I thought this would be a generic story of affair- I was wrong!!
Many different layers and a really engaging story. At times felt slightly chaotic with all the different levels of story and honestly I had to skip back to remind myself who some characters were.
Will say it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy this story, it had be intrigued and kept me turning the pages
This was a really twisty “who done it” read that kept you guessing right until the end. It hooked me in from the first page, with a fast pace and short chapters. I also liked the depth of thoughts from each character - you see the storyline from multiple points of view, and the impact events in the storyline have on them. This helps to build some empathy with each one as the story unfolds. I’d recommend this for anyone who loves a twisty, psychological thriller.!
Oh my goodness! I read this book in less than 48 hours. I couldn't put it down. Suspense, everywhere you turned, you were being slapped in the face.
If your spouse had an affair, would you stand by them? What would you do to make sure it was put behind you? How far would you go?
From start to finish, this book took hold and held me tight. It really makes you think and question everyone you know.
Cara is a piece of work. If Aaron was my husband, I don't know what I'd do. Most men don't have emotional affairs, they cause the emotional affair. It was refreshing to see it happen in reverse. But mannnnnn I hated Cara.
The real question is, who is the bigger psycho out of all the characters?
This thriller centers around college professor Aaron, his affair with his colleague Cara, and his wife Paige, who finds out about the affair. When Cara goes missing, everyone looks suspicious.
Aaron was … idiotically good at ignoring red flags for the first third of the book.
The plot was good, a bit predictable with a good twist. This was a decent read! 2.5 stars from me.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
This was a long haul for me to get through, and I found myself losing interest throughout the novel. The plot was far fetched, hard to keep track of and a little all over the place. I liked the ending (last chapter) a lot, and found that there were times I was kept guessing but overall not my fave read.
I absolutely adored this story! I never had guessed the ending and I did find it exceptionally twisted, right up to and including the epilogue! 😮 this tory follows a family as a woman goes missing and the husband is blamed after they had an affair. The only reason I dropped a star and gave it 4 stars is because with the POV, it repeated occasionally but the actual storyline was amazing!! I would absolutely recommend that you read this book when it is released! 😍

I thought this was going to be a typical affair/revenge story, but it was so much more than that!
The book starts off with Cara going missing and Aaron being questioned by the police. You soon find out that Paige, Aaron's wife, was aware of the affair, so they're both suspects. You learn more about Cara's life as the story progresses, and there are a lot of fun twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
I actually really enjoyed this book, especially the epilogue. The epilogue was INSANE.
Wow what an amazing read!!! I love a psychological thriller that has me at the edge of my seat and has me guessing to the very end but nope... Definitely recommend to any psychological thriller fan to get their hands on this book.
thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this eARC
Angela Henry’s A Perfect Affair is a perfect guaranteed thriller! It was an unputdownable-paced novel that forced me to complete it within four hours without a break!
Set on a university campus, the novel follows Dr Aaron and his wife, Paige, battling the consequences of Aaron’s affair with his colleague. The ‘other’ lady disappears without a trace, and naturally, the couple come under the suspicion of the law, their peers and even the students on campus. They juggle between proving their innocence and rebuilding their relationship against the harsh rumours and public condemnation. But are they innocent?
Henry skilfully uses two creative writing styles whose juxtaposition propels the reading experience sky-high. First, she narrates the story through the voices of multiple central characters in the novel. We get to hear Aaron, Paige and even the police detective’s side of the narrative throughout the entire investigation. This brings to light their emotional upheavals and focuses on their internal conflicts and state of mind that translate into their actions. And, of course, it ignites the reader’s curiosity.
Secondly, the author jumps timelines and, like a pendulum, swings back and forth, recounting events before and after Cara Morton (the ‘other’ lady of Dr Aaron) disappeared. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger that forces you to turn the page over and continue. It starts to feel like an addiction after a certain point!
Each character is different and has a coloured motive to do away with Cara. Even Cara is painted with a troubled childhood and a singular adult life highly influenced by her upbringing. My favourite amongst the lot turned out to be Paige. Her confident stand in the face of betrayal while battling her inner turmoils is inspiring.
With extramarital affairs and their consequences for a family at the centre, Angela Henry also touches upon the themes of domestic abuse, jealousy, greed and even love.
With all these pluses, the only downside to the entire experience was the finale reveal. Too convoluted and a far-fetched explanation made it an overwhelming task to understand and accept the same.
Regardless of this (for some, it may leave a bitter aftertaste), the book quickly attains the top spot in providing the best thrills to the reader. A true page-turner!
