Jeneva Rose has delivered another riveting and fast-paced thriller for us to devour! Following three estranged siblings as they uncover a secret following the death of their mother. What happened? Who's body was it? Did their parents really murder someone? One thing I love about the author is that I can never figure out whodunit in her books. She has such interesting and well-developed characters that cause you to be sucked into the story with them. It is told with multiple POVs and a dual timeline, which I think lends itself to a faster-paced read. I could easily see this being adapted for the screen. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

In "Home is Where the Bodies Are" by Jeneva Rose, I found myself immersed in a captivating tale of suspense and family secrets that unravel in unexpected ways. What truly captivated me was the author's dedication to fleshing out the characters and their complex relationships. The ending took me by surprise, yet it felt completely organic within the story's context. For mystery lovers seeking depth and genuine surprises, this novel is a definite must-read.

Jeneva Rose may be a new favorite author for me!

Home Is Where The Bodies Are is an addictive domestic thriller. This is an easily bingeable one sitting type of read. The premise of the book was really fun and engaging with the multiple POV's and the VHS tapes chapters. The characters were highly flawed, but felt realistic. The broken family dynamic was fun to watch unfold.

Where it became an issue for me is that this book is so predictable. From the moment the culprit enters it's blatantly obvious it's that person. There's no steering you in other directions, no twist, no turn, then it just ends. It left me very underwhelmed, and feeling like that's it ? I felt it had such a good potential to have an immense shock factor, but everything was so obvious, even for someone that does not read thrillers. I feel like her books don't give me that shock factor I'm looking for.

I always love Jeneva Rose’s writing and once again she nailed it with Home is Where the Bodies Are!

I flew through this book. While it is a thriller, there were so many other layers to this book. Between rocky family dynamics, a little romance, long buried family secrets, mental health and addiction rep.. this thriller truly had it all. I loved the resolution even though I did pick up on the clues along the way regarding who the murderer was. However that didn’t take away from my utter enjoyment as I read this unputdownable read! She will continue to be a must-read author for me and based on her acknowledgements (yes I did read them as she suggested), I look forward to her next twisty tale!
Thank you so much to Blackstone Publishing and to Netgalley for this #gifted ARC!

After losing their mother, three siblings struggle with their relationship as they navigate through what needs to be done.

As they do this, they uncover a disturbing video involving a dead teenage girl. This girl was a neighbor who went missing and was never found. In this video, they learn something horrible about this girl.

How do they handle this?

This is a fantastic who-done-it story that drags in family drama, sibling rivalry, parental mishaps, and murder. It shows each character’s demons as they maneuver through this mess.

The plot is well thought out, keeping the reader guessing until the end. The siblings all have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to the others, some for good reasons.

The tension is part of what makes this story what it is. I can see how their issues would’ve pushed them apart and made sorting through their mother’s affairs difficult. It seems so real as you read it. Underneath all of the pain, they do love each other.

Love ends up triggering bigger problems that come out in the end.
This is a captivating story with a twisty ending. I loved every minute of it.

💕Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.

This was a surprisingly good thriller. It was well plotted, it had a good twist, a red herring that wasn't obviously a red herring. The family dynamic was really well done. It felt like a very realistic set of estranged siblings. I definitely did not see the twist coming but when everything was laid out I could see the bits and pieces of foreshadowing. It dealt with addiction in a respectful but honest manner both from the point of view off the addict and from the people around them. I'm not typically a thriller reader but I definitely enjoyed this one!

Beth’s mother is dying and on her deathbed says something she doesn’t understand. Her siblings, Nicole and Michael, don’t make it home before she dies. Beth isn’t sure she should share her mother’s dying words. She is even less sure when she finds out her mother was keeping more secrets than she should have imagined. Who else is keeping secrets and are any of them safe?

I love Rose’s writing style and this book was a hit for me….it has every component of a good thriller. I love a good family drama with lots of secret keeping and revealing! I highly recommend this one!

This was such a great read! I would say it is more suspense and mystery than thriller. The characters are easily imaginable and the story releases just enough along the way to keep you guessing. I devoured it within 24 hours. If you are a fan of Jeneva Rose's work, this one will not let you down! I definitely recommend to anyone who loves mystery and suspense. I rate it 4.5 stars. I must say, the book cover is one of my favorite covers!

Thanks to the publishers for an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

•a dash of nostalgia

This was such a bingeable read. I’m a sucker for domestic thrillers. 3 estranged siblings are brought back together with the death of their mother. But on her deathbed, she tells Beth something that makes Beth question everything and try to get to the bottom of a decades old disappearance. This was a fun read.

Thank you @blackstonepublishing & @netgalleyfor the advanced copy. This was a page turner.

Three estranged siblings are reunited in their small hometown after their mother passes away. Beth, the oldest was her mother’s caretaker and is struggling the most. Nicole is a drug addict trying to stay clean. Michael now lives in California and makes lots of money in the tech world. While the three go through their mother’s things, they uncover secrets their parents have hidden, including clues as to why their father disappeared 7 years prior.

Told from the perspective of the three siblings and through their mother’s journal entries, Home is Where the Bodies Are is a “who did it” thriller about a complicated family.

I found the characters extremely unlikeable until the last few chapters, which is something that tends to impact my ratings. I need someone to cheer for in a book. I also found it to be a little sad and slow in the beginning, but I flew through the second half of the book. The storyline was interesting. Plus, I loved the ending for the characters I grew to like.

