Kann writes a delightful romance centered around Lucky, an asexual Black woman who is used to going it alone, especially when it comes to the paranormal, and Maverick, a single dad who is used to being part of a team. The two love interests collide in the front entryway of Hennessee House, which is where Lucky is to remain for thirty days to figure out what exactly is going on. Surprise twist, this romance has a love triangle, which is Lucky, Maverick, and Hennessee House, which is sentient and rather lonely. Kann has been on the scene for a number of years, starting out as a YA writer before transitioning to adult romance, and I honestly was curious about what an asexual romance would look like. And, it’s lovely. Maverick is not ace, so Lucky is able to explain to him (and to the reader) what romance and love can look and be for some asexual folk. Plus, Lucky’s ESP abilities means she wears dark sunglasses. How Maverick makes accommodations for her when she meets his family is beautiful and touching. Additionally, the novel is relatively clean, and would be great for any readers who are uncomfortable with the hot and heavy stuff.

This is a really beautiful, emotionally complex romance with a big side of comedy as well as paranormal elements. It's also complex genre-wise, and it deals with a lot of intense emotional and philosophical issues. Overall, it was a book I read in bursts, as its complexity and longer length made it harder to binge. That's not remotely a knock against it, though, and I'd love to see more genre-bending romances get traditionally published. Also, as ever with Claire Kann books, there's great asexual-spectrum representation.

Lucky Hart is spending a month in a haunted house for reality television. What the producers don't know is that Lucky studied parapsychology and is a psychic who can read first impressions of people. What Lucky doesn't know is that she might find love (and friendship!) in the haunted house. What a breath of fresh air! A PoC main character in a "paranormal" romance! And she's ace, to boot! This book is going to help fil so many voids in romance literature, and is sure to be a hit with readers,

This is a delicious slow burn romance with lots of late night conversations, world class cuddling, and soul searching. As a Black woman with ESP, Lucky wants to trailblaze a career path in exploring the supernatural. She hopes to use the paranormal reality show, The Caretaker, to kickstart that career. But so far, no one has lasted more than three nights alone in Hennessee House. Can the successful and tantalizing Maverick be the key to her success?

Fast paced and charming, this is a quick read full of complex and quirky characters.

Loved the ace and neurodivergent rep in this - Lucky is a glorious nerd complete with a memory palace. Lots of self-exploration as she grapples with balancing her career aspirations with her deepening feelings for Maverick.

Read this one if you like:

Instant chemistry
Spooky amusement parks

I was initially drawn to this book by its beautiful cover, but I stayed for the story.

This is the perfect kind of low-stakes paranormal romance. I thought this book was also a coming-of-age type of story where the main character, Lucky, learns to accept and love herself too. Despite the interesting story and good writing, there was just something about this book that I couldn't connect with and I never felt fully invested in the story. But I'm sure others out there would love it.

This was a fun, cute and fast read :)

It is the perfect book for in between books and a palate cleanser between genres for me.

The setting was fun and not something we see all the time and I enjoyed it, but I also like hunted houses and such, so it was a treat for me,

The characters were likable, but for me sometimes hard to connect with.

Overall, I thought it was alright, I liked it but didn't love it.

I give it 3 stars.

Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity!

This was just what you would expect from the cover! It was soo wholesome and it also obviously had paranormal supernatural elements as well. The author did a phenomenal job at creating an atmospheric beautiful scenery and a story that keeps you at the edge of your seat with a smile on your face.

Really liked this story. There were a few moments when I felt like there was something meant to be understood that I didn't exactly get but it didn't throw me off badly enough to spoil the reading.

Also, would probably watch the show with Lucky and Shortcake. Too cute.

I’m going to be perfectly honest and say I didn’t love this one. I think I was expecting more of a ghostly paranormal rom com and this really was more about Lucky’s journey having ESP and finding love as well as self love. I did enjoy the character of Georgia and I did think the walk in the amusement park was an interesting take on spooky, but overall I was a bit confused

Sweet and wholesome with a supernatural twist!

The story is set in a (sort of) haunted house and our FMC has ESP and is trying to uncover the secrets of Hennessee House while filming the entire experience for a show. I’ve always been a supernatural girlie so I enjoyed this fun storyline a lot. There is asexual representation and themes around traumatic familial relationships.

Overall a cute, low-stakes read!

"Looking for Love in All the Haunted Places" by Claire Kann is a captivating romance novel that weaves together love, the supernatural, and the challenges of pursuing a career in parapsychology.

The protagonist, Lucky Hart, has a unique affinity for the supernatural, but her passion for parapsychology is not taken seriously by many. Estranged from her family, facing rejection from graduate school, and losing friends, Lucky's luck finally turns when she gets insider information about a troubled production company. The company's new show is plagued by a mysterious issue – every actor quits after spending three nights inside Hennessee House, a notorious Victorian mansion.

Lucky seizes the opportunity to investigate and infiltrates the show. It's there that she meets Maverick Phillips, and an instant chemistry ignites between them. Maverick challenges and supports Lucky in ways she's never experienced before, making her feel truly seen. However, their connection doesn't go unnoticed – even by the lonely, sentient Hennessee House, which becomes a challenger in their budding relationship.

As Lucky and Maverick's romance faces obstacles, including the haunted house vying for Lucky's attention, the novel explores the clash between love and career aspirations. Lucky is determined not to choose one over the other, believing that everyone deserves a happily ever after, even houses with haunted hearts. However, as her plans start to unravel, Lucky realizes that achieving everything she desires may require risking it all.

"Looking for Love in All the Haunted Places" promises an engaging blend of romance, paranormal intrigue, and the pursuit of personal and professional fulfillment. Claire Kann's storytelling is likely to draw readers into a world where love transcends the boundaries of the living and the supernatural.

It’s easy enough to read and the prose is comfortable, but I didn’t personally find it engaging. I stopped after chapter 1 (4%). I’m guessing it will be a three-star average for audiences.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.
