Fast paced and hard to put down, Home is Where the Bodies Are literally had me trying to guess the twists the ENTIRE time. I finished it in less than 24 hours and love a book that compels you to pick it up.

A special thanks to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of Jeneva Rose's latest book to be published April 30, 2024.

This was my first foray into the world of Jeneva Rose and I was immediately hooked. Home Is Where The Bodies Are is a fast-paced thriller and murder mystery about three siblings who reunite following the death of their mother. They quickly discover their parents have kept dark secrets long buried as the events of the book unfold.

Although the story is told first-person through the lens of the siblings and their mother, I never got a sense of who these characters actually were. It was difficult to differentiate their personalities and motives outside of the chapter headers. I did enjoy the plot and the overarching murder mystery, however. This was both a quick read and a page turner!

Home is Where the Bodies Are is the newest thriller by the spectacular Jeneva Rose. It's more than a thriller, however, delving deep into family relationships, addiction, grief, and secrets. The story alternates viewpoints between the three siblings, and also includes journal and video flashbacks from the mother's point-of-view.

This was a quick, engaging read that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys domestic thrillers.

Home is Where the Bodies Are is the latest thrilling page-turner from the queen of thrillers, Jeneva Rose. I was hooked from the very first chapter, drawn into the creepy atmosphere of the dilapidated family home and the dysfunctional relationships of the estranged siblings who have returned after their mother's death. The story grabs you and doesn't let go as it alternates perspectives between the siblings, ratcheting up the tension as long-buried secrets and resentments bubble to the surface.

The discovery of the old VCR tapes hidden in the house provides a gripping twist, unraveling a dark mystery at the core of this family. Jeneva masterfully weaves together the themes of grief, addiction, and sibling rivalry and keeps me guessing until the end. When I thought I had it figured out, she would reveal another clue that threw everything into doubt again. The killer's eventual reveal was an actual gasp-out-loud moment.

Jeneva Rose has an uncanny talent for exploring the emotionally complex dynamics within families and combining that with an addictive, shocking mystery. The pacing is perfect, making this a book I couldn't stop reading at bedtime as I needed to know what happened next. If you are looking for an intensely suspenseful, character-driven thriller filled with twists, look no further than Home is Where the Bodies Are. Jeneva Rose continues to prove she is the undisputed queen of the genre. Do yourself a favor and dive in - you won't be disappointed!

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Jeneva Rose read and I loved it. I’m eager to go through her backlist because I enjoy the clever writing. Were there things I saw coming? Yes, but it didn’t deter from the excitement of the pacing and the path taken to get there.

You get a lot of estranged sibling dynamic, which I REALLY enjoyed. The death of their mother is what brings these three siblings back together, and upon going through her home, her will and her last words, we piece together a long since buried secret finally coming to the surface. Something happened years ago and some in town have never really recovered from it. Now, there is evidence of a link between this event from the past and their parents, leaving them at a loss for what to do. Could this be the reason behind their father leaving them years ago? Answers bring more questions in this twisty family drama/psychological thriller.

This book had a lot of themes and tropes I enjoy in thrillers. I liked the characters and the progression of the story so much, and was unable to put it down.

I binged this book over Christmas break and I cannot wait for you all to get your hands on it! Outside of the audio original #crimetime, this was my first Jeneva Rose book and I’m looking forward to reading more of her backlist. Full of secrets, dynamic characters, and twists I didn’t see coming, HOME IS WHERE THE BODIES ARE is sure to be an instant hit when it releases in April!
WHAT IT’S ABOUT:
Three estranged siblings are tasked with sorting their mother’s estate after she passes. Beth, the oldest, stayed in their small Wisconsin town to take care of her when she became ill. The middle child, Nicole, battles with a serious drug addiction and has only been present sporadically. Michael, the youngest, hasn’t stepped foot in their family home for seven years – since the day their father decided to walk out on them all. As they’re rummaging through their mother’s keepsakes, they come across a bin of old VHS home movies. On them, they thought they’d find birthday parties and past Christmases but what shows on screen is something none of them ever imagined. The dead body of a missing girl, their father covered in blood, and their frantic mother running through the forest. Now, instead of separating trinkets, the trio must decide if they should leave the past in the past or figure out exactly what happened that night in 1999.
WHAT I LOVED:
The 90’s nostalgia woven into the flashbacks is on point! Mood rings, baggy jeans, Nirvana t-shirts, and all the flannel transported me back to a time where I didn’t need eye cream and I loved every second of it. I thought the strained relationships between the siblings was written very well and showed exactly how strong both love and hurt can be. The ending is action packed and definitely left me surprised! I had a few theories of what was happening but didn’t quite get it right.
Definitely add this one to your lists if you’re a fan of family drama, long-buried secrets, dual timelines, and multiple points of view.
Thank you to @blackstonepublishing and @netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this book!

How far would you go to protect your family? This novel addresses that question as three estranged siblings join to settle their mother’s estate. When going through their Mom’s things, they discover a VHS tape holding a deadly secret.

Told from the alternating perspectives of all of the siblings, with flashbacks from their Mom, this story unfolds beautifully. The beginning is a poignant look at hospice care and the grief of losing a loved one and then the mystery unfolds with perfect timing and 90s nostalgia. An avid mystery reader may predict the whodunnit of it all, but the motivations and the way the story unfolded was fresh and original. This book is a must read for anyone craving a mystery read or family drama.

Siblings, Beth, Nicole, and Michael are drawn back together after the death of their mother. Slowly they begin to sift through the memories of their life. When going down memory lane, they come across a VHS home video that changes everything. The siblings must unravel the strings of their lives to find the truth behind their father being covered in blood on the home movie. What secrets did their mother take to the grave? How were their lives shaped from decisions made decades ago. Did they really know who their parents were?

