I use the enneagram in many parts of my life and work and this frank, honest account of each of the numbers was a really great addition to other heady books on the enneagram

ARC READ THROUGH NETGALLEY. ALL OPINIONS ARE MY OWN. I liked this book because it had good information, but it also gave it to us in an entertaining and interesting way. I do wish that the chapters were broken up into sections because it felt like a lot of information at one time, but I still learned a lot. I also really liked how each chapter ended with some things we can do as that number to become better versions of ourselves.

I have long been a studier of the enneagram types and attributes and it has helped me understand myself and my motivations. I loved this snarky, comical take on the enneagram, the truth bombs, the funny descriptions and how best to embrace our true selves.

Author Elizabeth Orr isn't here to stroke anyone's ego or coddle personality nonsense and justification. She's made a career for herself as one of the snarkiest Enneagram folks on Instagram, with deep insights and a great sense of humor. In her new book, The Unfiltered Enneagram, Orr guides readers through the "shadow sides" of our personalities and helps focus on how to liberate oneself from excuses and study how we cope with stress or fear. Using humor, sarcasm, and a clarifying view of the 9 different Enneagram types, Orr breaks down the different personalities and how to get out from under self-justification.

For those unfamiliar with Enneagram, the book is wonderfully accessible. For those who have done some Enneagram study, Elizabeth Orr does not talk down to the reader, but does force some pretty serious self-reflection. Often laugh-out-loud funny, I found myself actually interested in Enneagram studies for the first time. Orr's sense of humor makes this book a delightful read, instead of another dense slog of an Enneagram book.

The Unfiltered Enneagram is now available.

I really enjoyed reading The Unfiltered Enneagram -my first book I’ve read on Enneagrams. Instead of focusing on the positive aspects of each type, the author dives into the darker (“shadow”) sides, which was a refreshing change. It felt like a wake-up call, encouraging readers to confront their flaws and grow from them. This book is a great reminder that we can overcome our past experiences and become who we are meant to be. A must-read for anyone looking to understand themselves better.

I love learning about the Enneagram!!!

I remember first following Elizabeth on Instagram and loving her funny (but true) Enneagram memes, and this was that times 10. I loved the realness of the Enneagram descriptions, and how she went into depth on all of them, but not in the stereotypical way.
I felt like I was seen, but not yelled at, like other books and descriptions.
I also liked that it wasn't just the typical definitions.

I learned so much from this book and look forward to sharing all of my new knowledge with my friends without them knowing it!!! I promise not to guess what their number is though...

Thank you to NetGalley and Convergent Books for this eARC <3

I think my expectations for this book were off somehow. The gist of the whole thing is essentially that you need to find another book to really understand what the enneagram means. I didn't find any new/helpful information. She even undermined the "historical" aspect of the enneagram saying it wasn't as old as everyone assumes.

On the upside, however, it was quite easy to read and snarky. I did enjoy the rhythm of her writing.

Book reviews are so important to authors and as a pre-published author myself, I would rather post reviews full of enthusiastic thoughts about the writing and such. But honesty must win out.

So if you're on the fence about this title, have a basic understanding of the enneagram under your belt from another source but then enjoy the ride! This author is hilarious.

The Unfiltered Enneagram was a funny and refreshing take on the Enneagram. I've read a few different books on it and listened to podcasts, and most of them have approached it from the traditional/Christian approach, and hadn't seen Elizabeth Orr's Instagram account. When I read the synopsis for The Unfiltered Enneagram, it sounded like a lighthearted, fun, more in-your-face take, and when I started reading the intros for each of the nine types, I just started laughing because it didn't mince words, in the best way. Orr almost does a mini roast of each number, calling them out on their BS, before going into strengths, weaknesses, core fears, motivations, and other aspects. It's backed up with legitimate, reliable, solid information though, and the sarcastic, straightforward, but kind and caring delivery helps you digest the Enneagram in a new way. It's a great book for anyone interested in the Enneagram, and will give people familiar with it a good laugh, while disarming people who are new to it and delivering the information in an accessible way.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the eARC.

