Alice only has one motivation: get her revenge on Fern for doing something she got away with while Alice lived with the consequences.
This domestic thriller is book 3 in the Doctor's Wife series. There was too much backstory - which I guess is amazing if you are reading this as a standalone, but very redundant if you've read the entire series. Although it can be read as a standalone, if you intend to read the series, do start with book 1, otherwise many things will be spoiled for you in this one. The story is told in 3 POVs (Fern, Alice and Tomlin). You do have to suspend disbelief on this one, because there is no way Fern could've gotten away with what she did, not only once, but many times, when she seems to have no idea what she is doing. This one never quite grabbed my attention. Also, I don't think this story had to be a trilogy, I was quite content after book 1. Book 2 was entertaining. But I had very high hopes for this one, and I have read many fantastic reviews, so don't let my review deter you from reading it, it just wasn't for me.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was such a quick and exciting read. It tied up all the loose ends from the previous two books. The last quarter of the book was so gripping and I could not wait to see how it all ended. The dual perspectives were amazing and really made the story more exciting.

This is the third book in the doctor’s wife series, which is all about revenge, cheating, deception and deceit.
I was really looking forward to seeing what would happen next with Fern as I really loved the previous 2 parts but unfortunately this one disappointed me a bit.
There was a lot of repetition of what happened in the previous books, which seems unnecessary since you're meant to have read those before. This ensures that the story starts slowly and there is very little action, of which there was a lot of in the previous parts and causes this one to fall into insignificance.
It continues to go like this throughout 60% of the storyline, after that it finally gets a bit more grip and action.
But despite the attempt to lift the story a bit it kept feeling flat and predictable.
I’m glad I was able to wrap up Fern and her revenge journey, but actually it would have been good if her story had stopped after the second book.
Thank you @netgalley & @bookouture for this ARC.
Ah, the perfect way to close out The Doctor's Wife Series - a conclusion told mainly from the POV of Alice, The Mistress.
What a great ending! I’m so glad that I was able to finish this series and get some closure on the lives of Alice, the mistress, and Fern, the widow. The ongoing story of revenge, but who really gets the last laugh?
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in return for my honest opinion.

