Second in the DI Alice Rossi series and another compelling, if gruesome, read where she has to find a murderer of young women, investigate the apparent kidnapper of a young teenager as well as coping with her new team. There also seems to be a new drug lord on the block, taking over from the supposedly reformed barons. A solid police procedural. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

The Ravenswood Murders is the second book in the Detective Alice Rossi series.

The story begins with a young girl being held captive, telling the reader that she is leaving clues as she sews. She knows she doesn't have much time left and is determined to leave enough information so the killer will be caught.

A few days later a body of a young girl is found. Det. Alice Rossi is given the case to investigate. The next day the father of a missing girl turns up at the police station to file a report. Alice is there and overhears the conversation. She offers to help locate his daughter. There are early similarities and Alice wonders if they are connected somehow.

After the autopsy is done it is determined that this is the fourth victim and no new clues at this time. The investigation leads to drug lords and runners with several possibilities, but can they be tied to the murders as well.

This was a riveting mystery. Lots of clues and suspects to choose from. The ending isn't necessarily a cliff hanger, but it does lead the reader to believe there will be another book in the series. I also appreciate the glossary at the back of the book. Since I am not from England I appreciate the ability to check how the words were being used. While I speak English, we all use different words to mean different things and the glossary helps clear things up.

In the Ravenswood Murders detective Alice Rossi investigates the murders of several woman. All have been found in a shroud made of bedsheets, although only the last woman found had been dead for a relatively short time, all the others had been buried a long time ago so the materials were almost unrecognisable.

At first it is hard to find a link between the victims, but slowly new facts come to light, especially when a friend of the last victim contacts inspector Rossi and this leads to the discovery of the names of all the victims is discovered.
It was the first book about Alice Rossi that I've read and I must say it is an easy read, with enough suspense and nice sub-plots. Some of the language was grating on my nerves, but maybe this was supposed to be a kind of slang from the Manchester area which I'm not familiar with. The ending wasn't very surprising. Anyway, I certainly recommend this book and will round the stars up to 4.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #HelenHDurrant for my ARC of #TheRavenswoodMurders in exchange for an honest review.

A huge fan of Helen H. Durrant, although I did find her last book to be a little lightweight compared to those that had gone before. This title, unfortunately fell into the same bracket and didn’t hold the same attraction or attention as her earlier ones..

I didn't read the first book in this series but i found the blurb intriguing and I followed my gut feeling.
It's well plotted and gripping crime thriller, it's quite dark at times and the serial killer's MO it's not the best if you are squimish.
That said I appreciated Alice, a clever and tough 50 yrs detective with a well matched team. They work against time as the killer could act again and there's already 4 bodies.
The story is fast paced, it never drags and I was kept guessing till the end.
I appreciated the twists and the solution.
An entertaining read that kept me on the edge
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for this eCopy to review

The Ravenswood Murders appealed to me as it is set in the Greater Manchester area, which I know quite well. Durrant crafts an intense thriller that spans from WWII to the present day as Detective Alice Ross investigates a series of murders. The pace picks up when a new girl goes missing can Ross find her before its too late?

With plenty of twists and turns and lots of red herrings this had me guessing right to the very end

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for my copy of The Ravenswood Murders by Helen H Durrant.

When a young woman is found in a shallow grave, dressed in a shroud with her teeth smashed and her hands removed it brings the total to four. DCI Alice Rossi is tasked with the case, a case with no leads until now. Something is found with the body that might give them the clue they need to solve this case.
A fast moving story with plenty of misdirection.
A good murder mystery.
This is the second book in the DCI Alice Rossi series but it works well as a standalone.

Thanks to Joffe Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange my review.

This book is a gripping thriller spanning historical events starting in World War II to the modern day. The story is a captivating mystery with plenty of twists and turns. It starts off with a chilling yet suspenseful beginning. Helen has done a great job in creating a multi-layered plot. The characters in the book are well-developed and believable.

Overall, it is an enjoyable and well-written mystery novel that I would recommend to those who are looking for a compelling thrill ride with an intriguing plot, fascinating characters, and historical insight. In short, you will be unable to put down.

A fast-paced police procedure starring Detective Alice Rossi who is searching for the killer of 4 unknown teenage girls in the Great Manchester area (UK). Then another girl goes missing...

Detective Alice Rossi is competent, hard-working but relatable. She has compassion without being a bleeding heart which wouldn't work as a homicide detective. The workings of the police department with pressure from the press and upper management not happy about her not always following procedure seem very realistic. I enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more in this series.