Jeneva Rose put out a striking book that balances the essence of a thriller while also diving into family drama. Covering up a murder from twenty years ago, allows her to have a dual timeline as well as the three siblings points of view. I read through this in less than a day. So good. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for my copy of this book. This was a domestic thriller about three siblings, Beth, Nicole, and Michael, brought back to their small town after the death of their mother. Beth never left home, and stayed with her until the very end. Her mother had some cryptic last words, and then when the siblings are going through their mother’s things, they stumble upon a VHS that changes everything. They see a home video of their father covered in blood and that leads them down a path of family secrets.

Thoughts: I loved the premise of this book! I think the story was a great character driven plot and I thought the description of a broken family was especially well done. The characters were likable and realistic which I enjoyed. It was a pretty straightforward story about addiction, family, grief, loss, and secrets.

My problem with this book was that I knew exactly what was going to happen at around 30%. It was so transparent and obvious and that took away from the story for me. I just kept waiting to be proven right, which I was, which made me feel like I read the book for nothing. I do like her writing, but I’m not sure if these books are complicated enough to give me that gasp out loud moment. 3 stars.

Let me begin by stating, this author is a god send to the thriller genre. Told in a three POV, you are taken into family secrets that wished they had been buried and yet, knowing the author from previous reads, she will never disappoint and have the most delicious twist towards the end. Yet the clues were all there which always astounds me. Let's just say, I'll be looking through my VHS a little bit more carefully, just in case ...

This book concludes my 2023 books read and what a fabulous way to conclude the year. Huge thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for this e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: When their mother passes, three estranged siblings come together to take care of the arrangements. While sorting through old belongings, they discover a VHS tape that reveals pieces of a horrific night in 1999. With no recollection of what happened, the siblings must decide whether to leave the past in the past or uncover the dark secret their mother took to the grave.

My thoughts: So fun fact about me - Jeneva Rose is the author that first got me hooked on thrillers with her book “The Perfect Marriage.” So obviously, I was pretty excited to get this ARC. The alternating POV’s between the siblings and their mother were so well done. The writing style is incredible and if you enjoy murder mysteries that don’t hold out on suspense and twists, you’re in for a treat! Also Jeneva, I read your acknowledgments 😊 holding you to those deep dark secrets in your next book 🤪

This is a quick fun thriller that takes the reader on a journey as 3 siblings uncover their parents secrets after their mother passes away. I love there there is a VHS tape involved in this story and makes it more relateable because who's parents don't still have a VHS player?

Definitely recommend to those looking to read a thriller full of twists and turns, family secrets, and a surprising twist that reveals all.

The story of a family, Beth who has stayed in her hometown, cares for her mother who has just this minute died, her father disappeared seven years ago. She’s divorced and has an adult daughter overseas in the Navy. Her brother, Michael, a tech guru has returned home just after her mother’s death. Her sister, Nicole, is a drug addict, and she appears after her mother has died. All the siblings are estranged.

Laura, their mother, “speaks” through videos and journals her children discover as they clean out her home. Laura uttered some puzzling last words and gradually Beth, Michael and Nicole learn the truth about the night everything changed.

I like this book…it was suspenseful and it kept me interested. I didn’t love the fact that the women seemed like such messes compared to Michael for much of the book, some of that seemed to smack of male privilege to me, that wasn’t really commented upon much. Overall enjoyable. Not crazy about the title, though.

I really truly enjoy this book! I have read several books of Jeneva’s, and this is probably one of my top top two! This book kept me engaged, and also kept me hooked until the end, not knowing who the culprit was. Jeneva had a great way of adding an unexpected twist that you don’t expect! I am a HUGE fan of Jenva’s writing style and sense of humor. Can’t wait from more from this author!!!! Big fan & thank you for the opportunity to read this book ahead of the publication date - what an HONOR!!! 🥰♥️📚

First of all, love the cover. Three estranged siblings come together to bury their mother.. Beth who’s been living with her mom, her younger sister Nicole who’s a drug addict, and Michael who left years ago and became a success. Fraught with tension, they’re clearing out the house when they decide to put in a VCR tape that shows what happened to the neighbor’s young daughter who disappeared. A little slow in the beginning but once it picks up the suspense is done well, and the ending surprising. A solid read.

I love Jeneva Rose so much, but I will be honest... I struggled with this one. It was so similar to a thriller I read last year. I was able to predict everything after reading a few chapters.

Foreshadowing the entire book is a thriller killer for me. Had this not been so similar to the other book (that I won'I think I would have enjoyed it more.

I liked the fast pace. Jeneva Rose doesn't stall, and I appreciate that about her. I liked the multiple POVs and that it wasn't all from Beth's perspective.

She does it again. I love her thrillers! She sets the scene up about a difunctional family separated from distance, money, and addiction. The siblings need to find a way to be a peace with their mother’s death but family secrets bubble up and the puzzle pieces begin to fall in place. I love the surprise twists and turns in this family thriller.

This one took me awhile to get into for some reason, even though the writing itself is excellent. However, once I hit the 40% mark, I was hooked and sped through to the end. It's perfect for domestic thriller fans, especially those who know that every family has its secrets.

I really loved the premise on this one. So intriguing.

I did find it slow at parts but i still enjoyed it. I also think the author did really well with developing very different characters and really giving them a different path and distinction. Each character was well developed.

I was so mind boggled about what really happened and i wasn’t entirely sure. Even up until the reveal. I had a suspicion but i wasn’t really sure.

I really liked how it concluded as well. The tension was HIGH!!

And the little bit of romance in this… i wanted it and i liked it. I was a nice little interlude to the atmosphere. Which was thiccccc!

Definitely had some things i didn’t see coming. Very solid read.