How many Enneagram books are too many?! A question I will never ask. This offering of the Enneagram is engaging and easy to read and digest. I will recommend it to the many friends I have who are equally as obsessed with delving into personality theory.

if you’re a fan of @rudeassenneagram or want to be read to filth while also being helped (kind of like how really good therapy feels), this is the book for you. it had me like hahahahashutupyesthatsrealwowokaySTOPthathurtthankyou every page BUT IN THE BEST WAY, ya know? swipe for some pages about being an #enneagram1 — i can’t stop thinking about pursuing alignment over perfection. what a life-giving shift!!!

big fan of this one. (and i think many enneagram things are silly these days so that’s saying something.) it hits hard and is wholly honest and hella helpful and really good.

read it and grow.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️— amazing.

big thanks to @convergent_books of @randomhouse for sending a copy my way! #gifted

I feel brutalized as a Type four 😂 I was expecting it and yet I still felt attacked. I loved it. Doesn't sugarcoat your type at all. Completely lays out all your worst behaviors and the root beliefs and fears tied to them along with questions to ask yourself to start digging deep into yourself. It ALSO lays out your types potential from a healthy mental space and al the gifts you give the world. I liked it because it was so objective and most places to learn about your Ennegram are not like that. I can readily admit that I disagreed with my section at first because it was disagreeing with my sense of self. But as I kept reading I started feeling uncomfortable because it was real and ME in every way. That's when I realized how important and valuable this book is for everyone.

I was really impressed with this overview of the Enneagram. To be honest, I didn’t have super high hopes because it seemed like her IG was a lot of snarky memes that were more jokes than actual “touché” commentary. She addresses this in her introduction, actually.

BUT. Girl does understand the enneagram. A lot. This book goes into more detail in some areas that many other Enneagram books (I can’t say I’ve read them all but I’ve read a ton). She’s nuanced, gentle yet challenging, and all around does a great job.

Honestly, I think any enneagram enthusiast should have this on their shelf.

5 stars +++

This was incredible! I loved every bit of it- the voice, the content, the presentation. The author is incredibly gifted at choosing just the right words to convey her content. It is both funny and direct, with plenty of sass. (It reminds me of Millenneagram, which I loved, but less aggressive and with fewer f-bombs, so reading this was more enjoyable.)

Usually I struggle to finish nonfiction books because they are too easy to walk away from - there's no narrative arc to pull me from chapter to chapter. Not so here. While it's not a narrative, I was captivated by the whole thing and wanted to keep reading. I loved the presentation of all of the numbers, not just my own. I have already pre-ordered a print copy, and I'm looking forward to reading through it again.

I want to be completely honest - I didn't have high expectations going into this. Not every incredible instagrammer translates into an incredible author, but Orr does.

This felt like an extension of the lovingly-snarky posts I've come to adore on the internet. She manages to give you tough love, while making you get out of your own way and understand yourself better. I've read a lot of enneagram books, and while this information might not be that different at its core, it's presented in a way that just resonated with me more deeply.

Whether you're already a fan of Elizabeth Orr or not, if you enjoy the enneagram you will love this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book, in exchange for my honest review.

Honestly I found this a lot harder to follow than other enneagram books. The premise was interesting but something about the format was off putting, and no I don’t mean the apparent rudeness ( wasn’t rude at all imo). Unlike a lot of people I did actually read the whole book and not just the sections on my type, and the author did warn that it would be redundant, so that’s on me. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who has no knowledge of enneagram, but could be useful for someone wanting to dig a little deeper. Thank you to NetGalley for a digital copy of this book and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. This book called me both out and in, in good ways. I enjoyed the activity suggestions and I felt like the descriptions of each enneagram type were insightful, balanced, and nuanced. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the enneagram.

As a faithful student of the enneagram, this book is laid out pretty similar to most of the standard enneagram books: an introduction on "what is the enneagram" followed by an in-depth look at each type. Despite wanting to skip directly to the section on my own enneagram type, I faithfully read the intro chapters. I read the disclaimer that this was a "Comedy Central Roast on Enneagram Type." I thought I was prepared. I follow this author on Instagram. I think her memes are funny and accurate. I loved the description of the book with it's no holds barred description of each type. Unfortunately I think it missed the mark. While I was well prepared to be roasted, this is the first enneagram book that had me questioning my type. I feel like the author played up a lot of the stereotypical or extreme features of my type and missed the mark. It's funny when it's a meme. It's less funny when you are trying to learn more about your type and just end up questioning if you really are that type in the end. I admittedly did not keep reading.