Wow, wow, wow. What a fantastic read this is, it's got more twists and turns than a grand prix track. I can't recommend it highly enough, utterly brilliant!!!
This book kept me intrigued and interested throughout. The characters were well written and the storyline was good. There was suspense and domestic drama. But that being said- there was too much going on. There were too many storylines, too many characters, and I couldn't keep it all straight. A few less plot points and more concise story would have made it a 4 star read for me. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a great psychological thriller that was told from two different timelines that came together at the end. I loved the writing style; it kept me engaged. I was hooked from the beginning and I found the middle slowed down a bit, but it picked back up. I did not see the twists coming. I did find some things far fetched, but it was a quick and entertaining read!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Perfect Affair by Angela Henry is a hell of a gripping thriller with twists that will need to leave your jaw on the floor constantly!
You will get so many different emotions that it is complicated to explain in one sentence. I would say there is everything! Love and passion, lies and cheat, trust and betrayal, more lies and dark secrets from every side you turn. I loved it! I absolutely loved it!
Aaron Nichols had everything but he didn't know that until he lost it. Aaron thought that Cara Morton was the key to something he missed but soon he found out that that was key to the hell.
Paige Nichols wanted support but got a slap in her face. Now she must decide how she plays this game to win.
Thank you so much, NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this book!
Meet Cara Morton, the perfect mistress until she goes missing and you are the Prime suspect . I enjoyed reading this book, all the twists and turns had me reeling to get to the bottom of where ol mistress was and WHO did it.
As the title suggests, the crux of this book is an affair. The book flicks between before Cara's (affair partner) disappearance and after, and has multiple POVs. Aaron is the prime suspect after having an affair with Cara but more secrets are revealed and a few red herrings. This was a decent enough mystery however they’re wasn't much 'thrill', tension, stakes, or suspense. The characters are morally grey at best, and mostly unlikable. I found Aaron quite irritating, especially reading his POV of cheating. The reveal at the end hinged a bit too much on side characters imo, and was as over-dramatic as most other thrillers. Overall decent, but could do with a quicker pace and more tension. Thank you to netgalley for the arc.
I really enjoyed this fantastically fast paced domestic thriller.
It drew me in quickly and I had to keep reading on due to all the twists.
This is my first book by this author, but it certainly won’t be the last.
While I enjoyed this book, it definitely was not one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, the story was great and drew me in immediately. The affair trope has been done numerous times, but something felt different about this story to me but I couldn't put my finger on it. I don't feel like I ever really figured it out either. The book left me flipping back and forth quite a bit as it not only has alternating viewpoints, but changes in time as well (before and after the affair). There was a LOT going on in the book to keep straight, I feel like it was too much to keep track of. Many times throughout I wished I had been taking notes to remember how certain characters that weren't a part of the main plot fit in because they hadn't been discussed for many chapters. It was just a very confusing time for me. Had the story been more, I hate to say streamlined or simplified I feel like I would have rated it higher. I just felt confused a lot and searching previous chapters for what had happened to someone specific when the viewpoint and timeline changed. While I enjoy alternating viewpoints, I feel this was a bit challenging to keep up with. In the future I would suggest to this author to keep it more simplified for readers to keep track of not only the plot, but secondary characters throughout the novel.
I also have to touch on the mention of race that occurred throughout the book. I feel like this is a very important topic to the author, however I don't feel like it needed to be a recurring theme or concept that we kept coming back to in the book like we did. It was frequently mentioned and instead of adding to the dynamic of the book I feel like it instead took away.
All in all I would rate the book 3 stars as a solid thriller read. It kept my attention, however was confusing to follow. The ending gave me the closure I had wished for, so I cannot complain there.
Holy Moly, this book was a wild ride! When Paige finds out her husband is having an affair, they both decide their marriage is worth saving but their mistress has other ideas. Too many twists to count! This book kept me reading late into the night!
What did I just read??? It was absolutely amazing! Make sure you have your wits about you and buckle up for the ride that is 'The perfect affair'. It’s a story told through a few different character's stories - Aaron Nichols (the accused), his wife Paige, Cara (the victim) and even Detective Alonso who is trying to solve the case. There are different timelines too, both before and after Cara's disappearance. There are lots of suspicious people and I had no idea how the story would finish. It was a very satisfying ending though and I will be looking for more books by this author. Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This started as a somewhat predictable mystery...but quickly changed gears and the twisties came out! Enjoyed the characters alot and hung on for the ride as this story unfolds. New to me author but will look up her other work.