Unfortunately, I really didn't like this. I felt that the characters were not very well thought out, and they were so one dimensional that they were essentially caricatures. I also didn't think we needed 4 POVs, one of which were diary entries. The diary entries were written in a completely narrative form, which completely removed me from the story. I mean, who writes their diary entries like they have an audience that needs context on things like who their neighbor's kids are and how they know them? I would never write "so and so, my neighbor" in my own diary because I would just... know who my neighbor is? Overall, this was supposed to be a thriller but I found it incredibly slow and predictable.

After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm’s length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn’t been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before. While going through their parent’s belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories. However, the nostalgia is cut short when one of the VHS tapes reveals a night back in 1999 that none of them have any recollection of. On-screen, their father appears covered in blood. What follows is a dead body and a pact between their parents to get rid of it, before the video abruptly ends. Beth, Nicole, and Michael must now decide whether to leave the past in the past or uncover the dark secret their mother took to her grave.

This book would have been a one-sitting read for me if I hadn't started this one so late in the evening. It was definitely a page-turner! I couldn't wait to see how finding this terrible secret about their parents unraveled. I loved that we got the perspective of all 3 siblings and how different their personalities and thought processes were. I find it interesting how 3 people can come from the DNA and yet lead totally different experiences. I also loved seeing the past perspectives of Laura, the mom, whether it be in her chapters through the eye of the camcorder or through her letters and journals that she left her daughters. Lastly, I never saw the twist coming which can make or break a thriller. In her last thriller, the ending was a bit out there and unbelievable but this one was just twisted enough to believe it without it being wild.

Thanks to the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review. This book releases 4/30!

BOOK REVIEW- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

My Thoughts: Thank you to @blackstonepublishing, @netgalley, and @jenevaroseauthor for an advance copy of Home is Where the Bodies Are in exchange for an honest review. Queen Jeneva does it again with this suspenseful page turner. Told through multiple perspectives, we find ourselves trying to figure out who to trust and what the heck happened to Emma so many years ago. I constantly found myself “knowing” what was going on when I actually was super far off from the truth. I enjoyed how the story was told because it helped the different perspectives almost feel like puzzle pieces to the whole mystery (puzzle). The ending wrapped up the story in the perfect way and it was everything I needed it to be. As always, I can’t wait to add this one to my collection on April 30th and I look forward to reading whatever Rose comes up with next. 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 for GR!

Home is Where the Bodies are is a story by Jeneva Rose that touches upon many different topics: estranged siblings, buried secrets, and a haunting past. As the siblings sift through their parents’ belongings, they stumble upon a collection of old home videos. Innocent nostalgia quickly turns sinister when a VHS tape reveals a night from 1999—a night none of them remember. Their father, covered in blood, appears on screen, and the siblings are faced with a chilling revelation: their parents made a pact to dispose of a dead body. Throughout the story, Jeneva accomplishes what she always does: building suspense and ensuring you are wrapped in the story. The different twists had great impact and keeps you entertained until the end. Well done

A fast paced domestic thriller/murder mystery, I had a lot of fun reading this, there was lots of 90s nostalgia which I always enjoy, the plot was slightly predictable but the characters and writing style was more than enough to keep me engaged!

This was my first Jeneva Rose books and definitely won't be my last! The plot was so nostalgically creepy (finding VHS tapes from the past in the basement that included proof of murder)!! Loved the sibling dynamic - especially being able to get all 3 POVs. Definitely a fun, quick read that wasn't too scary -- despite the title of the book!

This is a tough one - angsty family drama, hints of a thriller, but an ending that wasn't so much a twist as much as leaning into familiar tropes and plot points.

Beth, Nicole, and Michael are brought back together by the death of their mother. Their lives were already a mess of pain and loss, and when they start going through their mother's house they find something even worse. The revelation that their parents were involved in the cover up of a murder of a neighbor girl, and everything that spiraled out after it that destroyed their family.

Not only to we get the insane dynamics between the siblings - full of a lot of bitterness, regret, name-calling, and wishes for ways to fix what's broken, we also get to see how everything fell apart for their mom. It's hard not to love their mom, and I wish we'd gotten to see more of her in the present. She was my favorite character.

This kept me reading for the wtf is going to happen next moments, the brutal sniping between the siblings, and then knowing how it was going to end but wanting to see how Rose was going to get us there. Overall a fun read, kind of thriller-lite, and it was a fun way for me to spend a very blizzardy evening.

First of all, this cover is perfection. I didn't even read the synopsis before requesting. As with Jeneva's previous books, this was an enjoyable read that hooked me from the beginning. I love a story told in multiple POVs and Rose pulls it off to perfection. There were parts that were a little predictable, but when you read a lot of thrillers, that's bound to happen. It was fast-paced, exciting and twisty quick read.

I almost didn’t try this one because I really didn’t enjoy the authors last book but I decided to give her another chance. I’m really glad I did because I liked this one so much more, it’s actually kind of hard for me to believe it’s the same author because my experience was so different. Anyway, this was a solid domestic suspense that follows three siblings and their dynamic was so interesting. There is tons of bickering and hostility between them that added to an already tense situation. The pacing was quick and the premise was unique, I liked the nostalgia of the family finding a dark secret on an old VHS tape. The mystery itself was decent, I kind of had a feeling about the big twist but that didn’t take me out of the story too much. Definitely a fun popcorn thriller to binge read over a weekend!
