Detective Alice Rossi #2
Day 1. A young woman's body is found in a shallow grave in the woods, buried in a white shroud. She's been dead for a week. Her teeth are smashed in, her lips stitched together. She's the fourth young woman found like this.
Day 2. Sixteen-year-old Maggie Hewson is reported missing. She never came home from school, and her father is beside himself. Will she be the fifth girl to die?
I quite liked DCI Alice Rossi. This time, she is investigating the murders of four teenagers. There are plenty of suspects to choose from. We also get some sub=plots. I was quickly pulled into this story. This is a quick and easy to read murder mystery. The characters are well-developed. I'm looking forward to reading the third book in this well-written series.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #HelenHDurrant for my ARC of #TheRavenswoodMurders in exchange for an honest review.
Greater Manchester, and Needle Crag is the perfect place to hide the dead.
Joining Detective Alice Rossi for book two.
Same hallmarks same killer, as Leo Monk makes Alice the senior investigating officer on the dream catcher operation and solving this case involves days of work, she is determined to get the fiend who kills all these teenage girls with no names, the latest needs to be kept silent from the press, as could be known to the team, the Ravenwood Murderer knows this area and DC Roger Wallis and DS Jason Hawkes are brought in on this high profile murder case.
What a book that will send your mind haywire.
Gripping so gripping.
The characters Alice and Dilys are my favourites and can't wait to find out more in the next book. A brilliant superb banging book that is so unputdownable right through.
I read the first book and loved it, if I am honest I struggled to read this one, I have read every single book by this author and this was the first one I struggled with but I did finish it
I enjoyed trying to fathom out this intriguing case. I like DCI Alice Rossi because her interesting, personal life is something of a thriller lurking in the background. However here she is faced with the impossible task of finding a serial killer, whereby the bodies remain identified. Twists and turns make for a good solid read. One not to be missed.
Book 2 in another fabulous series by Helen Durrant. I don't know how she does it! In The Ravenswood Murders Alice Rossi is a DCI working out of Manchester police headquarters. She takes over an investigation into the murders of four young girls found buried locally. Wrapped in shrouds crudely hand made from locally manufactured sheets. The narrative is fast paced and has numerous twists and red herrings to keep you guessing about the main narrative. An excellent read that I didn't want to put down, the story was so compelling. Looking forward to the next Alice Rossi book. Recommended. 5*
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of The Ravenswood Murders, the second novel to feature DCI Alice Rossi of Greater Manchester Police.
A young woman’s body is found buried in the woods, the fourth to be found in recent months. Alice, based on the success of her last case, is brought in to head the investigation. She’s not enthusiastic as there is nothing to go on and the existing team isn’t keen on a female boss. She’s hardly started when she learns that another sixteen year old girl has gone missing.
I enjoyed The Ravenswood Murders, which is an absorbing read with plenty of twists and turns. It is told mostly from Alice and the investigation’s point of view with the unnamed killer making the odd contribution and when I say odd I mean odd as it hints at some kind of mental illness.
The novel has a lot going on and as the drugs business features heavily there is no end to the lying, secrets and non cooperation. It also means a raft of suspects with nothing firm enough to pin on them. I found it frustrating in parts that everything Alice has is too nebulous for a charge and that makes the investigation a bit circular with the same people hauled in with the same negative result. Still, it inches forward gradually until the killer makes a mistake and it’s game over.
I like the characters and the author has a way of holding the reader’s attention so these compensate for any frustration.
The Ravenswood Murders is a good read that I can recommend.
Small town, many secrets, eccentric rich families, drug dealers, and yes, one or more psychopaths on the loose. Alice Rossi returns in another page turning and complicated mystery that will keep you guessing to the end.
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and Joffe books and the fantastic author Helen durrant for an early copy of her book to read.
I really enjoy reading her different series,This is book two and still to read book one..Detective Alice Rossi on a murder case of women found in shallow graves no clues who they are except one...who are behind the murders..and a missing girl Maggie,Will they find her? Is the a connection, or two different storylines. Another enjoyable read her books are easy reads, well written books looking forward to reading more of her books.
This book will be reviewed on goodreads and Amazon uk.
I’m really liking DCI Alice Rossi. A smart, tough, 50 some year old, who has a good team behind her. This starts off with a bang…..4 murders of teens that have already happened, & Alice is thrust right into the investigation. This was such a fast paced crime story, I was literally flying through the pages. Excellent 2nd story in this new series. Can’t wait for next one!
I enjoyed the first book in this series, so was looking forward to this one and it didn’t disappoint. I had no idea where the story was going, so it really made you feel part of the investigation team. Alice is a great character who cares about her team as well as the victims. I look forward to reading more in this series.
The Ravenswood Murders by Helen H. Durrant is a good crime thriller that has a good twist to keep you turning the pages.
This is book 2 in the Detective Alice Rossi series. There are plenty of suspects to choose from, and the author's writing style grabs you from the beginning and keeps you invested until the satisfying ending. I like the main character and getting to know her more and the team.
I would recommend this book and look forward to reading more. Good suspense, good drama, a good storyline, and a satisfying conclusion.

I read this book in a couple of days. A brilliant story, a good variety of characters. So if you like police procedural books and this author definitely read it
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Detective Alice Rossi is called in to investigate l, when a young lady is found murdered, wrapped in a shroud. She’s the fourth victim and the team are struggling for evidence.
This was so good. I had no idea where the storyline was going. There were quite a few little sub stories throughout and many many characters. This was really effective though, as it held me guessing right up until the very end.
To add this is book 2 in the series, I haven’t read book 1 but I don’t think it was necessary. It eorhh kj Ed fine as standalone read.
The author's books are full of suspense, good plots and characters.
She pulls you into the story from the beginning with questions of why.
Once the girls disappeared, nothing, no demands or reports of missing.
Buried by a lone tree, without a name and how many others are there.
Alice Rossi was the lead on the investigation she has her own method of
how to solve. A good series that I enjoyed.
Given arc by. Net Galley and Joffe for my voluntary review
Another fabulous read which i devoured in one sitting on a particular wet day! So many characters but i managed to fix in my head who was who. I changed my mind several times and there were plenty of wow moments. A worthy five star read. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
This is a short, fast read that didn’t go where I was expecting, and that I enjoyed a lot. As the second volume in a series, it doesn’t show any of the issues common to sequels, it is never repetitive and gives you just enough background that you don’t feel like you’re missing anything. Based on the success of her previous case, Alice Rossi is brought on to lead the team investigating a series of gruesome murders. I liked the chemistry with her and the agents she brings with her, while the rest of the team is wary of her and her techniques. There is discord especially when she starts trying to find a missing teenager, who may or may not be involved in the murders. Most think it’s a separate case, but Alice doesn’t. There are also a lot of suspects, most of them horrible people, so any one of them could have done it. I enjoyed the read so much that I will be adding the first book to my TBR. Alice is interesting and likable and the plot was solid and engrossing. Good job!
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Joffe Books.
As always, I read the new Helen Durrant in one sitting. I was totally absorbed in the cleverly written work and the believability of the main players. Hoping her personal life will become more interesting as the series progresses.
Great book!! Once again Joffe books knows how to pick a great author! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! This book had it all!
