Home is Where the Bodies Are follows three estranged siblings who gather at their childhood home following their mother's death. The siblings have followed very different paths. Beth has stayed in their small town hoping for their father to return after he disappeared nearly a decade ago. Mitchell has moved out west and achieved financial success and no longer speaks to the family, Nicole has wrestled with addiction, alienating her from everyone. When the siblings gather together for the first time in years and watch an old family video they realize that their mother was hiding a lot of secrets.

I really loved this book and thought that the writing elevated it from your standard domestic thriller. There are dueling points of view and each one has its own unique voice. The mystery has a great hook and an even better twist although I wish there had been more to the ending. It felt like it was tied up too neatly.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for my copy of this book.

This was my first Jeneva Rose read (who had previously fallen under my radar) - she is a talented storyteller and knows how to dole out the story in discrete exciting bits.

This is the story of the death of a family matriarch (after the father's disappearance), which summons three adult children to deal with the leavings of family drama and secrets. While they are going through their mother's effects, they find a family VHS recording of a summer event that suddent terminates and then starts to play an odd tableau, possibly suggesting that mother and father may have had their hand in the disappearance of a young girl in the town.

The story switches POVs between the three children (much like in a manner reminicent of Gone Girl), each narrator who is possibly unreliable for their own reasons.

On top of the thriller component, there is also some very touching family drama here. Jeneva finds the ideal balance. I do not want to quote the book here yet before its release, but there is a very touching paragraph where one of the characters likens a writer fussing over a short story that is just not working to wondering if that is how her mother felt about her. (tears)

The only reason this is not getting 5 stars is because me and my book buddy both called the arc of the story early on. The surprises were there, but I was hoping that I was wrong!

I definitely will be keeping my eye open for future Jeneva Rose items in my feeds!

This is Jeneva Rose at her best! Dark and twisty with an emotional core about family ties and grief that haunts. I highly recommend it!

I liked this book, but I really wanted to LOVE this book. It was twisty and had a lot going on- some romantic subplots, red herrings, etc. Some elements just seemed underdeveloped to me… maybe because there was so much happening? I had some questions by the end of the book that were not answered about how the events unfolded. To me, this was a good book that could have been really great if it was fleshed out a little more. I will definitely read more by this author because I like her writing style overall. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-arc.

Home Is Where The Bodies Are is going to be one of Scotts favorite books to review!
This fast-paced phycological thriller had me hooked instantly. I loved reading the POV for all the characters. It really helped me connect to them and understand them.

Three siblings coming together after the loss of their mother. While cleaning up their childhood home Beth, Nicole, and Michael decide to take a trip down memory lane and pop in one of their home videos on VHS. At the end it cuts to their father covered in blood and a body!
Slowly things start to unfold about their father's disappearance and the secret their mother kept.

"Sometimes your become a monster and sometimes the monster becomes you."

This is the five books of Jeneva Rose's I've read, and it did not disappoint. This one has now taken first place. Jeneva is a talented writer and still the queen of twists. I did not see the end coming! I STILL CANT BELIEVE IT!!!

Loved reading the acknowledgment's and leaning a little about where you grew up.

Home Is Where The Bodies Are is an unputdownable, emotionally raw, & ultimately riveting tale. Jeneva Rose is an absolute master of storytelling.

Three siblings must return to their childhood home to settle their mother's affairs when they find out their father's disappearance 7 years prior could have something to do with more missing people in the area when they discover something sinister in a home movie from the '90s.

By the end of Chapter 1, I was emotionally hooked and already shedding tears for these palpable, realistic characters. By the end of every chapter, I wondered what clue they would discover next and you find yourself ingrained in this small town, the family dynamics, the mystery, and the romance.

I read this whole book in one sitting as I simply could not wait to find out what happened next and the book was beautifully written. This was my first read by this author and I can safely say that I will purchase every single one of her titles now without needing so much as a synopsis.

This book was amazing. With thrillers I can usually guess who did it by the middle of the book. With this one, I had NO idea!

I was immediately hooked by this story! A big thank you to the author, publishers, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC.

Home is Where the Bodies Are follows three siblings (Beth, Nicole, and Michael) as they were unite after the death of their mother. Their already strained relationships get thrown into total chaos when they discover a home video of their parents burying a body.

