A quick read with enough suspense I was almost late for work! I am always delighted when I figure it out, but it was still a heady tale of family dynamics and secrets. This was a good one!
Thank you so much netgalley for the opportunity to read the arc of this book! I’ve read jenevas books in the past and enjoyed them so was excited to see I could read another one early! This book was really good. I enjoyed it, I didn’t want it to end and had a hard time putting this one down. The twist in the book actually shocked me and I did not see it coming. Who can you really trust anyways?!?
Three siblings reunite after the death of their mother. While they have grown apart, they are thrilled, defined a collection of old VHS tapes and decide to watch them, hoping to remember simpler, happier times. Instead, they uncover something ghastly. Their father appears on screen, covered in blood, and the siblings watch on in horror as their parents discuss how to get rid of a dead body. None of them have any recollection of that long ago night and they will have to decide whether to investigate further, or let this dark secret die with their mother. And you thought your family was bad?
Beth, Nicole, and Michael have all gathered at their family home in Wisconsin after the death of their mother. Their father has been gone for 7 years, after leaving a note and never returning. While cleaning out the attic, they discover a VHS tape of their parents hiding the body of their 12 year old neighbor, who disappeared in 1999. With no one to answer their questions, the three siblings have to figure out what happened, and the most important question, why? This was a divine mystery, and I ate it up in one sitting. Having also grown up in small town Wisconsin, Rose has clearly written what small town life can be like, the good and the bad. All characters are flawed, yet you're still rooting for them. Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an unbiased opinion.
SO happy for another beautifully written thriller from Jeneva Rose! ‘Home is Where The Bodies Are’ kept me on the edge of my seat from the first chapters to the very last page, a MUST read!