After reading the first two books in this series, I was thrilled to get this ARC! I won’t go much into plot as there are a lot of spoilers for those that have not read the first two books. That being said, this book does a nice job of recapping what anyone missed, so you could read it as a stand alone, although I would not recommend it.
The Doctor’s Mistress is told from 3 POVs, Fern’s, Alice’s and Detective Tomlin’s. Fern is now on the run, and Alice has vowed revenge. This book, like Hurt’s others, moves very quickly and you’ll never be bored. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending, and felt like the story was wrapped up well!
This is the third book in The Doctor’s Wife series. This book gives us a lot more of Alice’s perspective and she is out for revenge against Fern. Meanwhile both Alice and Fern have new babies and life is not turning out quite how they wanted.
Daniel Hurst is a great writer and I have loved this series, but this feels like it’s come to its natural end here. Satisfying conclusion.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for the advance reader copy. This is my honest review. Publication date Dec 6, 2023
This addictive psychological thriller expertly examines the complex interplay between a wife, a mistress, and the dangerous pursuit of revenge.
Hurst skillfully builds an atmosphere of suspense and intrigue from the very beginning, pulling readers into the tangled web of the story. The well-crafted plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns, ensuring that readers will be thoroughly engaged and guessing until the final revelations.
The character development in "The Doctor's Mistress" is noteworthy, particularly in the portrayal of the mistress and Fern, the doctor's wife. The complexities of their motivations and the psychological battle between them add depth and intensity to the narrative. The mistress's determination to protect her child and expose the truth while staying one step ahead of Fern creates a gripping dynamic that propels the story forward.
The writing style is gripping and immersive, easily conveying the suspense and tension throughout the book. The pacing is well-maintained, with a perfect balance between moments of reflection and heart-pounding action. Hurst's ability to keep readers captivated and invested in the characters and their fates is a testament to the author's skill.
This is the 3rd book in “The Doctor’s Wife” series.
Daniel Hurst has continued to entertain the reader with this latest installment!
Two women, each with a baby daughter, both guilty of egregious crimes, are back again.
Fern, is the murderous wife of the doctor, and
Alice is the mistress of the same man.
In this latest episode, we find Fern, evading the police, while living an anonymous life under a new identify, and Alice, still in pursuit of Fern to get justice. Both women are struggling to raise infant daughters, likely fathered by the same man, the doctor, who is deceased.
The search for the criminal, Fern, ensues, until the unlikely ending of this story!
As is true of all Daniel Hurst’s books, this is another engaging, well written story, with insight into the emotional traumas each character has suffered.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for my honest review.
5 stars
A brilliant series with so many twists and turns, but book three ties up all the loose ends. Well done Daniel Hurst for another great read.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review - I loved it !!
This is book 3 in The Doctor's Wife. I read the first 2 to get a better idea of the characters and events that place before.
This book could probably be read as a standalone but it really was a long epilogue about what happened after book 2.
I didn't love it! I love a good epilogue and this could probably been shortened and added to book 2. It was good to read about how everyone was doing and whether Fern was going to pay for what she did but there wasn't a lot of twists. The part with Alice's friend was so random!
I would definitely read the first two then read this one if you want more info on what happens next. The ending was surprising to me. I couldn't have done what Alice did but I get why she did it at the same time.
I’ve only recently discovered Daneil’s novels and it’s like Christmas!! He has such a fluid writing style and his novels are easy to read. That being said they are well written, with good plots and characters. This one was a 3rd in a series and I really enjoyed it.
Absolutely loved the third book in the doctors wife series: fast paced, amazing back story and characters. I would highly recommend this series.
I have read and enjoyed several of Daniel’s books and this is no exception. I like his style of writing, easy to read but still as gripping. The characters are likeable and a good plot. I highly recommend this book and author. If you are new to this author try his books out, you won’t be disappointed.
The Doctor's Mistress is book 3 in The Doctor's Wife series by Daniel Hurst and it’s just as good as the first two.
It was so gripping, clever and thrilling. This book had me hooked from the first page with its gripping storyline and surprising twists.
The characters are intriguing and very entertaining. The pace flows well, the plot was addictive and the characters certainly kept you guessing.
I found this to more of domestic drama but every bit of a thrilling read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ahead of its publication date in return for my honest review.
Unfamiliar with Daniel Hurst, I came across “The Doctor's Mistress” on NetGalley and was immediately intrigued by the description. Being the third installment in the series, I promptly purchased the first two books. I highly recommend that anyone who enjoys a captivating murder mystery evolving into a tale of revenge does the same. The first book “The Doctor’s Wife” impressed me, while the second “The Doctor's Widow” was my least favorite of the three. However, “The Doctor's Mistress” brought the entire story to a satisfying conclusion.
It's challenging to provide a synopsis without revealing details from the first two books. The author's diligent research and storytelling skills kept me guessing and craving more throughout the series. I highly recommend this 5-star book and will be exploring other works by this author.
I want to express my gratitude to Bookouture, Daniel Hurst, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to delve into this ARC and share my honest review.
I enjoyed this book! The characters were well developed and the storyline was engaging. I recommend that others read this book as well, especially if they enjoy a good thriller.
Thanks to NetGalley I received a copy of this book before its release. And of course it didnt disappoint. I find Daniel Hurst's books are riveting and a page turner. And this one did not disappoint and even surprised me at the end. We follow the doctors wife, Fern and the doctors mistress, Alice and the events that bring them together and the frustration of vengence and the situation both women find themselves in.
While following one woman I really though I knew what she was going to do, but was surprised at the end....maybe there will be a Book 4....we will see. If you havent read book #1 and #2 yet, get started because this book gets released on Dec. 6.
If you have read The Doctor's Wife and The Doctor's Widow, you most definitely need to read the conclusion book The Doctor's Mistress.
A weave of lies, twists, turns and craziness makes this book just as good as the other two. As much as i dont like characters they make the story very dramatic. A good conclusion to this series.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture.

Absolutely the perfect ending to this series. I loved The Doctor’s Wife and The Doctors Widow!
Fern is on the run with her baby Cecelia after the women whom was in jail for Drew’s murder is set free. Fern and Alice’s husband murdered her husband Doctor Drew Devlin. fern has left a path of destruction.
Alice the mistress who also has a baby, Evelyn by Fern’s husband is set free. The detective who put Alice in prison is now in a relationship with her and helping her raise her baby.
Alice is suffering from depression and is out for revenge. She wants to find Fern but it won’t be easy. Fern has a new identity.
This psychological thriller is addictive and fast paced. Reading my way the rough Hurst novels. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the series, The Doctor's Wife. Here we have the doctor's mistress who is relentless in her need for revenge against the doctor's wife for her crimes. They are both in very different circumstances from the last time they saw each other. This third in the series is every bit as entertaining and twisty as the first two!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