It also looks at the life on poor Estates where drug abuse and running is rampant and families and individuals are beaten down by the cycle of poverty. You wonder if anyone ever gets out. A sad statement about society.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

I’m starting this review slightly (very) back to front from my other reviews and I want to start off by saying what a frustratingly clever ending. I am now desperate to read the next book in this series and cannot wait for it to come out.

This is book 2 in the Detective Alice Rossi series and given I hadn’t read the first book I found it easy enough to read as a stand alone thriller however I will be going back to read the first book in this series.

Alice is investigating 4 murders, they have been friends for many years and go way back. 4 have been murdered, 1 is still walking free but with a target on her back.

With a whole heap of suspects but each and everyone coming to a dead end Alice and her team are no closer to catching their killer and as the book went on I had no idea who was behind this and how they were going to catch their killer, but they did and there was a shocking twist at the end which I loved.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review. A great book which requires a great deal of concentration as there are 2 stories running along side each other and at time I found I had to re-read a page to keep up, but over all I loved it!

🙊Revolving door of suspects: baffling but DCI Rossi will find her man!

4-4.5🌟stars
This police procedural British mystery was a good one. I particularly liked how suspicion kept flip-flopping back and forth between a number of suspects, though it never wavers from the lead detective's belief that it's centered in the local drug scene.

DCI Alice Rossi, the central protagonist who directs the police investigation into the murders of four teenage girls, is calm, nurturing of her team and a personality that I liked. The story moved at a good pace and the referrals to Rossi's and others' personal lives added some dimension but were minor; the author kept the focus on the case. It's quality writing that resulted in a good, entertaining story. I had no idea who the murderer was until the climax because the author gave so many excellent indications of guilt to go around!

I was drawn to this story because I was a fan of the first book in the series and I was not disappointed.

Thanks to Joffe Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I’d like to thank Joffe Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Ravenswood Murders’ the second in the Detective Alice Rossi series written by Helen H Durrant, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

DCI Alice Rossi is Senior Investigating Officer of the Dream Catcher cold case when the body of a young woman is found dressed in a shroud she’s been forced to stitch herself. During this investigation she becomes aware of sixteen-year-old Maggie Hewson who’s disappeared following an argument with her father Andrew. As the same people are involved in both cases Alice can’t help but think they’re connected.

In ‘The Ravenswood Murders’ it’s been good to meet up again with DCI Alice Rossi as she struggles to work through the evidence uncovered by her team, the interviews given by an array of devious characters who can’t always be trusted to tell the truth, and the twists and turns that confuse them on more than one occasion. The plot is well-written with a complex storyline of both two cases, but it’s good down-to-earth police work that finally reveals clues that leads to a breakthrough. This is a gripping police thriller that’s kept me turning pages till I reached the end and concludes with Alice being given the file of their next cold case. I can’t wait to read it!

This was an easy to read murder mystery with lots of red herrings to keep you guessing. I liked the character Detective Alice Rossi; an older female detective who has just come off a successful case. I would have liked more background information about her to fill out her persona. While the story is told with strong police procedures, I felt it lacked ambiance. I also felt the ending was rather anti-climatic.

The body of a young woman is found wrapped in a shroud. Her hands and teeth are missing and her lips are sewn shut. As shocking as this sounds, this is the fourth body to be found in similar circumstances and the police have no leads, not even the names of the women. Detective Alice Rossi is heading up a new team to try to discover what connects the victims but then a teenage girl is reported missing – is she the next victim?

I wasn’t aware that this was the second book in the series until I started reading but I did not feel as though I needed to have read the first to fully understand the plot of The Ravenswood Murders. After reading this, though, I will definitely be going back and reading the previous book, The Ash Lake Murders.

Alice Rossi is a great character who is being recognised for her previous good work by being chosen to head this extremely tricky case. While some may see this as a poisoned chalice, Alice is determined to bring the killer to justice no matter what it takes. She appears to have a very interesting backstory which I am looking forward to reading more about. Her homelife is not typical of a detective and I found this a breath of fresh air.

This is a quick read and so the plot moves at a fast pace, keeping me gripped right from the start. There is a plethora of suspicious characters and so picking out the culprit was a tricky task! I also enjoyed how we had a few storylines running at the same time and the fact that we, like Alice, tried to decide whether they were separate cases or whether they were actually connected.

This is the first of this author’s books that I have read but it won’t be the last!
