pushed (or was she?) off the roof of an office building. At the scene, Tate said it was all her fault, but what did that mean?? And can Tate be trusted to tell us the truth? She spins an unlikely story that soon becomes unraveled, and the twists and turns continue from there.
Nothing is what it seems in this fast-paced thriller with an ending that I DEFINITELY did not see coming. Well-drawn characters combined with a compelling story--I can't wait to see what Ruth Mancini does next!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.
This was an interesting book with plenty of twists and turns. I read it in a single day so it kept my hooked. Ultimately I found it to be a bit convoluted and far-fetched at times, but an enjoyable enough read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!!
The Woman on the Ledge by Ruth Mancini takes us on a journey of being accused of a crime you may not have committed.
A woman falls to her death from a London bank's twenty-fifth-floor roof terrace. Tate Kinsella is arrested for the woman's murder.
Tate tells the police that she had only met the victim the previous night at her office party. The woman was threatening to jump down from the roof, but Tate was able to talk her down.
But why do the police keep picking holes in Tate's story? Even her lawyer doesn't seem to believe her. Witnesses unravel the story as we watch Tate go through this harrowing process. The Woman on the Ledge is a good, twisty read.

What a crazy tale ! When Tate is introduced to us, she is being arrested. But is she at fault? What happened to the woman on the ledge? Did she take her own life? Was she murdered? Does Tate know here?
As Tate speaks to her court appointed solicitor we are also able to read reports given by witnesses. Slowly but surely we piece together what actually happened. With Ruth Mancini behind it all, you can be sure it will be thrilling and shocking! #TheWomanontheledge #Harper #Ruthmanicini