This book provides great twists and turns, well-written alternating perspectives, and characters that I was rooting for. I thought the ending was satisfying and hard to predict, which is way too rare! The intrigue escalates throughout- I sat down on a snowy day to read just a few chapters toward the middle and ended up reading the whole second half the book. I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good mystery!

A story about family, secrets, love, addiction, and moving forward. Beth, Rachel, and Michael are back in their childhood home after their mother dies. Beth never left home and has been caring for their mother. Rachel suffers from addiction but has been working to get/stay clean. Michael is off living the life in California. The siblings are not close and all have some hatred for each other. As they begin going through their parents things secrets are uncovered.
None of the characters are super likeable, but you come to understand why they are the way they are. Told through multiple characters you get to see the story unravel from present day and past through different views. The ending did surprise me. You definitely feel for all the characters involved and realize how much one decision can have such a big impact on future actions.

I've never read anything by this author, but I've heard good things, so I was interested in reading this book. However, it was just "meh" for me. The beginning was a bit too slow, but it did pick up as the story went on. I enjoyed the multiple POV's, and I was a bit surprised with the ending. I wasn't blown away by this book, but I'd consider reading others by this author.

This book was so good! I loved the thrill of it and the ending was *chef’s kiss*. Truly did not see the twist coming!

SO… No hate to miss Jeneva Rose— I absolutely LOVE her— but this book would send Scotty into a spiral. It had about as many twists and turns as a drag strip. The plot was about as predictable as Kenny dying in an episode of South Park… I was just waiting for a twist that never came. The writing was still enjoyable and there were some nice sentiments here… however, staying up late to finish this instead of sleeping when my baby sleeps is, perhaps, my biggest regret of 2024 thus far. Maybe you will love it. I, unfortunately, did not. Thank you Net Galley for the ARC!! This comes out April 30th!

ARC READ - Home is Where the Bodies Are

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is only the second book I’ve read by Jeneva and I can confidently say I will be reading more soon. This book was so well written and completely encompassed the ideas of family, sibling relationships, dirty laundry and growing up so well.

The use of the camcorder, Laura’s chapters and the memories do such a great job of revealing and revisiting Beth,Nicole and Micheal’s childhood in a way they wouldn’t have seen it before.

I absolutely devoured this book read most of it in one day. And without giving away the ending, (which I loved) it was an excellent twist.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for this Digital ARC, all opinions are my own.

_Home is Where the Bodies Are_ by Jeneva Rose is a suspenseful mystery thriller about a family dealing with loss and a decades old crime that has come back to haunt them. Beth, Nicole, and Michael are siblings living very different lives, but are brought together by the passing of their mother. As they go through her and their missing father’s belongings, they discover a disturbing VHS tape that may prove their parents were involved with a horrific crime from their childhood. Twists keep the reader guessing as to what really happened all those years ago.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. Jeneva Rose has become one of my recent anticipated authors so I could not wait to devour this one. It started off slow with ALOT of background on the siblings and their issues, but just stay with it; I promise you! I can't say too much more without spoilers, but it is a thrill ride for sure.

Personal review : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A drug addict, rich boy, and caregiver with a grudge. This book follows Beth, Nicole, and Michael, as they process the VHS tape of their parents hiding a dead body - woah! Dual points of view between the siblings and the mom, this book was a roller coaster ride that you will never guess the ending to! This book was just as bingeable as all Jeneva Rose books with the twist at the end.

Synopsis: After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm's length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn't been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before.

While going through their parent's belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories. However, the nostalgia is cut short when one of the VHS tapes reveals a night back in 1999 that none of them have any recollection of. On screen, their father appears covered in blood. What follows is a dead body and a pact between their parents to get rid of it, before the video abruptly ends.

This book was super fun and original! Jeneva did a great job of exploring the main characters' potential conflicts and demons, and what drove them to behave the way that they did. The flashbacks to Laura's point of view provided great insight, and I enjoyed how some of them were through journal articles or the lens of a camcorder (the panning in and out was creepy and well done). These flashbacks also captured the time period (late 90's) fabulously. The overall premise was original, and though I did guess the killer before the midpoint, the book was pacey and interesting enough to propel me ahead. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a thriller to binge (I finished it in two days).

Home Is Where The Bodies Are is a standard horror novel that is more family melodrama than actual horror and overall feels like a RL Stine teen novel than an adult horror novel like it is pitched.
